National clean-up

We’ve been watching the documentary about the national parks on NPT. It is truly one of the most inspirational and informative shows on television.

They call the parks America’s best idea — to save and preserve these magnificent natural monuments for everyone, forever. But they also tell what it took to keep these places from being destroyed by people who wanted to cut down the sequoias, kill all the buffalo and dynamite the waterfalls.

It makes you think how fast we have to move to keep things from being used up — like our mountains being blown up for coal and what that’s done to towns in east Tennessee. It took a lot of regular Americans insisting to Congress that they didn’t want the Smokies logged and mined, and it seems like we’re going to have to get together and do the same thing right now if we’re ever going to get clean energy ways to run the country without ruining our rivers and hills.

Sen. [Lamar] Alexander seems to want to move in the right direction, maybe Sen. [Bob] Corker too — but nothing’s going to happen to clean it up if we don’t let them know we want it now.

I saw a guy on the Animal Planet channel last night that had a leech in his right nostril. I bet that was pretty gross!

Also saw where a new very large diamond was found in an African mine recently. I think it was over 500 carats and nearly flawless.

As some of you know, I recently took a trip to Colorado. While there, my wife and I drove up into Wyoming, to Cheyenne and across to Laramie. There are wind farms everywhere just crankin' away. On top of that, the Denver airport is now using solar panels to power the underground that they use to shuttle people from one terminal to another. People like id, sid, and chief.... you're wrong. And your inability to step into the future, in all ways, will eventually destroy this country.
**********************************************************************

Did you enjoy the view?

How about putting them in the Federal parks.

Greater Toronto has a solar farms that supply electricity to 12,500 homes (out of one million) when it is shining and takes up 300 football fields.

Good eh?

gdiafante, he retrieved it. I saw him holding it with both hands when he went down to the sidelines to ''rally the boys''.
He probably wants to be buried with that booger.

By: gdiafante on 9/30/09 at 9:33

That's a start id, and it's better than sitting on your brains complaining about any progress.

By: gdiafante on 9/30/09 at 9:36

Nah, that was a Lombardi trophy replica. I wouldn't expect any Titans fans to know what they look like though, so I'll give you a pass on that one.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/30/09 at 9:38

Rooftops on city buildings would be better place for collecting solor energy. However id would mostly seat on it and call it a waste of money.

By: slacker on 9/30/09 at 9:43

no..no gdiafante, that object was much to large to be the Lombardi trophy.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:43

wow, sorry that i'm late to the party.

house, no i haven't read that book. i'll check it out.

loner, sorry for your loss.

g, sorry to see you channeling chief. that has to be painful!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:44

house, you need to create a bumper sticker that says "have you clubbed your wife today?"

By: gdiafante on 9/30/09 at 9:44

Slacker: replica...

Personally, I'd like to see Ware punch JJ into next week every time he hits the sidelines.

Does anyone have a brainwashing machine that will make an owner step down as GM and hire someone who is capable?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:45

oops, what bad manners have i! let me respond to the LTE.

yes, i've been watching the series (i love Ken Burns' work). John Muir was way ahead of his time. John Muir Woods north of san francisco is one of my favorite places of all time.

By: gdiafante on 9/30/09 at 9:45

Blanket, i'm not sure which is more painful...passing stones or channeling Chief...

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:46

*snort* now that's funny, g!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:46

g, does channeling chief hurt your backside?

By: gdiafante on 9/30/09 at 9:49

It's sort of like a seizure...I start shaking, knuckles drag the floor and I poop myself. I think that's so I can be exactly like Chief at that moment.

By: Dragon on 9/30/09 at 9:49

Hey Chief - check this out.

High Court to Rule on Local Handgun Laws
The question of whether the Second Amendment only applies to the federal government and federal enclaves like the District is one that was not addressed in the decision in Heller v. District of Columbia.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/09/30/AR2009093001723.html?hpid=topnews

Unfreeking believable !!! To even suggest that the Bill of Rights or the rest of the amendments can be violated by individual states and municipalities is insane. Thanks goodness the USSC is still majority conservative.

By: slacker on 9/30/09 at 9:50

Hey brrrrk, I just recently returned from Arizona. As you know they have an abundance of sunny days. Are solar panels being utilized there?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:51

g, that is too funny! is it followed with a tourrette's-like spewing of right wing talking points?

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:51

wait, wait, wait - do a bunch of internet links fall out your a$$?

Captain Nemo said

Funny you should mention that.... the German government has a program in place that gives home owners low interest loans so that they can install solar panels on their houses. Any additional energy created can be sold back to the grid to aid the home owner in making their monthly payment. Once the panels are paid for... all proceeds from the additional energy created goes directly into the hands of the home owner. As a result, Germany has not had to build the several power plants that they had estimated they would have needed at this point AND Germany is now one of the leading producers and exporters of solar technology.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 9:59

Nemo, more like an exorcism than an intervention.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 10:00

brrrrk, that sounds too much like right. lol

By: gdiafante on 9/30/09 at 10:00

Oh no...here comes another one...

Thank God almighty that, in his infinite wisdom, he appointed George W. Bush as Commander In Chief for eight glorious years. Years of financial ruin, but two wonderful military actions that I, being in the National Guard, had the great privilege of being involved with. And though my juniors attempted to "frag" me several times, they failed and now I can spend my days searching the internet for useless links.

By: house_of_pain on 9/30/09 at 10:02

My penmanship is better than that, Blanket, but it does resemble my work.

By: Captain Nemo on 9/30/09 at 10:02

There are many ways to deal with energy.

On the other hand there is the tried a true idgaf method. Don't do a thing and complain.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 9/30/09 at 10:15
