Letters to the Editor

What's a picture worth?

Just curious... You did a story about a woman [Lou Ann Zelenik] running against Congressman Bart Gordon, but instead of putting her picture up, you put his up?

Was the story about him, or her?  Very interesting.

Maybe they didn't have a picture of her. If the story was about her running against Gorden I guess it was used properly if they didn't have her picture.

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 4:17

Wow! Our 1st brain teaser LTE. Yeah, it was very puzzling. Not quite as puzzling as to why TCP ran this letter.

By: house_of_pain on 10/7/09 at 4:56

Maybe she's not "camera friendly".
I can't believe this is the featured LTE.
Wait, is this her photo on the Baker Donelson ad?

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 5:24

"House": OK, I'll order two fruitcakes. (must take delivery before Chunakkua) But, this time, tell granny to go easy on the lead and cadium.

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 5:42

Good morning, Nashville!

This is an LTE? Seems like the editors could have just issued an explanation for the confusion.

Yeah, fruitcake is more interesting than this "LTE".

It's raining here and my new roof isn't leaking, my old hound dog is napping at my feet, I'm sipping a cappuccino....life is good.

By: Funditto on 10/7/09 at 5:49

It's a conspiracy by the liberal msm. They're using subliminal photography to get us all behind Bart.

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 5:54

Loner: You sound like a Norman Rockwell painting. It almost brought a tear to my eye. But, is the shotgun drapped across your lap or leaning aginst the wall?

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 5:58

The shotgun is always next to the front door, I keep a machete near the backdoor, Paul.

By: Funditto on 10/7/09 at 5:59

Any predictions on how the right wingers will react to Metro schools giving the H1N1 vaccine to everyone for free?

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 6:11

Lone: Where's the sax? ( I want to complete my mental picture of the painting).

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 6:17

The squalene scare, Funditto? It seems that the fringe right and the fringe left agree on that one...it's a government plot to thin the herd and gain control over every aspect of our lives. Whacky stuff.

I listened to the Sonshine Network yesterday afternoon, a local Christian AM station. Some pistol-packing knucklehead by the name of Pastor Butch was taking calls from across the fruited plain. These people hate Obama's guts and they're buying bullets and beans. It's only a matter of time before one of these psychos gets through the shielding surrounding the President.

Biden is stoking the pressure on the top side, he's sucking up to the War Lobby, presenting himself as a better alternative to Obama. Pressure at the top and pressure from the bottom....Obama's days may be numbered.

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 6:27

Which one, Darge? I own five or six of them. The baritone sax (an old Martin) is on its stand, the others are in their cases. I've been busking with a wooden Peruvian flute lately; it's compact, uses no reeds and in the right acoustic setting it sounds great. I like to play that flute wherever there's an echo - stairwells, empty gyms, empty silos, shopping malls (away from the loudspeakers), churches too. The flute is limited in what it can do, but within its compass, it is very effective...chicks dig the flute.

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 6:49

Loner: Remember in the 70's when Paul Winter played the flute in the Egyptian pyramids? Talk about an echo chamber. You remember the 70's don't you...when we were young and good looking. Well, young.

I guess even Hollywood is feeling the economic woes of the country.

First, the state of California has trouble paying it's bills, now Illinois. This is an improving economy???

I remember the 70's, but I missed the Paul Winter album, I'll check into it, thanks.

WTF?! Is this a new NCP format, or am I in the twilight zone? No borders between comments? Very confusing. Why fix what isn't broken?

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 7:07

I don't know what just happened, the board looks normal now...where's my meds?

Chicago wanted the Olympics, but the city and state are strappped for cash? Where was the investment money supposed to come from...the mob?

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 7:11

I just had a thought (nightmare). Rush Limbaugh is shopping for a NFL team. Looking at the St. Louis Rams, who stink worse than the Titans. They are 5-31 since 2007. What if "Bud" was looking to sell and Limbaugh bought the Titans?
Can you think of a worse senario?

By: Kosh III on 10/7/09 at 7:12

Not having a photo on file is no excuse. If she has a website already, one should be there or they could have emailed or called and had a jpeg sent. It happens all the time.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 7:12

Loner,

"Chicago wanted the Olympics, but the city and state are strappped for cash? Where was the investment money supposed to come from...the mob?"

Careful Loner! Such things are not discussed...in the open! LOL

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 7:14

Dargent,

"What if "Bud" was looking to sell and Limbaugh bought the Titans?"

LOL Now that is FUNNY!

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 7:16

They're talking about labelling California, the Golden State, a "failed state". Right there, with Liberia, Sudan, Guinea and Afghanistan.

Maybe, if enough states fail, the union itself will unravel. The national debt would be gone along with the IRS, the CIA, Homeland Security, Social Security, the Postal Service and the FBI. The federal armed forces would disband, the War Lobby would have to find honest work and Israel would have to finally settle its differences with its neighhbors. The UN might fold w/o US support and NATO would probably dissolve.

And then comes the bad part....

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 7:23

Loner,

"And then comes the bad part...."

Wow...and all that came before isn't the bad part???

By: Kosh III on 10/7/09 at 7:23

A quick googling finds her facebook page and her photo.

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 7:33

That was subtle sarcasm, Chief...too subtle, it appears.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 7:37

Loner,

I was making a joke, Loner.

By: house_of_pain on 10/7/09 at 7:51

By: slacker on 10/7/09 at 7:55

Who is the Peruvian flute player on first?

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 7:56

Slacker,

Is Who a GOOD flute player?

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 7:59

I had to log in several times this morning, thought I was banned. I called the NCP, they said I was still a member....for now.

House, please, I hated those two clowns... I never saw the humor in their schtick. Of course, few here see the "humor" in a lot of my posts. That's understandable, my comedic license expired.

By: slacker on 10/7/09 at 7:59

No..no.. chief, what is, and he's on second.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/7/09 at 7:59

i heard Dragon likes to play the flute.

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 8:01

I knew it, Slacker comes in with A&C schtick.....aaaaarrrgghhh. It brings the pirate out in me.

By: house_of_pain on 10/7/09 at 8:03

Not the flute, Blanket...Doug Flutie...I'll admit the difference is only obvious at
an atomic level.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 8:04

Kosh,

Nashville was 19 and Memphis was 51? But...from what I am told by Memphis people, THEY are the smartest people in Tennessee and we Nashvillians are just hicks.

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 8:06

I should have kept me flute playing to meself...now the flute humor....aaarrrggghhh!!

I'm grabbin' me machete, ye swabs! Avast! I'll be takin' no prisoners...

By: Kosh III on 10/7/09 at 8:12

chief,

That only proves how stupid they are in Memphis. :)

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 8:19

Kosh,

Good Point! LOL

By: house_of_pain on 10/7/09 at 8:34

Do people actually live in Memphis? If so, why?
Please limit your responses to 150 words or less.

By: slacker on 10/7/09 at 8:37

Personally, I think it was the Nashville Auto Diesel college, that pushed Nashville up into the top 20 smart cities.
The students are awarded Rubik's Cubes at graduation.

By: slacker on 10/7/09 at 8:41

pain, Elvis was planning on leaving Memphis, and moving to Colorado, but then he had that unfortunate toilet incident.

By: Funditto on 10/7/09 at 8:43

less

By: house_of_pain on 10/7/09 at 8:47

Good answer, Fun.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/7/09 at 8:53

House,

I have family who live in Memphis...and they would be happy to leave if they could...unfortunately, that isn't an option right now for them.

By: Loner on 10/7/09 at 8:55

I left a rant on the peace movement article in today's City Voices. DNewton and Tony Gottlieb left some droppings that needed responding to.

By: dargent7 on 10/7/09 at 8:57

Saying Nashville is smarter than Memphis, is like saying Larry was the dumb one in The Three Stooges.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/7/09 at 8:58

Good morning.

It seem that Obama's approvel rating is going up once more.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/7/09 at 9:11

The driver are worst in Memphis.

By: house_of_pain on 10/7/09 at 9:13

Be careful, d7...most of the people here now are from other countries...
like Michigan, for example.
