Best chance for positive change

Tennessee families need the security of guaranteed, affordable, quality health insurance now. Health care reform must happen now. The time for playing politics is over!

“America’s Affordable Health Choices” act is not perfect, but what bill is? Tennesseans and Americans are hurting. We need national reform now, yet I hear that some in Congress are stalling. We’ve had too many years of doing nothing. Doing nothing is an option we cannot afford.

One in three Tennesseans are uninsured for all or part of the year. Those with insurance are paying more and getting less, and could lose what they have at any time. Tennesseans are going into financial hardship because of medical debt. And, small businesses are collapsing trying to do right by their workers and help with medical benefits.

We now have the best chance in a generation for our country to move in a positive direction toward fixing our ailing health care system. Let’s not squander this chance.

I urge other Tennesseans, who are fed up with paying more and getting less for their health insurance, or who cannot afford decent health care, or who have medical debt, to speak up. Join with me and call Congress to do what is right for Tennessee’s working families and for Americans.

Government is the cause not the solution. When they got involved with medicare paying less then market rates then the private sector had to make up the difference.

The more (people) they covered the more that had to be made up.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions and they prove it over and over again.

They declared it was "undignified" to go to city/charity hospitals for FREE medical care so they took it over. Government control is nothing more then wealth redistribution and trickle up poverty.

We should cover millions of illegals why?

The dems in particular believes that charity begins with other peoples money and Margeret Thatcher is credited with saying Socialism works until they run out of other peoples money to spend.

Unless I break a bone or contract spinal meningitis, the LAST place I want to go to get healthy is a hospital -crawling with those drug pushers calling themselves doctors.

By: house_of_pain on 8/5/09 at 5:15

That's an unhealthy attitude, d7. You should see a doctor about that.

By: dargent7 on 8/5/09 at 5:29

d'pain: Last time I saw a Dr. was for a company physical. The only problem, physically, (not psychologically), was high blood pressure. She said unless I take these 4 medications immediately, the blood vessels in my eyes will expolde. Five years later, I still only need 1 dog when I walk instead of two.

By: gdiafante on 8/5/09 at 5:53

It's too early in the morning for such tired cliches id...

Here's the bottom line, whether your support reform or are content with the way things are, contact your representatives and let them know.

There, that's my "responsible citizen" post of the day...

By: gdiafante on 8/5/09 at 5:55

Dargent, I went to my PCP concerning a hernia and he said it was GERD. Seriously. That was the first time I realized that Ben was right, and everything we were taught in school was a lie...the esophagus is really in your crotch...

By: dargent7 on 8/5/09 at 6:04

gd: You had a bad apple. It's just that ALL my friends and family are "on something". High blood pressure, blood thinners, statins, pain meds, cholesterol reducers, heart meds, d**ck pills,.....Drs. just write out a script for colds when they know have no effect on viruses. With that shooting at the health club in PA, even those clubs are bad for your health.

By: house_of_pain on 8/5/09 at 6:05

I have Barrett's esophagus, gd. Maybe you got stuck with mine.

By: dargent7 on 8/5/09 at 6:13

d'pain: I saw your X-Rays...your body is shaped like a Bartlett pear.

The letter is right on..

Do not break d7 leg house.

The Off-topic division of TCP is now open for business: Check out the photos of those 3 women who held captive the filandering guy...gives new meaning to the phrase "dog pound".

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 7:00

I agree with Dargent (shocking!).

I don't like being in hospitals and around doctors because everyone else there is sick.

By: slacker on 8/5/09 at 7:19

dargent, did your medications have little ''m's'' on them?
chief, I agree. If people would boycott doctors and hospitals, they would lower their prices. We don't need no stinkin' insurance reform, call your representative and shout em down.

By: gdiafante on 8/5/09 at 7:23

Yes, boycott doctors and hospitals...let's let disease fester and spread without attempting to keep it in check.

Genius.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 7:29

Slacker,

If people would only go to the doctor when they were sick, it might cut down on the expenses too.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 7:30

Gdia,

Hey, it would decrease the surplus population...so those who say we have too many people for poor, ol' mother earth would be happy, I guess.

My wife works with many on TNCARE. Seems the (underpaid) doctors know that it is much cheaper to dispense drugs than to actually fix the problem. That, and the fact that they keep their patients rather than curing them.

By: dargent7 on 8/5/09 at 7:40

For entertainment, read all the disclaimers and contra-indications on the flip side of those advertised drugs in magazines. Some say, "HOMICIDE"/ "SUICIDE"...I kid you not. (but your cholesterol levels are just peachy).

By: slacker on 8/5/09 at 7:41

chief, it will only work, if the population completely boycotts the medical establishment.
It ain't gonna kill anybody to put off that by-pass surgery for awhile, heck, a cab driver can deliver a baby. You can postpone brain surgery by blowing your nose often. Granted, a penis super glued to your abdomen, might require some help, but you can get that at the gas station.
If everybody will stick together we will bring them to their knees.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/5/09 at 7:42

the problem isn't with the doctors, it's with the pharma and insurance industries.

gd, i drank a brew for you last night.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/5/09 at 7:44

i contacted PETT for advice and for the number for their grief services division. i am researching the final resting places for TLF. i've also made arrangements with my heathen friends for an atheist last rites.

*sniff*

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 7:46

Blanket,

Ok..but don't the doctors keep the pharma and insurance industries in business, at times prescribing a lot of stuff? I always thought it was a big partnership myself.

Ms Chief's doctor keeps pushing a B12 shot every time she goes in...to help her feel better. Now she says it does...but it also costs each time.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/5/09 at 7:47

not always, chief. the insurance companies are what drives up cost.

By: Dragon on 8/5/09 at 7:50

Those B12 shots and such are being encouraged as "preventative", so see more and more of that.

If you want to blame the insurance industry, TNCARE is the primary example of a government run health insurance.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/5/09 at 7:58

TNCARE just needed to be better administered. don't throw out the baby with the wash.

By: Loner on 8/5/09 at 8:04

Good morning, Nashville!

Another LTE about the Health Care debate? Yes, it's a big deal, but this is starting to get boring and stale.

I must commend Idgaf for putting together a fairly articulate post and for finally crediting Maggaie Thatcher for coining the term, "other people's money". True, Id's post resonates with echoes of the EIB network and FOX News, still, Idgaf's communication skills have shown marked improvement over the years.

Id is still wrong, most of the time, but I respect the fact that he gives a rat's patootie about current events and public issues.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 8:05

Blanket,

Granted...but I suspect the pharma and doctors help. Just my opinion, mind you.

Slack: You can get your johnson super glued to your stomach at the gas station? Where do you fill up? I usually pay extra for that at Cheetah's upstairs "Member's Only" club.

I suppose that we could emulate the ancient Spartans. Any sickly infant was taken out and left to die, if the kids could not keep up with the adults, on a forced march, they were left behind. They culled their own herd, only the strongest (and most heartless) survived to breed. They excelled at war and sport, but little else.

By: dargent7 on 8/5/09 at 8:17

FYI: Those B-12 shots work really well, either actually or as a placebo effect. Once you get a Drs. script, you can have it re-filled numerous times and buy the needles over- the- counter...diabetic insulin guage. You can shoot yourself, in the arm, kinda scary at first, but cheap and effective. Especially during the cold winter months.

By: BenDover on 8/5/09 at 8:17

Bill brought home the girls. He had to endure Kim Jong Little for a day but score he did and the girls are home now. God bless him for doing this.

What I wonder is why their story was buried for 2 months. I really can't imagine this not being a daily headline under Bush the whole time they were captive.

By: BenDover on 8/5/09 at 8:18

make that 4 months...

By: slacker on 8/5/09 at 8:22

dargent, hard times requires desperate measures. I recommend Mapcos on Harding rd. You must bring your own goggles, ask for ''Sweet Fern''

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 8:23

Loner,

"I suppose that we could emulate the ancient Spartans. Any sickly infant was taken out and left to die, if the kids could not keep up with the adults, on a forced march, they were left behind. Hummm...kill off any unwanted spawn...sounds familiar. Oh and they also let those who were sickly just go off to die too...that also sounds familiar too.

The more the world changes, the more it stays the same, I guess.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 8:25

That's a good idea and shooting herself wouldn't be an issue as she already does that with insulin...but the good doc won't give her a script...only an injection once a month.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 8:28

Well, it SOUNDS like most Americans don't want healthcare at the expense of increasing the deficit anyway.

Scrap Health Care Reform If It Adds To Deficit, U.S. Voters Tell Quinnipiac University National Poll; Voters Disapprove Of Obama's Handling Of Health Care

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1284.xml?ReleaseID=1357&What=&strArea=;&strTime=0

By: slacker on 8/5/09 at 8:33

chief, did you ask the doc., why a script is necessary for B-12?

By: Loner on 8/5/09 at 8:35

Ben, I commented on your last post yesterday. It's good to know that you recognize the statesmanship and courage of this much-maligned former President.

To answer your question, the story was buried by other news, such as the Iran elections and protests, the Michael Jackson Death Extravaganza, Sarah Palin's resignation and the Health Care debate.

The Iranians are holding three US "tourists". Jimmy Carter, the other humanitarian ex-prez, will probably be tapped, to go in there and get them out.

The Bush boys, pop and junior, don't seem to seek out risky, uncompensated, humanitarian work, like the Democratic former Presidents do. They stay hunkered in their bunkers.

By: gdiafante on 8/5/09 at 8:36

"gd, i drank a brew for you last night."

Thanks, I had one myself...Sam Adams Black Lager...good stuff...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/5/09 at 8:37

News archive search proves pretending need to "learn more" is just another stalling tactic used for more than 50 years by private insurance companies to stop universal healthcare in the United States.

If Congress weren't in the pockets of the insurance lobby, health care reform would have happened years ago. We have the best government money can buy.

By: BenDover on 8/5/09 at 8:41

Bush would have gone Team America on the little sock-puppet.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 8:41

Slacker,

No, we never got a script. Dargent said you could get one. We just assumed it had to be administered by the doctor.

nazi, why do they require a prescription for B-12?

By: gdiafante on 8/5/09 at 8:45

You don't have to have a script for B-12.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/5/09 at 8:45

Gdia,

"If Congress weren't in the pockets of the insurance lobby, health care reform would have happened years ago. We have the best government money can buy."

Indeed...as opposed to the best government we can forever pay for. Ah well, I won't have to deal with it too long being almost 50.
