‘Sick bill’ needs a cure

We do need legislation to change the health insurance paradigm. We need for patients to be more responsible for paying their doctors and more responsible for their own health. We need to assume that adults are intelligent and can make wise decisions for themselves.

None of these things are in the Democrats’ bill. The more I read about this legislation, with page references and the document available for confirmation, the more I see this as a benevolent tyrant’s dream come true.

The frenzy by Democrats and President Obama to pass "health care reform" would otherwise be curious if not for the intention to keep the details fuzzy. From the Solons who brought us the $400 hammer, freezers full of cash and the GM bailout, I cannot see the wisdom in handing over total control of the "public welfare" to them.

While Medicare is currently successful, Medicaid has been a black hole. Handing supervision of my healthcare to CMS — the anonymous bureaucracy with absolute authority and more regard for rules than people — is madness.

The Democrats' "health care reform" is a sick bill. That's why there are angry citizens speaking out. Begin again with an open and honest discussion of the failings of both private sector and public sector healthcare. The Democrats' owe that to all Americans. After all, they control Congress and the White House.

chief, you are so oblivious. you don't even realize how you could be one health crisis away from losing everything you worked so hard to obtain. talk about wearing blinders....

but that's okay. put on your weekend warrior national guard soldier outfit and go play your war games. btw, do you do paintball too?

By: slacker on 8/6/09 at 8:11

nemo, can't you just hear Raymond Burr & Broderick Crawford whispering sweet nothing to each other, with Crawford screaming out 10-444444444444444..

By: slacker on 8/6/09 at 8:13

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/6/09 at 8:16

Maybe this will clear up the how the numbers are growing.

"you don't even realize how you could be one health crisis away from losing everything you worked so hard to obtain. talk about wearing blinders...."

Oh I realize that...I would just rather live with that than to have the government take everything I've worked so hard to obtain with a whimper and lose it anyway. At least I have a chance of keeping what I've worked hard for if a health crisis doesn't come. And I can always recover eventually from a health crisis...if the government takes it all away, I'll never get it back.

"btw, do you do paintball too?"

gdifante - gdifannie, you are so judgmental and Wrong AGAIN. I don't have cable so I'm stuck with ABC - the most liberal bi-assed and Channel 5 cause I like CSI. So there. You are so wrong. Don't watch fox and didn't grow up on Friends - like you did. I don't need tv or blogs to have Friends like you do. I have NEVER paid a cable bill. Oh, I'm wrong. I tried it once for 30 days. Not worth it. Needed to invest in my own future and health care so I wouldn't have to ask uncle SAMMIE for money.

A Study in Contrast

By: gdiafante on 8/6/09 at 8:39

It's "Gdiafante", if you're going to make fun of my name, at least get it right...jeez

I thought you were at work? Did you lie?

By: gdiafante on 8/6/09 at 8:46

Slacker, I think there were rumors of every major star back then being gay...except Jimmy Stewart...

Not that there's anything wrong with that

By: gdiafante on 8/6/09 at 8:47

Hey Sid, I'll extend an olive branch...there's a gun show this weekend, wanna go?

Some Housekeeping:
Eddie Munster's doll was "Wof-Wof".
And who pissed of SidVic so early this am?
Sid: Clinton was not "banging Lewinski under the Oval Office desk"....he got a bj and used a cigar to diddle her. He NEVER had intercourse with her. That's why he could say "I did not have sexual relations with that woman". Granted, it's a grey area where sex is concerned, but you fools spent $60. to humiliate a sitting President. And for what? Ethics? Morality? Honesty? And then prop up Bush & Cheney,...two of the biggest liars to step foot in the White House. Who's the dumb a@@?

By: slacker on 8/6/09 at 8:58

gdiafante, Yeah, that was the kiss of death in those days. Don't really know, but I don't think Crawford was gay. Raymond Burr eventually came out.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

By: gdiafante on 8/6/09 at 8:59

I did dargent. Sometimes you just have to call people on their ridiculous rhetoric. Plus, I'm bored...

Ok, who was the guy who played the "red shirt" in the Star Trek episode "The Corbomite Maneuver"...

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/6/09 at 9:04

Ah me. The President was under oath and asked a question. Now he could have pled the 5th and said nothing OR he could have told the truth. Instead, contrary to what he SHOULD have done (and KNEW to do as he was a lawyer) he lied under oath...he committed perjury...a high crime.

Now if you are saying should the question have been asked? Well, as he was on trial for the Paula Jones situation, the question seems fairly valid. Recall, Clinton could most likely have passed on the trial, in spite of the supoena as he was President and had other considerations at the time...but he chose to attend.

Now to the next part - you can claim that Bush and Cheney are liars all you want - I personally don't think so but that;s my opinion - but the point is, NEITHER lied under oath...as such, they could NOT be impeached for lying.

sid did not get up from the wrong side of the bed as most people think. She hangs from the ceiling of her cave. She lost her footing and hit her head on the cave floor this morning

lol, Nemo!

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/6/09 at 9:07

BTW, I have heard from someone who has traded in their car in the Cash for Clunkers situation. I understand you have to have had the car covered with comprehensive insurance (full coverage only) for an entire year before you can trade your car in on this.

I'm going to try to look this up but does anyone here know for sure whether this is true or not right now?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/6/09 at 9:07

causing or worthy of ridicule or derision; absurd; preposterous; laughable: a ridiculous plan

By: dargent7 on 8/6/09 at 9:07

That does it. I'm writing my Congressman. Oh, not about health care, but about Perry Mason being gay. The guy's next show was 'Ironsides". What gay men call themselves "Ironsides"? Greg Louganis I could see. Those girlie figure skaters, ok. Who's next? That mixed martial atrs champion, Brock Lexner is going to come out?

By: sidneyames on 8/6/09 at 9:09

gee-dia-fante, yes I'm at work; my main job is to annoy people. I get paid well to do that. But my part time job is calling, so I have to go. But not without commenting on all the homophobic comments regarding actors being gay. Good grief; don't you people have something else to talk about. You're ruining my good thoughs about all these deceased actors. Next year ya'll all gonna be saying O'man is gay. Who cares what a person's sexual preference is, as long as they do their job right? And we know lied under oath, but when you're a democrat it's O.K., just ask Pelosi and Obama and the rest of the Liars.

The floor in sid's cave is Chiefly a disgrace.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/6/09 at 9:10

Well, this says it must have been insured for 12 continuous months prior to the exchange...still looking to see if it had to be comprehensive insurance.

Good morning, Nashville!

The LTE author used the term "benevolent tyrant", seems that born-again preachers have long used that term to describe the supreme being. When they start using terms like that and when they throw in the abortion argument one can assume that the Christian Right has condemned the Health Care bill and is lobbying for its defeat..

Once again, tax-exempt entities are trying to dictate tax-use policies. The Holy Men should stick to the supernatural and leave the here and now to scientists, humanists and pragmatists.

Now, back to more Online Trivia...

Dargent has an intern? Does Dargent work for the government?

By: dargent7 on 8/6/09 at 9:21

Chief: Let's weigh the effects of "which President's lie caused the most damage".
Clinton got set-up and railroaded by that manish woman who befriended Monica.
He's married. He's the President. Any normal married man in America lies about an affair. You are NOT normal if you'd confess and cry like a baby and ask for forgiveness. (I know, I know...you'd never have an affair. How boring).
Bush looked the American people in the eyes at the 2nd State of the Union, and told a whopper after a whopper about Hussein. All bullsh**t.
And, save me the line,"he never associated 9/11 with the invasion of Iraq".
Cheney wanted Iraq, Bush is an oil man,...their fortunes reside in oil...it was a "perfect storm", however, all 100% bullsh**t.
Now, take a lollipop from the bowl and go home.

"House"..the more that is exposed with all these role models I looked up to, as being gay...I'm starting to question myself.
I find, as I get older, a peculiar interest in what women are talking about when they talk to me. I am starting to actually listen,
Also, I do laundry once a week now, instead of once a month, and separate the colors.
Instead of saying, "Get me another beer, bitch", I say, "Honey, will you bring me a brewski".
I favor lavender sheets in the spring and summer months, and change the bed's colors for fall.
I don't care any more if the Titans loose, as long as their jersey's are clean and pressed.
I just don't know what to do.

Folks, the War Lobby controlled the Bush Administation, this potent lobby consists of three seperate, powerful entities: the Defense industry, the Israel lobby and the Energy lobby (DIE). Dick Cheney worked as a lawmaker-turned lobbyist-turned lawmaker. He's now a lobbyist, once again. What a sleaze bag.

Obama is trying to advance the public interest, as a result the special interests will try to destroy him.

Bush never lied under oath...that is a fact. Regardless of what you think, he can not be tried for perjury...period.

Clinton DID lie under oath...that is also a fact. Hence, Clinton was impeached...and technically speaking, should have been ousted from office by the Senate, if they had really been doing their legally-bound jobs. However, I also agree that a man should not be ousted for lying about is liasions. The impeachment was humiliation enough.

These are facts, plain and simple.

um...Hugh Hefner?

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/6/09 at 9:35

"Obama is trying to advance the public interest, as a result the special interests will try to destroy him."

I disagree. It won't be special interests that will destroy him...his own agenda and his refusal to believe the majority of Americans don't agree 100% with what he wants to accomplish...coupled with his refusal to bow to the wishes of the general populace and his notion that he knows better what's good for us than we do...will destroy him --- IF he doesn't realize the people have the power in this country!

Sal Mineo was Sicilian, he wasn't allowed to be gay.

Bush never lied under oath......He just lied or did what Dick told him to do.
