Life over death sentence
Knoxville murderer gets life without parole may not be what the victims’ families wanted, but for their grief it was probably the best sentence for Letalvis Cobbins to receive.
Unfortunately, if Cobbins had been sentenced to death, then he would have sat in a cell for 20-plus years with nothing but appeals or new trials. If this had happened, the Newsom and Christian families would have to completely go through the torture again and again each time this scum’s court-appointed attorney was able to get in front of a judge.
I know how they feel and I hope they know many people feel sympathy and empathy for all parties involved from the victim status. They are all victims in this case and many feel they were raped, beaten and tortured themselves. Again, as the jury did convict one who caused their pain, remember he will never be able to breathe a single breath of freedom’s air, walk outside a razor wired fence without being chained down in shackles and will be reminded of what he did each day when he is even 65 years old and still locked up.
Yes, we the taxpayers will care for him for life, but he can’t do this to any other innocent people ever again.

I agree and suspect that the remaining defendants will cop a plea if they are offered the same sentence sparing everyone a lot of grief and the state money.
Life without parole (plus the sentences for the other charges) in someways are better/worse then 20 years of appeals. Look/think of McVey his sentance/punishment was over in about two years.
Furthermore according to the reports this guy was not an active participant in the murders which does make a difference.
Life without parole or hope is quite severe and appropriate for this defendant IMO.
I do not know how the writer "knows how you feel". And who's to say he'll die at 65? The guy now has 3 squares a day, full medical, housing, a temperature controlled room, scheduled recreation and exercise, dental visits, computer classes, law classes, lawyer visits, probably conjugal visits. Guy will probably out live us all.
I know how you feel, d7.
I hope they put these monsters in an area where they will be beaten & raped. Repeatedly.
D, that was just a age to come up with and I do know as I have been in their shoes with a brutal murder and torture of loved ones. Get over it. No conjugal and he is charged for medical and dental visits a co-pay. Housing sometimes may be temperatured controled, but cell is small and not much room. You do not know some facts as I do about death row and believe me life without is better than you think.
Well, all righty then...it's only 6:30 am and I'm getting hate mail. Just like the old days.
"House": "Beaten & raped...repeatedly". Are you dating one of my ex-wives?
Frankly, I would rather they had been put on death row. Granted, they could have appealed and appealed...but eventually, the appeals would have run out and I seriously doubt this guy would have won at any rate. Besides, I like the idea of this maggot sitting in a tiny little cell, with only 1 hour yard time a day and the other 23 in his cell, waiting for the Sword of Damocles to come falling into his perverted, disgusting little brain.
I guess someone needs to tell her a Democrat is in the Oval Office, and that her services are no longer needed.

chief, who pays Cindy Sheehan, and does she have health care?
Chief: And it's costing $38,000 per year, per inmate, for you to feel vengence and your morality clause.
Slacker,
Who is Cindy Sheehan? She's a nut.
Does she have health care? My interest level isn't sufficient to find out.
Dargent,
Hummm...you have a point. So maybe if the death penalty were CARRIED OUT, there wouldn't be such a horrendous cost, yes?
Chief, there have been several death row inmates who have even had their sentences over turned and given life. Plus some have even gotten out on parole due to the overturning of their death sentences.
Gower,
True enough. But I'll wager these situations aren't common...and the inmates crimes weren't as horrendous as what was done to these victims.
Sorry but I believe that in this instance the death penalty punishment would fit the crime.
You know what REALLY irritates me? The lack of reporting on this case! It's like it just didn't matter to the news services, even here in Tennessee!
Whatever happened to the old "if it bleeds, it leads"?
I doubt this will ever pass!

I am for the death penalty. The only thing is that it drags for decades at times and puts the victims through more torture. If you remeber the murders in Gatlinburg several years ago (!980's). The leader of the group got the death sentence and it too was horrific. His dealth sentence was overturned and now he is serving a life sentence and can get out someday soon. Cobbins will never walk out and will stay locked up for life.
wow, id and i totally agree on this one.
what color are the flying pigs again?

Grower: Almost weekly, inmates are freed from prison due to DNA evidence proved their innocence. And therefore, how many were killed due to our wonderful criminal justice system wrongly?
I'm appalled at your expressions here, chief. You cry anti-abortionists are the anti-christs and life begins at conception yet, you wish for the death penalty to be inflicted on someone. What a hypoctrite! I bet you don't give blood either, do ya?

Where did you get that figure, darge? That is truly disgusting to think we have to spend that much per inmate. I don't even make that much in a year nowdays!
sanctimonious on one hand and blood thirsty on the other.
blanket, must be psychedelic!
(The pig color, I meant)
Yes, that's right, blood thirsty. Vampiric, even.
How about getting my name right D..... and DNA is good, but when it is 1000% positive that someone is guilty, then appeals should be speedy and the sentence carried out quickly. Not all this dragging feet and causing millions spent on appeal lawyers and taking care of the killers. I am just saying for the letter itself, that this sentence is best for the family as they wouldn't see any type of execution probably until 2025 if possible and who is to say that the Supreme Court doesn't someday say that the Death Penalty is unconstitutional.
Wow, there are some pretty SCARY people out there!
The Footnote Speaks: What Would Mary Jo Kopechne Have Thought of Ted's Career?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/melissa-lafsky/the-footnote-speaks-what_b_270298.html
FTA: "We don't know how much Kennedy was affected by her death, or what she'd have thought about arguably being a catalyst for the most successful Senate career in history. What we don't know, as always, could fill a Metrodome.
Still, ignorance doesn't preclude a right to wonder. So it doesn't automatically make someone (aka, me) a Limbaugh-loving, aerial-wolf-hunting NRA troll for asking what Mary Jo Kopechne would have had to say about Ted's death, and what she'd have thought of the life and career that are being (rightfully) heralded.
Who knows -- maybe she'd feel it was worth it. "
Gower: Who'd name their kid "Gower", anyway?
It is my ancestors last name and if you check the main old courthouse downtown, you will see that my family were original settlers of Nashville. There is also a school and road named Gower in west Nashville.
The jazz was jumpin' this morning, Blanket.
Much better than last week.
Good morning, Nashville!
Don't know the story behind the LTE, so I can't comment. I did read an article in an Israel newspaper that claims that DNA evidence can be fabicated/altered. If anybody could or would, it would be those incredibly clever Israelis. FYI, studies show that the average Jewish person scores 15 points higher on the Stanford Binet IQ tests, as opposed to non-Jews.
and yet he just obliviously keeps posting.....
disgusting.

Much better indeed. Pete was off last week for sure.

Sounds like a hot seller, Pain. How's your Bagle this morning? Buddy just hounded me for cheese.
Hey I even tuned in to WRVU this morning! It was pretty good. One old group reminded me of the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
When I hear the name Gower, I think of "It's A Wonderful Life." Mr. (or "Old Man") Gower was George Bailey's boss at the drug store.
i saw a comic yesterday where Obama was sitting at a picnic table with Vic and the pit bulls havin' a beer. I had to laugh....LOL!
so you liked Nashville Jumps, Mama? Pretty cool, huh?
We're looking for a good home for her.
She needs more attention & exercise than we can give her.
The situation isn't fair for our Molly Monster.
Oh, come on Gower, get off your high horse. In school, I thought Glenn was a poor choice for boys (one kid, and played the violin) and Margo was a poor choice for girls (she was hot).
You got your LTE printed and will probable get laid tonight by Ms. Gower. Count your blessings.
Gower? Pronounced "goer", or does it rhyme with power? If they named me after an old family surname, you probably would not be able to pronounce it....my mother's side came from East Prussia.
What kind of monster is molly?
Bagle. 9 months old.
Pretty cool, blanket. I enjoyed it although I prefer more rockabilly or surfer style myself. Then again, I like pretty much anything that is upbeat. I don't care for slow, draggy music unless it's bluegrass. lol
Loner is it like Power.....
Oh blanket, have you seen the snuggies for dogs now? I meant to tell you about them earlier this week. Thought you would want to stock up for your babies this winter...LOL
Gower like power, meet Loner like boner.
MamaG,

I can reconcile the two Mama...both positions save innocent lives. Being anti-abortion means children live and being pro-death penalty means killers can never ever kill again.
