Letters to the Editor

Sorry seems to be the easiest word

All of a sudden, everyone is issuing and accepting "apologies."

Rep. Joe Wilson was the latest in a long string of mea culpas. "Gee, I'm sorry, so sorry", seems to be the flavor of the month.

Besides the obvious, like thinking on all cylinders before you act, the recepient of the insult has to accept, or they will be vilified as "cold and uncaring."

Kanye West's latest spectacle had him rip the microphone from Taylor Swift, who's all of 19, saying Beyonce should have won a recent award instead of her. Taylor had to accept his "apology," otherwise there'd be criticism of her.

West proceedes to go on Jay Leno's maiden voyage show, boosting his ratings, because everyone want's to see West "apologize." Swift goes on The View to publically announce, to a record audience's delight, she accepted West's apology and her record sales soar.

And certainly, the President has to accept anyone and everyone's apology, no matter what the infraction. It's all for show, ratings or guilt. Either way, it's a joke.

Good morning.

Kanye West is planing on interrupting Patrick Swayze's funreral and letting everyone know Michael Jackson had a better funeral.

Now why are so many being rude now a day. Could it be that the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly and others such ( I use the word entertainers loosely) have set in motion that it is cool to be rude.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/09 at 1:52

Which came first?

A chicken and an a egg are lying in bed. The chicken is leaning against the headboard, smokeing a cigarette with a satisfied look on it's face. The egg looks a bit tick off, grabs the sheet, rolls over and says....Well I guess we finally answer "THAT question!"

By: Kosh III on 9/17/09 at 5:55

Sadly, most of the time they don't even mean the apology, it's just an easy way to avoid responsibility for their no-class behavior.

Gee, why would Drugbaugh be responsible? Surely it's perfectly fine to use terms like "Hitlery" "feminazi" or "surrender monkey?" :(

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 5:59

K-3: I like the way Keith Obermann goes after Limbaugh. I'll let him do my heavy lifting.

By: BenDover on 9/17/09 at 6:20

Has Charlie Rangel appologized yet for his duppage of the IRS and the Electorate?

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 6:25

Just as soon as GW Bush comes on stage and admits he (actually) lost the 2000 election, but used his power, influence, friends, and daddy to steal it from Mr. Gore.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 6:28

Call me a cynic but I think the Kanye West thing was staged to give Leno ratings. Leno learned well from his ratings coup when he interviewed Hugh Grant. I just don't think you should really believe all you see on television.

Whether Taylor was in on the joke, who knows, but she has certainly reaped the benefits, hasn't she?

BTW, loved the President calling him a jackass. Classic.

By: Kosh III on 9/17/09 at 6:33

Ben
Has Rangel been indicted or convicted? When he is, expect this progressive to be critical.

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 6:34

Has George W. Bush apologized for selling out America for a dollar and a barrel of oil ?

Did his grandfather, Prescott Bush (executive bank director in 1943 in the U.S.A.), apologize for financing Hitler during World War II, even after the FBI arrested him as
a traitor ?

The true test of an apology is whether the person does the same thing again.
ConMan West has demonstrated that his word is worthless so his apologies mean
nothing...actually, they're insulting

By: Kosh III on 9/17/09 at 6:36

Hmmm, apparently the NCP has stopped paper publication entirely. Where is the story on here about that?

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 6:38

gia:
I just Googled that , and the president did say that about ConMan.

That's awesome ! I love it.

Correction to D7; when Taylor Swift was on the View, West had not called her YET. So she said on the show that 'if' he called her, she would talk with him. And then he called and she accepted his apology. NOT because it was staged and not because she wanted ratings. She accepted it because it is her character. She is a sweet, sincere person who was raised that way. And gdiafante, the prezident calling anyone a jackass is not classic; it is class-less; just what I would expect from a thug street organizer. Forgiveness is sort of like breathing in fresh air. If you don't forgive and harbor ill will, you'll die from it.

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 6:39

Kosh:
Are you sure ?
They just went to a glossy paper format recently.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 6:40

Speaking of Jackass, hello Sid.

By: slacker on 9/17/09 at 6:55

I actually saw a small steel ball, rolling around in the crevices, on Kanye West's head.

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 7:02

sidney,
you're suppose to read what you wrote before you hit the "Post Comment" button...

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 7:07

K-3...I got the hard copy on Monday. Today's only Thurs. They're haphazard. Probably deliver the copy later today or tomorrow.
Sid: Your fawning all over the "dear sweet, Christian angel" is getting tiresome and fake. Don't you like Hannah Montana posing semi-nude with her father?

"The most obvious, first of all: you're not going to see the paper until tomorrow. As the City Paper puts out its final Thursday issue in the a.m.--grab it, it's a collectible--the Scene from now on will hit the streets on Thursday instead of Wednesday"

This coming from a arrogant old beech ball...that that is funny.

By: Funditto on 9/17/09 at 7:15

why do i get the feeling that syd is only defending kanye because the president is against him? yes, she's that biased.

By: Funditto on 9/17/09 at 7:18

I hope NCP will go back to printing a daily. Now that the Tennessean is sinking fast, they have a niche. If they invest in delivery and amp up their advertising sales teams, I am certain they would be number one all around.

By: Dragon on 9/17/09 at 7:32

It doesn't matter that Obama called West a jackass. What matters is that it was "off the record" but immediately twittered by ABC and reported around the country.

I guess "off the record" means nothing to the MSM. They are classless.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 7:39

Nothing is "off the record" anymore Dragon.

By: house_of_pain on 9/17/09 at 7:46

Strictly off the record: I hope that West fella never sells another album.

By: Funditto on 9/17/09 at 7:47

But is FOX had reported it - it would have been NEWS! Right?

By: Dragon on 9/17/09 at 7:48

West should have been bodily thrown out the door and into the gutter. Instead, he gets lots and lots of press and probably helps his image with his fans.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 7:55

Actually Dragon, he was kicked out of the awards after that. But not before twittering a half-assed apology.

Like I said, I thought it was a PR stunt anyway, so the media, in keeping with their imaging of being brain-dead, celebrity obsessed morons, complied.

By: BenDover on 9/17/09 at 7:56

You or I would be in Jail right now, Kosh.

By: house_of_pain on 9/17/09 at 7:57

I'd like to officially apologize for my last post. I'm sorry. Really.

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 7:58

I'm gonna have to agree with Dragon on this one.

By: chakracon on 9/17/09 at 7:59

The only joke around here, d'argent, are your pompous postings and letters. Why don't you get another "job."

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 8:00

Wait, House, you'll get your chance in a minute, I just want to say that Funditto had the best post of the year BY FAR, that's all I'm saying.

Now where the @!&$ is my Cognac?

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 8:00

house:
How can we believe you ? You just keep repeating the same
behavior over and over again.

...I'm telling your mama...

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 8:03

I have to admit, I've come to like Dargent's posts. His LTE's leave something to be desired...he should talk about things that matter, like Mattew Stafford's favorite coloring book or discussing what species of life Dave Babcock's hair is...but his posts are agreeable.

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 8:08

ChakraCon: Ha! My postings may be "pompous", but the letters are dead on.
Why don't you show us all how intelligent, careful, PC, you are and write one? Instead you shoot off your mouth at me who is least trying. Heaven know's this paper could use a larger gene pool.

........................................................................................................................................................

Will there be an appology coming for this?

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 8:10

gd: I'm actually more interested in how many members of The Jefferson Airplane Grace Slick slept with.

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 8:12

Cpt. Nemo: And just for a change of pace, I'm not accepting it.

By: house_of_pain on 9/17/09 at 8:13

d7, the answer is: none.
But she did sleep with every member of Jefferson Starship.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 8:13

Darg: that would be all...and Janis Joplin...and most of San Francisco...in 1967 she was hot though...have you seen her now? Yikes.

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 8:14

Well, maybe not Marty Palin...I think he always resented her...but you never know, it was the summer of love...

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 8:15

Excuse, me, Marty Balin...lol

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/09 at 8:15

Cpt. Nemo: And just for a change of pace, I'm not accepting it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this case I want either.

By: house_of_pain on 9/17/09 at 8:16

Yeah, "the summer of love"...even her crabs had herpes.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/17/09 at 8:24

Now there is a picture, house.

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 8:26

house, you're such a romantic :)

By: gdiafante on 9/17/09 at 8:28

1967 was a great year. You had the Doors, Sgt Pepper...and it was the last time the Maple Leafs won the cup...sigh

By: dargent7 on 9/17/09 at 8:30

Now "House"...that Yale lab tech was just arrested for killing that grad student Annie Le. Aren't you a lab tech?
And gd, I agree....Slick was awesome in the 60's. Now, she looks like my grandmother.....who died 20 years ago.
I always liked the lead guitarist in Airplane..."C" something....sunglasses, bandana, stance,...very cool.
But, in Detroit, all we had was Mitch Ryder and Ted Nugent to look up to, so go figure. Bob Seger was alright though.

By: pandabear on 9/17/09 at 8:31

...free love, vietnam......sigh

By: house_of_pain on 9/17/09 at 8:32

The 'Summer of Love' was immediately followed by the 'Autumn of Awkward Silence',
and the 'Winter of Whoa-look-at-the-time-I-gotta-go'.
