On second thought, save the postage

Seems the War in Iraq has officially ended. Troop withdrawals are underway for outlying cities. “Mission Accomplished,” Saddam Hussein has been hung, his two sons executed, half his family, friends, associates, dead.

Good job, men and women of the U.S. military!

Hussein never had WMDs, centrifuges, yellow cake, plutonium — just a big mouth who blustered.

Oh well, most of Congress, with the notable exception of Obama, voted for this mess otherwise they would be labeled a "terrorist sympathizer," anti-American or unpatriotic. Was it the result of doctored [intelligence], G.W. Bush's vengeance for the treatment of his daddy, or Dick Cheney's lust for the second largest oil field on the planet? We'll never know for sure.

Are the grateful Iraqi people worshipping Bush or Obama? No, they're launching a fireworks display and parading in the streets, celebrating that the USA is finally going home. After $1.2 trillion and 4,310 dead.

And as a going-away gift? Another four GI's were blown up.

Thanks, "Iraqi people." Now you can vote. Take care. Write.

Where were the teapartyistas when this massive waste of taxpayer money was going on?

By: bfra on 7/1/09 at 1:40

seanche - They were busy getting all the Bush/Cheney stickers off their vehicles!

Good morning.

The "War President" is what the little cowboy-Caesar want us to remember him as. However he could be known as the mouse that smashed the GOP's back.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 3:20

About yesterday:

I enjoyed BeenFranklin's post. A fresh face that knows what he is talking about.

After months of posting about health care, the chief is a no show when BeenFraklin appears.

FOX BURP

Hawaiians are celebrating in the streets when they heard the news that chief little rush would not be coming to the islands for a vaction. One islander said, "I thought that I would have to move to another island. Now I want."

By: idgaf on 7/1/09 at 4:40

The origional proposal was they would pay for the war with their oil until the dems started their war for oil crap. Once again proving they cannot be trusted for national defence/security.

Look at barry he wants to disarm us and stop weapons development.

They are our worst enemy and most effective.

Now they are in the process of taking over/ destroying the economy and turning on Israel.

By: dargent7 on 7/1/09 at 4:43

Admiral: Humback whale season doesn't start until Dec. Limpbag didn't want to be mistaken for a whale and get harpooned.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 5:11

id wants us to believe that the origional proposal was for them to pay in oil and blood. I think it has been established that is why Bush and Chaney started a war with Iraq.

Now idgaf has agreed as to the real reason for going to war.

Somewher in that twisted head of his he thinks Obama want to disarm America. He must be getting is info from Rush too. Which should not be a surprise.

Please show your evidence.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 5:15

dargent

Humback Whales are noble creatures.

Limbaugh is a parasite of the brain.

By: dargent7 on 7/1/09 at 5:23

Captain: I forgot to add a "p" in "Humpback". A "humback" was what Lewinsky gave Clinton in the Oval Office. I regret the error.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 5:42

I made the same error, but then..........lol

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 5:59

I wonder if the story of Jonan being swallowed by the whale, is really a prediction of Limbaugh opening his mouth and people falling in.

By: Kosh III on 7/1/09 at 6:05

The story Popular Edgehill eatery closes is non-existent, not even the name of the place. Of course this is not a NCP story but a NP story that we can't read or comment on. Can we please just have NCP only????

By: Kosh III on 7/1/09 at 6:08

I guess idgaf is as drugged up as his hero Limbaugh.
How can he possibly assert that the War to steal Iraqi Oil was a Democratic cause? It was Cheney/Bush all the way. Their idea, their lies, their culpability for the thousands dead.

Nemo, please don't insult the whale by comparing it to Drugbaugh.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 6:55

If I have insulted any whales or whale lover by comparing them to Limbaugh, I do apologize. However I will defend my dislike toward parasites.

By: Funditto on 7/1/09 at 7:01

Please post link about Hawaii. I need something to brighten my day.

Funditto, Tiny Bubbles.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 7:41

My first responce to this suit is to tell them to go bit me. However that is waht they would do.

By: house_of_pain on 7/1/09 at 7:51

Nemo, most of the members of the Parasites Union are lawyers.
They will suck you dry.

By: slacker on 7/1/09 at 7:56

nemo, no one wants to bit you.

By: Captain Nemo on 7/1/09 at 8:21

Lawers? Geez.

Then I am safe, slacker. lol

By: MamaG on 7/1/09 at 9:30

Slow day today? Hope you all are going to have a good holiday weekend!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/1/09 at 9:33

Have any big plans, Mama?

By: house_of_pain on 7/1/09 at 9:38

My lab is having our annual canoe trip down the Caney Fork river tomorrow.
My wife & kid are going to VA Beach for several days.
Nice, quiet weekend for me.
Grilling anything good this weekend, Blanket?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/1/09 at 9:54

house, when you said your lab, I thought you meant your dog - lol! i'm still trying to round up some grilling pigeons for my friends' annual bash.

By: slacker on 7/1/09 at 10:07

I rented a room at the downtown Hilton to watch the fireworks and hit some nightspots, no parking problem, or traffic to worry about.
Hope everybody has a great 4th.

By: gdiafante on 7/1/09 at 10:11

Is there a holiday this weekend?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/1/09 at 10:12

sounds like a good plan, slacker.

By: slacker on 7/1/09 at 10:17

gdiafante yes, a mob is gonna tar & feather a Yankee hockey fan.
In a patriotic manner of course.

By: slacker on 7/1/09 at 10:18

nazi, thanks. I'm a regular idea man, eh?

By: gdiafante on 7/1/09 at 10:19

Whew, good thing I'm not in Nashville this weekend...

By: MamaG on 7/1/09 at 10:19

I am at a loss this weekend, as to what to do. I will probably end up doing nothing. Maybe go out in the backyard and watch the neighbor's fireworks. Every year they get a little more elaborate. I'm somewhat alone this weekend, so I don't know what I'll do. Ice down some beers and just go outside maybe???

By: gdiafante on 7/1/09 at 10:20

Oh, and a FA update: Sedin twins re-sign w/Vancouver; Heatley offered trade to Edmonton but has not signed off on it yet; Ohlund reportedly has signed with Lightning...nothing on the Preds front yet, but Fids and Zanon are gone.

File under: Hey, y'all. Watch this!

By: MamaG on 7/1/09 at 10:25

House, I thought the same thing when you said your 'lab'! What a hoot!

Slacker, that really is a good plan. I have friends who used to do that for lots of different events downtown (anyone remember Summer Lights???) and it was always fun. I'm not much of a crowd person anymore and just don't think that's my thing these days!

Now, I'd love to be going to the beach this weekend!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/1/09 at 10:26

Mama, that was exactly my plan (other than my friends' party) but now my sister and her son are coming in to visit. So it looks like I'll be playing hostess.

By: slacker on 7/1/09 at 10:32

MammaG, when did we get a beach?

By: slacker on 7/1/09 at 10:33

nazi, hold my beer and watch this.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/1/09 at 10:38

Still not good.

Slacker, I didn't say WE had one, just that I wish I were going to one. I would love to go back to the Outer Banks, Carolina/Kure Beach, Hunting Island, Jekyll Island...I could just go on and on!

Blanket, the backyard is about my only choice...my son is in Japan, and my Mom isn't doing too well with her last chemo round, so I'm kinda on my own. I'll probably throw something on the grill and just drink and watch the neighbor's fireworks. More than likely, I'll be asleep by 10 pm! LOL

By: house_of_pain on 7/1/09 at 10:50

10 p.m., MamaG? That's like midnight to me.

By: MamaG on 7/1/09 at 10:52

LOL House! Me too!

By: house_of_pain on 7/1/09 at 10:54

Blanket, here's a good idea to entertain your nephew: combine the 4th with Easter.
Light the fireworks, hide them, and have him look for them. It's a real hoot.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/1/09 at 10:55

So much for efficiency in the Social Security Administration.

The SSA has always sucked. I hate, hate, hate trying to deal with them. You can never get anyone on the phone and you have to wait forever at the actual location. It's a real payne!

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/1/09 at 11:02

I wonder, if CA goes broke, will the lawmakers and the people have learned anything about fiscal responsibility? I personally think not.

11th-hour votes on state budget fail
The state Senate adjourns after the fiscal year ends without a deal that would have staved off IOUs.

MamaG,

I assume from your letter you're getting Social Security right now. Good for you! At least you're getting something back for the money you sent in.

I am also assuming that in the 15 years it'll take for me to get to where I will be filing for it, there won't be anything left and I will, in fact, get nothing for my "contributions" to Social Security.

I like that idea!
