Health care reform can heal us
Tennessee’s working families don’t need anyone telling them our health care system isn’t working for them. And we don’t like talking heads, who have big pharma and health insurance company CEOs on their speed dial, trying to use scare tactics to make use believe health care reform won’t be good for us.
Just look at some of the highlights of reform, and ask yourself: Why would anyone be against it?
American health care reform will guarantee quality, affordable health insurance to every American by giving us choices of plans.
If you like your doctor and health insurance plan, nothing changes. If you don’t like what you have, or have nothing, you can shop from a menu of private and public health insurance plans.
Say good-bye to cherry picking and bait and switch. Health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny coverage and must tell consumers up front what their out of pocket expenses will be.
Small businesses would receive subsidies to help them provide medical benefits to their workers. This is a very big deal because about 26 million Americans work for small businesses.
Health insurance companies will have to show you the money! That is, they will have to show that 85 percent of the premiums they collect are used for medical care, as opposed to 60 or less they spend now (with the rest going toward marketing and administrative costs).
Health care reform is an investment in our future that will lead to cost savings over the long run. The truth is that we can no longer afford to do keep our heads in the sand. We need national health are reform this year!

Oh please thinking the goverment can do anything right.
Think Fannie and Freddie and listen to barry when he talks of rationing care to the elderly.
It is not logical that you can reduce costs while adding 40 MILLION to the coverage includeing illegals and people makeing what could be considered big bucks by the average worker who will have to pick up the tab.
Barry (and the dems) should be honest and just put it on the ballot whether we want to be a socialist country or not.
America can find the money for a defense budget in 2010 to be $530. billion + a supplement for the two wars at $130. billion....a YEAR.
We can find $800. billion + stimulus money for automotive, banks, insurance companies.
But, when it comes to Universal Health Care, no money?
id said: "Oh please thinking the goverment can do anything right."
Yeah, we've sure see how screwed up the govt is when it comes to the War to Liberate Iraqi Oil. Maybe we should abolish the Dept of Defense? How about it id?
The truth is that government can do something better and more efficiently. Fire, Police, Utilities are just some instances.
Support our elected President and support universal health care for all citizens.

Verbal Cartton

Standing at the enterance of the cave Stone-head id'Rock-o screams at the former cave dwellers, "When will you fools learn. The sky will fall on your heads!"
Three day later he joined them at the new village site, after the ceiling of the cave fell in.
Kosh III,
"The truth is that government can do something better and more efficiently. Fire, Police, Utilities are just some instances. "
So...the government CAN do fire, police, and utilities better and more efficiently...but fighting a war isn't among them? I suspect you'd get a lot of arguments from active duty soldiers.
But ok...let's forgo the military for a moment. How about Medicare, Social Security, our own deficit...do they look like they are efficiently run too?
Jennifer said "Health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny coverage and must tell consumers up front what their out of pocket expenses will be." Yeah Jennifer I am going to be so happy that a lacky government worker sitting in a cubicle, texting their friends and eating donuts will be directing my health care. That makes me so confident. By the way, have you seen the government's housing projects and the way the government runs them? Aren't you just chomping at the bit to move into one of them? No, Jennifer, "Health care reform is an investment in our future that will lead to cost savings over the long run" is incorrect. Health care reform is O-man's way of weeding out people. I hope you and people who support him are the first to go. I, for one, don't want government interference in my decisions with my doctor. O-man wants to rule the world and he wants to start in America in our business. Crap, he can't even stop smoking, and he sneaks and smokes. Wonder what else he's sneaking and doing? He's a dishonest man.
Jennifer, Jennifer... What are you thinking?
- The CBO has said, after analyzing the health care proposal, that the costs will go up and the quality of care will go down if this plan is enacted.
- "Small businesses would receive subsidies..." You're right, that's a part of the plan. Would you like to tell me from where these subsidies will come? That's right, from you and me, our tax dollars. Still more taxes to pay.
- "If you don’t like what you have, or have nothing, you can shop from a menu of private and public health insurance plans." But of course you can. Do you have any idea which plan most will pick? Do you think it will be a private plan at $$$ or the publicly subsidized plan at $$? Guess what, you've just run all the private insurance companies out of business. When that happens, there will only be one plan on the menu which just became "price fixe".
- If you want to see what we'll all be getting with the O'bama plan, go visit a local VA hospital, talk to the patients, look at the facilities. The VA is a government run health care organization offering rationed, mediocre care. Or, go to Canada where the waiting time to see a OB/GYN is longer than the gestation period and where, if you're a 60+ year old person with lung cancer, they send you home with enough narcotics to keep you pain free until you die. Sure, that's certainly what I want for my healthcare plan... not!
- Use your head, when the snake oil salesman says he can cover 40 million additional people for less money, do you really, deep down believe it? I hope not. If you do, I have some swamp land I'd like you to invest in.
The cop says he did nothing wrong. Obama says he "he didn't know what role race played in the incident but added that police in suburban Boston "acted stupidly" in arresting Gates even after he offered proof that he was in his own home."
Cop who arrested Gates not sorry
Officer who arrested Gates won't apologize

NOW look at the police report:
Police report on Gates incident
http://www.amnation.com/vfr/Police%20report%20on%20Gates%20arrest.PDF
Looks to me like Gates was trying to push things, at least according to the report. My money is on the matter being dropped because the officer has quite a bit of information in the arrest report to include witnesses! What amazes me is that Obama didn't know all the facts but immediately said the officer was stupid for what he did. Sort of jumped the gun there, didn't he?
Oh and I was amused by the Globe removing the arrest report from their site. Sort of tells you they want to milk this non-story for as long as they can.
ChiefSittingBull: At $700. billion a year, ANY country can fight immoral, illegal, b.s. wars. It takes NO brains or skill. Just lying politicians and gullible youth who want a free ride, full medical, and the misplaced backing of a Nation called, "Patriotism".
No questions asked.
I can't think of a single thing the government can do more efficiently than private industry. If they could, why do we have volunteer fire departments, private security forces, etc. Of course, neither fire protection nor police protection is a Federal program. The higher up the government chain something is run, the more inefficient it becomes.
Citizen, do you think we have any problems with healthcare in America?
I have a question chief regarding the Gates arrest. Was the caller who reported the purported break in black or white? Wouldn't that be the profiler? The police have the right to ask for your identification even if you are in your own home and they've been called there. And of course, O-man said the officer was stupid. O-man is stupid so he identifies that with everyone else who happens to be different from him. I screamed during his entire joke of a speech last night. He never gave one straight answer. He made me sick. If he makes me sick, do I get free state of the art health care now?
Wow, talk about censorship!
So, since the Democrats don't like the flow chart Rep. Brady (R-Texas) and Republican staff of the Joint Economic Committee created. I didn't know the majority can stop mailing of information from legislators to their constituents.
So much for our right to know and a tranparent government.

Sid,
As far as I can find, she was a 40 YO white woman who saw two young black men with backpacks trying to break into the house.
What's really amazing is that when Gates was arrested and Officer Crowley asked Gates if he wanted to give the key to his house to another officer so it could be secured (Gates had left his door wide open), Gates responded by saying that it wouldn't lock because the door lock had been broken.
Now, IF the woman saw two guys trying to break in, and NOW the door lock is busted, it would stand to reason that SOMEONE either tried or succeeded in breaking into Gates' home. If that is so, then one must wonder why Gates was so angry at the cops...one would think he'd have been happy to see them respond so quickly - as I think Crowley got there within 10 minutes of the call.

Blanketnazi2: None that the government can solve by taking over the healthcare and health insurance industries.
Is our system perfect, of course not. Is it the best in the world? Yes, by a long shot. And, it's best precisely because it's a privately run system with the exception of the VA. A gov't run system takes all the incentive out of creating new medical technologies, drugs, procedures, etc. How many innovations can you name from any gov't run entity? Even those that appear to come from gov't can usually be traced back to some private firm that bid on a gov't Request For Service and came up with a great solution.

Now we know what the ARROGANT Ms. sidney does or did for a liveing. She is goverment waste.
I have seen the new goverment houseing. It is light years from what it use to be, but then sid is still in the Dark Ages.
Then former party-girl sid goes on to spew......"Health care reform is O-man's way of weeding out people. I hope you and people who support him are the first to go."
If this is Obama's plan I would think if I was sidney and people who hate Obama that I would be worried that they would be the first to go. But then again I am giving sid to much credit for being smart.
sidney, I agree with you on the gates arrest. Obama should have talked around the question for 10 min., like he does everything else. But the teleprompter said the police were stupid, so he blurted it out. Bad move, there were witnesses. I'm betting the guy was half in the bag and just shot off his mouth. Of course if I'm wrong, I will gladly apologize to the Obamamania battalions.

dargent,
Well Crap, dargent! You mean all you need is "$700. billion a year" and "ANY country can fight immoral, illegal, b.s. wars. It takes NO brains or skill. Just lying politicians and gullible youth who want a free ride, full medical, and the misplaced backing of a Nation called, "Patriotism"."
How easy...no skill, no brains...just money. Wow...who would have thought it. So, why are we trying to get intelligent people in the miltiary then? Why not hire the lowest common denominator and get the work done cheaper?
No brains, no skills...you've never been in the military, have you? Well, it might surprise you to learn that Captain C. B. "Sully" Sullenberger, (you know - the captain who landed the passenger plane into the Hudson without anyone getting killed - an almost miracle by most pilots standards) happened to be a Fighter Pilot/Captain in United States Air Force. But of course he has no brains or skills.
Citizen, do you have suggestions on how to resolve the issues surrounding healthcare?
Slack: You start with me. I bet the TelePromtr didn't have that response. Obama went off the cuff, knows Gates, and is black himself. He had a human reaction to the story, so what? Want Robo-Bush back in? The story now is garbage because everyone wants to CYA's. I bet Gates was belligerent. But, to cuff him after he provided proof he lived there was "plain stupid". You know how I talk to Police? "Yes sir, no sir". Period.
Slacker,
Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct. The irony is, if he had stayed in his house, he probably wouldn't have been arrested and he could have continued to call the officer racist and anything else.
One wonders if Gates WANTED to get arrested.

So Syd, you're OK with a fat cat sitting in a cubicle telling people like me their son's MRI isn't covered but are fine with collecting more than $600 each and every month for decades from my paycheck and giving their CEOs MILLIONS of dollars in bonuses?
Explain why that's OK.
dargent,
"Obama went off the cuff, knows Gates, and is black himself. Period."
Sorry but Gates was the stupid one. He left his house and continued to be belligerent to an officer who was only there trying to protect his house. Worse, after several warnings from the officer to stand down, Gates simply escalated his spew. So he got arrested. Seems to me the stupid one was Gates.
As for Obama having a human reaction to the story...well, he could have just said that he didn't have all the facts and would reserve comment. Or at least said that IF the cop had arrested Gates after Gates identified himself, then the cop was being stupid...but no, Obama said the cop acted stupidly. Pretty strange behavior from someone who happens to be a lawyer, no?
Funditto,
The difference between a company telling you what you what is covered and the federal government telling you what is covered is that you can always change companies and go to another one, assuming you don't have a pre-existing condition. If the government tells you it isn't covered, just where are you going to go next? Another country? Let's be clear about this, if the government gets involved, then it will be EVERYWHERE. You won't have a choice of going to another place for medical care, unless you'd like to go to a new country.
Another difference is, if you believe the insurance company didn't treat you right, you can alway sue them...granted it would be a long haul but you can do it. It would be much harder to sue the federal government for not being treated, especially as the federal government can determine and control whether you are and HOW you are treated.
dargent, you are correct sir, I agree it wasn't on the teleprompter, I just threw that in. Calling the police stupid, was not a smart answer to the question, you might disagree. They handcuffed the guy because that's procedure, even involving a misdemeanor.
SittingBullCrap: So was Ed McMahon. And he sat next to J. Carson for 30 years laughing at his jokes.
When a young man or woman graduates from H.S., they have several options. Going on to college is one, getting a job is another, working in the family business is another. Going to college, getting a part time job is HARD WORK.
Joining the military, where everything is done for you, food, shelter, medical, paycheck. All you have to do is follow orders. Don't ask questions. Don't question authority. It's the opposite of the real world. In today's ecomomic mess, which would you choose?
Going to college part time is a 6-8 year deal. The military is 4.
Fighting a war you know is wrong, but can't question: PRICELESS.
One thing I can tell you is that medical equipment & supplies are very expensive.
A pair of forceps(roach clips to you guys) costs around $250.
dargent, getting shot at, in a combat zone, is tedious work also.
Yeah, Funditto. There's so many good deals on health insurance out there especially if you have a special needs child. I mean, surely you can find a plan for $5/mo. You just haven't looked hard enough. Watch out or Sid will accuse you of trying to mooch of her and the rich folks, even though she would like to see tax payer money used to spruce up Hickory Hollow Mall.
chief, they could have arrested the guy in his house. They were either trying to walk away from him, or just walked outside to let him mouth off, in front of witnesses.
Slack: I just feel the Police get the raw deal a lot of times. They get a 9/11 call, respond. They see a black man walking in the house, they don't know if someone else is in there, sleeping, hiding, raped....The good professor shot off his mouth about being black and that automatically escalated it. He could of been respectful, but I bet he used the whole senario for a platform for his "repression". Maybe I watch COPS on TV too much, but people when confronted by Police, loose their minds.
Slacker,
Well they could have, but technically, he wasn't guilty of disorderly conduct until he went outside.
Chief: Did you watch the Obama response? Obama CLEARLY said he wasn't arrested until AFTER he "showed proof" of residency. Obama was right. Take the parental controls OFF your TV.

LOL! Chief thinks just 'cause he's healthy, the whole world is and if they're sick then somehow it's their fault and they shouldn't be asking for help.
Here's a reality check: When our job ends next month, we'll be SOL because of my son's preexisting condition (that he was born with).
Shopping around is for TVs and new sofas. Not healthcare.
Slack: I'd rather be shot at in sunny Afghanistan than take Organic Chemistry. Or Theoretical Calculus.
dargent, I don't necessarily think he had to be respectful, or kiss their butt. He should have explained, and showed his ID, and I'm betting they would have said thank you sir, and left to go get a donut, with emergency lights on. My main comment was Obama using the word stupid, he was maybe hassled by the police in his youth.
dargent,
"Joining the military, where everything is done for you, food, shelter, medical, paycheck. All you have to do is follow orders. Don't ask questions. Don't question authority. It's the opposite of the real world. In today's ecomomic mess, which would you choose?"
Yep, you have NEVER been in the miltiary, that's for sure. Ok...let's look at being in the military then. First thing is, you have to be up at 4:30 in the morning 5 days a week to do PT (that's physical training). Then, you go get cleaned up, put on a uniform, eat breakfast (DON'T be late unless you want to get yelled at and possibly an Article 15 which could cost you money, a promotion or extra work), and then get to work. You don't get breaks during the day most of the time so you're working until lunch. Then you eat lunch for one hour only ((same rule applies as lunch and breakfast). Now you continue to work until dinner time (same rule applies as lunch and breakfast). Now, since your in the military and there is no such thing as the end of the day, you may have to continue your work until the job is done (don't bother asking if you get overtime because that doesn't exist in the military), or until 10:00PM as militiary regulations specify that you must be given a minimum of sleep.
Oh and the weekends? If you are needed you will work on the weekends too at your regular job. And even if you aren't, you may have to pull CQ (Charge of Quarters) to ensure any emergency is handled. OR you may have to pull Staff Duty for the post, in case someone has an emergency on the post. OR you may have an inspection and have to spend your weekend cleaning up the unit or mowing lawns or pulling police call.
Now, all the above is JUST in garrison. If you were in the field, you would have almost NO time off and would be always on duty. And if you think THIS is bad, try being in a combat zone.
Joining the military for a tour - 8 years. Going to college - 4 years. Knowing absolutely nothing about the military but still making idiotic comments like being in the military is easy - PRICELESS.
Here's a reality check: When our job ends next month, we'll be SOL because of my son's preexisting condition (that he was born with).
Wow, Funditto. I'm so sorry to hear that. *hug* That's scary.
If the Gates had been white, would we be talking about it today?
Antoher qusetion comes to mind.
How many people here have been stop/arrested by police in a black neighborhood after dark?
Another qusetion come to mind.
I wonder if Gates has been stop by the police before and how many times?
chief, sorry, but you can commit disorderly conduct inside also. Think about it.
Dargent,
"I'd rather be shot at in sunny Afghanistan than take Organic Chemistry. Or Theoretical Calculus."
Ok...I think this takes the award of the stupidest statement of the year award.
You've never been shot at either, have you? I have news for you, there are a bunch of soldiers at Walter Reed who would MUCH rather have taken Organic Chemistry or Theoretical Calculus.
white men commenting on what it's like to be black in America - PRICELESS
Slacker,
Probably...but without witnesses, it would have been harder on the cop. As it is, Gates is the one looking bad.
dargent,
"Did you watch the Obama response? Obama CLEARLY said he wasn't arrested until AFTER he "showed proof" of residency. Obama was right."
Sorry but Obama is wrong. Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct. There were lots of witnesses. You might want to read the arrest report.
chief, I think Obama is looking bad, he picked the wrong situation, to comment on race.
Slacker,
True. I think he helped himself a bit, though, when he prefaced his comment by saying he didn't have the facts of the case. But it still looks bad when a lawyer makes an off-the-cuff comment like that.
