More firepower
I wanted to voice my opinion for those against “guns in parks” to read. In fact, the opposite is true. I fully understand that many individuals think that allowing guns in public will make them less safe. It is not just the “guns in parks” issue, as it is, the general idea of public gun carry.
Even though Metro Council Member Sam Coleman was for the ban on guns in parks, he is now revisiting his opinion with the caveat that many portions of Metro’s parks have “secluded areas.” Now Coleman is considering an amendment.
Allowing gun permit holders to carry their firearms in parks will make the parks safer for all of us. There are many documented cases where gun permit holders have thwarted a “bad guy’s” intent to harm the general public. If the people that are opposed would just educate themselves about guns, I think they would change their minds.
It is not that these people are uneducated — just that they are not educated about gun permit holders. It is not just the general public that voices this opinion. The media is also to blame. The media oftentimes will ignore news stories that illustrate the good that gun permit holders contribute to the general public.
It must be said: “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It is not the law abiding gun permit holder that we need to be concerned about; it is the non-law abiding “bad guy” that is going to bring a gun to the park to commit some heinous crime. I, for one, would feel much more secure if I knew there were “good guys” carrying and could/would/should stop the “bad guys” from unleashing their violence on the general public.
When I see or hear of people against public gun carry, I know that these people are not educated about gun carry or they are just misinformed. I also know, they have never been confronted with one of these “bad guys” intent on perpetrating violence. Take some time and read a few articles about gun carry. It will open your eyes and change your mind.
For any of those readers that are interested, Google Massad Ayoob and read any of the articles that he has pinned. Ayoob is a very well respected self-defense expert.

Permit holders have less incidents of misuse of guns then cops.
I agree.
Was this letter scrawled with a crayon? This is one of the worst written LTE's offered in quite some time. I could faintly hear the familiar chords of "Deliverance" being plucked in the background, as I labored through this muddled conglomeration of platitudes. Apparently, there is no minimum IQ score needed in order to qualify for a gun carry permit....just squeal like a pig.

BenDover last post from last night.
BenDover, being born in 1966 does not keep one from being a bigot. Bigotry is a learned behavior.
Nemo, I just checked the National Bigot Registry, and there were no bigots born in 1966 or 1969.

I always thought that you hated cops. What is the matter id, did a cop give you a speeding ticket and now they must be killed?
Maybe some transplants who live here do not , or some that do , remember some of the grotesque murders in out secluded parks like Percy Warner and Edwin Warner and most of the recreation areas around both lakes . I think most of them could have been prevented if the victims had been armed.

Rush on air.
After hearing Obama's speech to our children yesterday, I just can't see how any Red Blooded American Parent stand around and let Obama brainwash our children. This is the time to stand up against socialism and get rid of this man.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the intent of the 2nd Ammendment was for a person to go around packing heat just in case some lunatic sneaks up behind him and cuts his throat. It was put in place so citizens could form militias. We did not have gangs, automatic weapons and cheap pistols backs then either.
I saw some dad on tv saying he didn't want his child coming home and turning into to some sort of community organizer. Of course, all these people they're showing on all the channels are a: from the south and b: wearing tank tops; and c: standing in from of Walmart or a giant truck.
Funditto, is your rookie still there?
Oh yes. And all this rain has made his hedges grow back rather quickly. He needs to take advantage of this beautiful and weather and give them a trim.
Funditto, you are correct, but the activist conservatives on the Supreme Court have forced their opinion onto the Constitution, making it now read as a near-absolute right to carry any type of gun anywhere: except around them.
I was in a "secluded area" of a Greenway over the weekend, wow was it dangerous! Those killer deer, rampaging turkeys and ferocious swarms of gnats. "run away! run away!"
Maybe you could offer to do that for him. Tell him you're from Welcome Wagon.
I was just wondering if he made the team. I guess he did.
Last February, a local man with a valid NYS pistol permit shot five people in one morinng of carnage. Four of the victims died. He was a disguntled employee who had been fired for sexual harassment at several local hospitals. The perp held one couple hostage for a few hours, tormenting them before killing them execution style. These were revenge killings committed by an otherwise hard-working, law-abiding gun owner. This is not an isolated case, many of these permit-holders are pillars of the community - until they snap.
"An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." -- Robert A. Heinlein
Thomas Jefferson once said, "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." The 2nd Amendment is what allows the 1st Amendment to remain. As long as there is a 2nd Amendment, government will fear the people.
My granddaughter did not get to watch Obama's speech, because her teacher chose not to allow her students to watch. IMO, this teacher was imposing her personal & probably political views on her students. Had the parent of said student chose this for their child, that would be their prerogative, not anyone else.
I was attact by a wild turkey once in a Metro Park. Lucky for me her baby got to her before she got to me.
Interesting poll on the front page. I'm not surprised by the results.
Nemo's "Wild Turkey" was in a bottle.
Not in a bottle lol
But it is true story.
I had walked up on this bird in the park and for some reason she did not try to get away for me like all I have seen in parks do. I thought it funny that she did not move until I distruped her young. They started yelling fot help and she came at me.
I thought for a moment that the Headlines would read- Locale Man Dies by Wild Turkey. That would not look good on a Headstone. 8-(
CAH, they're armed to the teeth in the Holy Land, but nobody is all that polite to each other there. Same goes for Liberia, Sudan, Afghanistan etc.....your theory is pure BS. Introduce a gun in Act 1, it will be fired before the final Act....that's a general rule in theater and sadly that's often true in real life as well. If you think that the government fears a few citizens with hand guns and rifles and therefore keeps itself in line, then you are one gullible dittohead. The government operates the army, navy and air force - your small arms cache and/or your church militia is no match for that kind of firepower; don't delude youself.
I was once rendered unconscious by a wild Irish rose. I believe the wild turkey story.
That greenway is spooky. There was some larger creatures lurking in the high grass. Don't want to think of what they were. I felt safer walking on West End.
I don't know rookie's status. Lot's of playa's going in and out of his house and working out in the yard. That's good enough for me.
The Head Line reads.

Locale man attack in park by Wild Turkey
Gun attivist say this would not have happen if the man had been permitted to carry a gun. That bird would have been on the table instead of running free raining havoc in our parks.
Guns don't kill people...turkeys do.
to chief and your cutted and pasted sites:
*SHUN*
Loner, I don't believe for one minute that our military would fire on citizens of their own country. They have sworn to uphold the Constitution and only obey lawful orders. I doubt they would see an order to fire as lawful with the political climate as it is.
Our country learned a lot from the War of Northern Aggression and won't allow that to happen again. Special elections would be held to recall those in government who don't do the people's will. Take away the guns and that option won't be available.

If they are going to put a tax on sodas, then they should take them off the list of approved foods for those who use the EBT cards!
And BTW, they should also disallow the people who get FDIC on the same cards the ability to purchase cigarettes on them as well!
After all, they are a sin to have!

I've been around quite a few "gun people" the last few
months and they all pretty much have one thing in common:
They're nice.
Not only that, they're even generally polite and respectful.
Vermont is rated the second safest state in the US.
They have a carry permit law that basically says,
"..buy a gun and wear it". Bad guys are mostly cowards
and don't like a fair fight. They realllllllllllllly don't like a fight that's
stacked in the good guy citizens' favor.
The bad guys like to hunt where the victims are unprotected.
Posting 'No Guns in this Park' only applies to the legal carry permit holder,
who, by his very nature, will respect and uphold the law.
It doesn't apply, and never will apply to the criminal, by the very
definition of "criminal".
Guess what ? Now the bad guys know which parks to hunt in.
I like this letter. It's from a person with a carry permit.
He might not be the "top form", experienced letter writer that
you are use to, Loner, but then again he doesn't have your sarcastic flair.
Happy 9-9-9 to you Funditto and kept speaking you First Amendment right! wink wink

panda the bad guys have always hunted any where they wanted twith out this law. Now they are permitted to carry.
Parks in Nashville were safe before this law came into effect. The question now will the parks which permitte guns be safer now?
