Soured on Sugarland

[As for your Aug. 27 cover story on Sugarland], it just proves that you do not need to be able to sing to be on top.

I have talked with five people today as we ate in the cafeteria and all said things like “I can’t stand to hear [Jennifer Nettles] sing.” “I turn off my radio when they come on.” I have hated all their songs.”

And two years in a row, Sugarland was all the talk of our Christmas parties. We can’t stand them. Who are the people that like them? It’s scary.

I'm one of them Mary. Sounds like sour grapes to me just because you probably sound like hell trying to warble.

By: dooley on 8/31/09 at 1:31

That was in answer to your question as to who the scary people who like tham are.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/31/09 at 2:05

Good morning.

While we are on this subject let us change it.

Good grief Mary. With all that is wronge and right with the world this is your letter?

Tells of the Weird

The chief Priest stood over the new born and performed the Christen. "To all that hears I have saved this child and he is of God. I will show him the way and that life is sacred."

The parents were puzzled at the priest statments. "As for the child's parents," the chief Priest looks toward the man and woman. "I will pray to God to condemn you to death!"

"Why?" asked the parents.

"Just after you learned that you were with child, you walked by an abortion client. It was apparent to me that thought of of aborting this child." Saying that he had the church security forcibly remove the baby from the mother's arms and taken away.

About Friday

Loner to continue the subject of the souther states breaking away from the Union, I think if such a thing was to take place, any fourm of government would collapes in a short time and be taking over by another country. Russia China, Mexico.

It would not be the best thing for the south or North America. I think that any such an attempt would be crushed and the muntineers punished serverely.

Great LTE....not.
One OFF-Topic Div. ideas:
"Guns in Parks" goes into effect tonight at midnight. Let's all meet at Bi-Centennial Park with our guns! We can shoot anyone looking "suspicious", which would include 80% of this posting panel.

By: house_of_pain on 8/31/09 at 5:52

This is a joke, right? If they're printing this, that must mean d7 & dooley are falling down on the job.

By: dargent7 on 8/31/09 at 5:59

d'Pain: As of three weeks ago, all my LTE's have been returned by TCP. Their e-mail address is at an undisclosed location. And The Tennessean won't publish any of my LTE's. I'm starting to get the hint.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/31/09 at 6:05

Williamson County schools systems is boycotting any parks where guns are premitted.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/31/09 at 6:11

drgent, maybe you should change you name to say "something good comes this way."

However that does sound strange that you can't submit a letter, but you are still able to poast. Have you tryed to call TCP to find out way?

By: house_of_pain on 8/31/09 at 6:12

That's nothing, Nemo.
Mary is boycotting any asylum cafeteria where Sugarland music is piped in.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/31/09 at 6:24

house

Mary seem to have to had a run-in with Sugarland of somekind. Maybe they have a restranning order against her.

By: sidneyames on 8/31/09 at 6:25

Maybe there are some people who like Sugerland and some who don't. Isn't that why we live in America? We have the right to dislike or like. Hmmmmm. Maybe you guys would rather live in Iraq? Or Afghanistan? Or Canada. If so, I'll help pay for your moving van. When does it leave?

By: sidneyames on 8/31/09 at 6:27

P.S. And how come ya'll ain't talking about your buddy Teddy? Is that a subject that's already burned out.

By: Funditto on 8/31/09 at 6:32

Teddy was a one-of-a-kind and his funeral Mass was beautiful. GWB looked bored and confused as usual. Closed his eyes real hard when it was time to pray like a good little Prostestant.
There's not much Teddy hasn't been right about if you've been paying attention.

By: Captain Nemo on 8/31/09 at 6:36

Former Part-girl make provoking post to gain attention to herself. She does seem to be the lonely type. Hard to make friends.

Want to bet that she is jumping and laughting a Kenndy's death. I wonder if she is getting off at thethoughts of him dieing.

By: Kosh III on 8/31/09 at 6:40

Being popular or famous does not make one a good singer. Cases in point are Vince Gill and Diana Ross, both of whom are only average/mediocre. But stardom is not just talent, it's also being in the right place at the right time, being seen by the right people or even just the "casting couch."

As to Teddy, yes I was burned out by the non-stop coverage within a day. He was not a favorite person even though his policies were right. Bobby was clearly the superior brother and would have beaten Nixon. Carter was so damaged by the primary fight with Teddy in 80 that Ronald Raygun was able to win.
It's been downhill ever since.

By: Loner on 8/31/09 at 7:18

Good morning, Nashville!

"Sugarland", who dat?!

Slim pickin's this morning...the Sugarlad Fan Club must not have been alerted yet. The last time I criticized a country singing hero on the NCP boards, his fan club came online and gave me Holy Hell. Somebody rang the alarm bell and dozens of loyalists came online to dump on old Loner.

I think it was Garth Brooks or somebody like that...

By: dargent7 on 8/31/09 at 1:09

SidVicious: I cannot log on today. Comcast is down half the time and my ankle braclet is going off. I got a couple of LTE's about Kennedy in the pipeline. Stay tuned. Sneek preview: 50/50.

By: brrrrk on 8/31/09 at 1:12

Gee, you think this has anything to do with the fact that Jennifer Nettles said that she had no problems with the bands gay and lesbian fan base?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 4:15

Good morning tuesdat Sept. 1, 2009

I think The City Paper needs to get a new server.

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 5:02

Nemo, it's all id's fault.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 5:14

Hello house. What is going on with you tday?

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 5:15

What happen to my O in today?

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 5:29

Not much on my menu today.
Will we settle the Sugarland debate? I hope so.
I was checking the Tennessean web site yesterday. I saw Blanket's favorite over there.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 5:44

Yesterdays letter reminded me of just how silly people can be. I am not what you would call a Sugerland fan, but I don't think that they are as bad as Mary Greer thinks. I like their music.

Mary's letter sound more like a vandetta then honest criticism.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 5:46

Who is Blanket's favorite?

By: Kosh III on 9/1/09 at 6:02

What's the topic today? Bad servers?

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 6:11

Seeing that todays Pulitzer Prize edition of the TCP won't have a LTE, I suggest we all pony up and pitch in and buy this rag from whomever owns it. They put glossy paper on it recently, but omitted the LTE's. The Tennessean posting crowd are downright right wing-nuts who all have one common denominator...sleep with a handgun, bring it to the local bar and parks, and always vote Republican, as no matter who he sleeps with outside of marriage is of no concern. But preach family values, always.

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 6:16

Nemo: DY.
Didn't see you posting at the other paper, d7.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 6:26

d7, that about covers it.

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 6:29

d'pain: I'm a left -wingnut...never right.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/1/09 at 6:34

Well you certainly had me fooled dargent. lol

By: sidneyames on 9/1/09 at 6:36

There's not much Teddy hasn't been right about if you've been paying attention - Yeah, he was so RIGHT when he LEFT Mary Jo K. in that car to drown while he slept it off on the beach and had his cousins (kennedy's) come in and cover up the scene. It was 10 hours before he notified police. How RIGHT was that you dip whit know it all. He's a murderer and if it were any NORMAL citizen, they'd still be in jail. He also got caught for drunk driving. Is that right in your book? He was a partier and a run around on his wife. Ohhhhh! So right. Yeah, he did some good things but only to those who voted for him. Nationalized health care is not a good thing. The civil rights movement was and still is a good thing. But that was Martin Luther King and NOT Teddy the playboy Kennedy's doing. It was well under way when Ted head came on the scene. And his father's money bought him everything - not hard work. He was a party boy and I mean "boy" cause he never grew up to be a real man. A real man would have admitted he was at fault for killing that young girl.

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 6:43

Can any one fill me in to whom SidVicious is going off on? I think it's me, but I didn't write an editorial on Ted Kennedy. I guess that doesn't matter to a paranoid schizoid.

By: mythoughts on 9/1/09 at 6:48

I don't get it. How did everyone get off on these other topics when the editorial was about Sugarland? Anyway, I love them! They are one of my favorite groups. I think Jennifer and Christian both have wonderful voices and give their all to make "Sugarland" a great group! They sure do have a large fan base and sell out many concerts! We should be so fortunate.

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 6:59

Dunno, d7. How did Teddy feel about Sugarland? That's the real question.

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 7:00

MyThoughts: Obviously do not understand the nature of this blog.
Typically the editor runs the absolute lamest LTE they can find. One, maybe two posts respond to the LTE. Then it's a free-for-all, talking mostly about what's on sale at Big Lots and the unbelievable quality of pork shoulder at Kroger's.

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 7:02

d'pain: I know she hates gd and despises me and "tolerates" you, but who in the hell is she going after with that rant? There's no referrence point. (not that this paper ever has one).

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 7:08

She was the first to bring up Kennedy yesterday morning. Who knows?
Maybe she's still recovering from the weekend.

By: slacker on 9/1/09 at 7:13

dargent, I don't think sidney is enthralled with Cameltoe..opps, meant Camelot.
Teddy was at his best, making waitress sandwiches with Chris Dodd, those two wild and wacky cutups, knew how to have a good time..eh?

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 7:19

Slack: I never knew about this "waitress sandwich" business. Explain it to me. The last I remember about Uncle Ted was he and William Kennedy Smith at Au Bar.
But,...he lost 3 brothers and 2 sisters, plus 2 nephews.....I couldn't of handle it.

By: dargent7 on 9/1/09 at 7:20

...and his son lost a leg to cancer. Wife was an alcoholic. It never ended.

By: Loner on 9/1/09 at 7:23

Good morning, Nashville!

The server went down, as I was posting yesterday and it stayed down, In broadcasting, that's called "dead air" and no broadcaster would tolerate regular outtings lasting for several hours every time it happens. Why is the NCP so complacent about something as vital their server?

Maybe the Sugarland fan club hacked the site.

The LTE is exceedingly lame, but apparently durable. They don't publish my LTE's anymore; too strong, perhaps. Fluffy puff pieces or mindless carping seem to make the cut...the NCP may not want the reputation of being an "egg-head" newspaper with "big words" and complicated subject matter. That's OK, hey, they gotta survive in today's environment....but even so, they're going to need a reliable server, even if they are serving pablum.

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 7:23

His story would make a good country song...get Sugarland on the phone...

By: house_of_pain on 9/1/09 at 7:29

Loner, maybe the NCP thinks we've been 'over-served', and they had to cut us off.

By: CAH on 9/1/09 at 7:34

I chuckle as I think back a couple of years when bashing Bush was even more popular than it is now. During discussions about education, people on these pages bashed Bush because they said that the "No Child Left Behind Act" was such a boondoggle and actually degraded education. Bashed it until it was pointed out that Kennedy wrote the bill. Then is was a good thing.

Cracks me up! :-)

By: Loner on 9/1/09 at 7:38

Talk about democracy lite, even after nearly fifty years of rule by a single royal family, the politicians in Massachusetts are trying to circumvent the law and put Kennedy's widow in his seat, as an interim Senator. The upcoming special election short list includes the names of Edward Kennedy II and Joseph P. Kennedy III.

Let's face it, the Kennedy's were never small "d" democrats, they are oligarchs posing as benefactors - noble patricians working tirelessly for the oppressed plebians.

It seems that the GOP is cool with Kennedy's widow inheriting the seat - Orrin Hatch gave his blessing to this nepotistic solution to succession.

Dynastic democracy is alive and well in the USA; still, we have the chutzpah to believe that we have perfected the "democracy product" to the point of exporting it at swordpoint.

BTW, there will be six appointed Senators in the next Congress...6% of the Senate. Yeah, that's democracy lite.

By: BenDover on 9/1/09 at 7:40

I like Sugarland.

By: BenDover on 9/1/09 at 7:44

The Kennedy Curse was stupidity.
