What’s that sucking sound?

Hopefully the people of Nashville will let their elected officials know that they do not want a Convention Center Authority. Mayor Karl Dean is creating the Convention center Authority under the provisions of Public Chapter 474, the Convention Center Authorities Authorization Act of 2009.

This 22-page law greatly increases the size, scope, and power of government and then vests that power in a small group to be known as the Convention Center Authority.

When the size, scope and power of government grows individual liberty shrinks. Creation of a Convention Center Authority will greatly undermine the libertarian values so deeply cherished by the people of Nashville.

All of Nashville should come to the public meeting on Convention Center PR on the Aug. 17 and to the rally planned to oppose the Convention Center Authority on Aug. 18.

In the meantime let us flood Metro Council with phone calls, e-mails and letters opposing the Convention Center Authority. Metro Council should listen closely to the sound of $1 billion being sucked from the local economy for this project.

Loner, I was there '88-'90, and the old Germans saw us as invaders, the young ones saw us as intruders, but the middle-aged knew the deal. If they could fight like they cook, we wouldn't have to be there.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 11:21

What would jesus do? Apparently I missed the part where he lined the pockets of insurance company CEOs, let the poor, huddled masses die of treatable diseases, all while oiling his M-16s to use against his neighbor, who had, y'know, accidentally smudged Jesus' Puma.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 11:22

Blanket,

As long as people say it is happening but can't show it, I have trouble believing it...especially since we have been told many things and then have been told people "misspoke". So yeah, when it comes to people saying there was violence, I tend to wait to see if there is video of it.

So far, the only violence I've seen is the beating of the black conservative guy.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 11:24

i guess in your mind there is nothing wrong with stalking because the person hasn't hurt someone yet.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 11:26

smarmy
-adj.

1 : revealing or marked by a smug, ingratiating, or false earnestness
2 : of low sleazy taste or quality

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 11:28

Blanket,

No one said anything about someone stalking either. Seems to me you're reading into it...or has someone actually been arrested for stalking?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 11:29

stalking and intimidation are similar. apparently you don't view either as violent.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 11:30

Blanket,

Jesus would say that charity should be done by those able to do so. But then charity begins in the heart...not in the government taxes.

give Caesar's things to Caesar.

By: Loner on 8/14/09 at 11:34

When I was there, the second world war had ended just 26 years previously. At the time, I thought that was a lot of time. Now, I see that it takes a lot more time than that for things to heal and for horrific memories to fade into oblivion.

I made it to a few beer fests. I stayed in Garmische-Partenkirchen (spelling?) for a few days. It wasn't all bad. In the huge wooden beer halls, the oompa-pa bands played from an elevated central stage while swaying throngs of sudsy beer lovers sang songs and lifted their steins. I saw big breasted, Teutonic matrons serving the brew, sometimes carrying four ceramic, one-liter mugs, filled with festival beer, in each hand.....that sort of image sticks with a man for a lifetime.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 11:37

that sort of image sticks with a man for a lifetime.

LOL!

By: house_of_pain on 8/14/09 at 11:38

They also take the Chicken Dance pretty seriously.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 11:42

Blanket,

"give Caesar's things to Caesar."

Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars and render unto God, that which is Gods.

Charity not freely given is not charity at all...hence taxes are NOT charity.

By: Loner on 8/14/09 at 11:46

I'm not lyin', BN. True, they do, Pain. Dean Martin was huge on the German jukeboxes. From what I saw of the population, they seemed rather ordinary - not supermen at all. Maybe that's because their best and brightest were sacrificed in the world wars....the very lucky and the unfit for duty males survived to breed.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 11:48

Dean Martin is huge over there? Really? LOL!

By: Loner on 8/14/09 at 11:56

He was at the time, BN, that was 1968-69. Dean was popular here in the states then too; he had his own TV show, his songs were at the top of the charts, he appeared in some major movies - I must admit it, I thought Dean Martin was a pretty cool guy...I still think so.

The right-wing fruits have been pushing for a fight, ever since Obama was elected President. Maybe this is how the plan to start the next Civil War.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/14/09 at 12:23

LOL MamaG.

By: brrrrk on 8/14/09 at 12:25

chief said,

Luke 12:48... also says, "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." Notice the word required

By: house_of_pain on 8/14/09 at 12:28

Consider the source, brrrrk.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/14/09 at 12:29

slacker, in all of my collection of CD's I don't have a single song of Martin or Sinatra's. I am going to put that on my list right have a I get my Pretenders collection going.

Thanks for bring it up. Which album was it?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 12:29

house, do you want to borrow my punk rock pocket protector to wear with your see through lab coat?

By: house_of_pain on 8/14/09 at 12:31

Only if there is a chicken stapled to it.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 12:31

Nemo

"The right-wing fruits have been pushing for a fight, ever since Obama was elected President. Maybe this is how the plan to start the next Civil War."

Start a Civil War? With a minor altercation? Can't see that, myself.

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 12:32

brrrrk,

"Luke 12:48... also says, "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required." Notice the word required"

By GOD brrrrk...NOT the government. God expects someone to whom HE has given much to give back much in Charity...not taxes.

Perfect!

By: chiefpayne568 on 8/14/09 at 12:33

House,

Exactly...consider the source. The bible teaches us about charity...not about how much a government can do for individuals.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/14/09 at 12:34

Grrrr!

Is that another chicken joke??

By: brrrrk on 8/14/09 at 12:34

By: Captain Nemo on 8/14/09 at 12:39

I will look for it, slacker. Thanks!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 8/14/09 at 12:40

Mama, here's a trivia question for you....

According to the dictionary, what word best describes the terms of address for people who are stupid, irritating or ridiculous?

By: MamaG on 8/14/09 at 12:41

Chief, you should read Titus 3:1-2. "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men."

I think that covers the President too. Don't let's start on bible thumping today.

By: brrrrk on 8/14/09 at 12:47

Blanketnazi2 said

Nope, because he was tied to the chicken...
