Letters to the Editor

Don’t be afraid of Antioch

[Concerning Hickory Hollow Mall being listed among country’s most endangered malls,] I've been going to that mall since I moved here in 1989, and I've not been robbed or afraid ever.

The media can really run down a mall, can't it? And Mayor ‘Karl Marx’ Dean wants to build May Town Center and [supports] "in-town" development, but there’s no money to Antioch for anything except a pittance here and there, so what do you expect.

Check out the pictures of the "johns" that got caught in a police prostitution sting operation. Most are so ugly, I can see why they have to pay for sex. Suprised most even knew enough English to ask for it. Maybe they used sign language?

Good morning.

There is so much that can be said about this letter and the author. First off the media did not make up the story, but reported. The mall was a good place to go before 1989.

I don't recall seeing or hearing anything about the Mayor wanting to builg Maytown Center and the down town development has been in play long before Dean was elected.

If that mall is so safe, why is it that Dillards no longer sells real jewelry?
They only have the cheap, fake stuff in that particular store.
I went there several years ago to get something for my wife and was told it was
"too risky" to stock real gems at that location.

Worth repeating?
Sorry about that.

d'pain: At this hour and it's a Friday, I need to read your material twice anyway. Thanks for the assistance.

Verbal Cartoon

Deep within his underground Egg-Shape Office, Dick Chaney plots to steal another election. Chaney's sneer is even more pronounced has his plans to build a time machine and to go back to 1957. Before Hawiia becomes a State and stages an attack by the natives on Pear Harbor. His hopes are that the mainland denizens will fear the savages and not let the islands become a State.

Lets start a trend on Friday morning.

We went to Hickory Hollow Mall when the A/C went out. It's a dump...well what was still there. Most of the stores that were open had huge stains on the carpet and smelled of mold. There was a guard that probably remembers Teddy Roosevelt patrolling the mall, but he generally turned and walked away from any young man with droopy pants.

I remember when that mall was new, it was nice. It's a pit now. Shame.

Good for you Sidney, defending the honor of Hickory Hollow Mall. I've heard the same snide remarks about Tijuana Mexico. Stand tall and be proud. Being on the endangered species list, means they can't build a dam out there. Maybe you guy's will finally get that Bull fighting arena. Soldier on, and keep the animals indoors.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 6:49

Sid seems a little confused, she generally posts here about the evils of Socialism yet seems to be put out that the city doesn't throw more taxpayer money in Antioch...I thought the market decided these things...apparently it thinks the mall should go the way of the Dodo...

By: house_of_pain on 7/17/09 at 7:03

gd, you're missing 'Nashville Jumps' again.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:10

Yeah, I know...sigh...

By: pandabear on 7/17/09 at 7:12

The bad guys will take over, where ever and whenever they
can. That's just the way they see things. The only response
they understand is force.

I know.
Let's take all the guns from the good guys
and give them all to the bad guys. That way they'll leave us
alone, right ? That's what I hear from a lot of people who
like living with their heads in the sand. Problem is, the bad
guy just won't go away. He thinks it's an invitation.

Anyone read the Time Machine ?
Underground people ruling the "above ground" people ?
Think it's all fiction ?

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:14

More of the imaginary "they're coming to take my guns" bs?

By: slacker on 7/17/09 at 7:20

Bear, I thought I had moles, do you mean they are actually people? Do they breath with straws?

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:21

Tiny little oxygen tanks under their fur, slacker.

By: slacker on 7/17/09 at 7:23

Gee, I better dig one up and apologize for all that Juicy Fruit gum, I've been bombarding them with.

Lets start a trend on Friday morning.

Let's not.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:25

Does that work slacker? I've heard that and Ex-lax...

By: slacker on 7/17/09 at 7:26

gdiafante, their breath smells better.

By: CAH on 7/17/09 at 7:27

D7, those 'Johns' probably had to go to the hookers because the event they usually find their women at was canceled due to the economy. The family reunion.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/17/09 at 7:28

How ironic. The CBO did this now because Pelosi requested them to.

And Dodd refuses to believe what the CBO says...so of course they will soldier on, the advise of the CBO be d@mned.

CBO Chief: Health Bills To Increase Federal Costs
http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=5&docID=news-000003168293

“The only thing CBO does is tell you how much taxpayer money has to be invested to achieve those results,” Dodd said.

“We believe we have crafted legislation that does bend that curve, bring health care costs down and make it affordable for all Americans,” he said. “I appreciate their work, but frankly we’re on the right track, we have a solid bill and one that’s affordable.”

By: pandabear on 7/17/09 at 7:28

I know, it feels all comfortable when you're in the
"it can't happen to me" mode. Guys, I hope this reality doesn't
happen to you, but if it does, you'll have a sudden realization of
how unprepared you are.

Also, if you have families, it's unfortunate that they might have to
pay the price for your "heads in the sand" metalities.

By: slacker on 7/17/09 at 7:30

gdiafante, my dog gets after them, but he makes a bigger mess than the moles. I think you can only control them if you have a small yard.

By: Dragon on 7/17/09 at 7:34

Can anyone here point to items in the different bills that will actually decrease the cost of providing healthcare? Just because the government will pay doctors and hospitals less does not mean the cost of providing services decreases.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:37

An the flip side, it must be hell, always paranoid and wondering if you're going to have to draw on someone at Kroger...because crime is so rampant in the meat isle...it's ridiculous...

I know I've been thinking of carrying at the movie theater, because you know those criminals love them some movies...

By: Captain Nemo on 7/17/09 at 7:38

New Burp

CAH was seen looking for Sid at Hickory Hollow Mall. More details at 10.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:38

Dragon, you're on the wrong message board. This is the NCP, not the official message thread of Congress. Go ask them.

By: dargent7 on 7/17/09 at 7:43

CAH: Looking at these guy's mugs, there should be an exemption in state law that when you are that homely, asking an undercover cop for oral sex is encouraged. Speaking English is optional.

By: slacker on 7/17/09 at 7:44

I think people that talk during a movie in a theater, should be shot. Gut shot if its on a cell phone.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:47

When we went to Transformers, some guy brought in a baby. Missed a lot of the academy award winning dialogue because of that kid.

The police should leave the ''johns'' along, and concentrate on finding Michael Jackson's killer.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/17/09 at 7:49

house, you got to listen to some of Nashville Jumps this morning? Did you get to hear Cab Calloway?

8~)

so, now they're printing Sid's LTE? Sheesh.

By: gdiafante on 7/17/09 at 7:49
Sid seems a little confused, she generally posts here about the evils of Socialism yet seems to be put out that the city doesn't throw more taxpayer money in Antioch...I thought the market decided these things...apparently it thinks the mall should go the way of the Dodo...

yeah, socialism when it's convenient and not "benefiting" any of those welfare folks.

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/17/09 at 7:49

Gdia,

If you have moles, try putting mothballs in their holes and then covering them up. I tried that and it drove all the moles away...they couldn't stand the stench.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 7/17/09 at 7:49

Michael Jackson is dead? Seriously?

By: chiefpayne568 on 7/17/09 at 7:49

Dragon,

"Can anyone here point to items in the different bills that will actually decrease the cost of providing healthcare? Just because the government will pay doctors and hospitals less does not mean the cost of providing services decreases."

No because I haven't found any that actually decrease the cost. Still, we can continue to look.

By: slacker on 7/17/09 at 7:54

I gave up and stopped going to movie theaters, people have no sense of courtesy anymore. Same thing in restaurants, a screaming kid ruining your meal.

So, the Congress and the President will increase healthcare costs, increase taxes, increase the deficit and debt. According to Joe Biden, that is cause for more spending so the government won't go bankrupt.

More importantly, how do I get rid of aphids on the rose bushes?

I can understand spending money to make money on a good investment plan, on that is tried and true. But to gamble on something untried during a time when bankruptcy looms is foolhardy.

You don't have to tell me slacker. I have a three year old and a one year old. For the most part they behave themselves in public, but it's a fine line. If either starts anything, they go outside until they calm down.

LOL

By: Dragon on 7/17/09 at 8:07

Chief, the answer is, you don't. The DOL says you have to pay 1.5 times for overtime but the congress says the "rich" should be penalized.

Earning money is evil. The government taking your money is good. Depending on government welfare is noble.

By: house_of_pain on 7/17/09 at 8:09

Slacker

"chief, thanks, I will try that. But don't the moths suffer when you pull their little balls off?"

It's no worse than gelding a horse. Besides, there will be less of them around to bother you at night.
