Letters to the Editor

This should clear things up

I believe I have the inside track on whether or not President Obama decides to send an additional 40,000 troops to Afghanistan. He just won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. If Obama was wavering, this should clear things up for him.

Still smarting from losing the Olympic Games in 2016, this win should give him a kick in the pants.

Joining Jimmy Carter and Al Gore — not bad company and not a bad consolation prize.

So, just how can a "Peace Prize" winner commit to more warfare and bloodshed? Seems to be an impossibility.

Good morning.

Verbal Cartoon

Christopher Columbus plants a flag on the beach and claims the land for Spain.

Two natives looking at the event turns to each other ans says, "There goes the neighborhood.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/13/09 at 3:23

I'm so sure that the Nobel Peace Prize will make that much of a differance for Obama's decision to leave Afghanistan. Leaving now would mean that the terrorist would set up their training camps once more. Parkistan and its arsenal of nukes would be next door to an outlaw country of religous fanatics.

I think leaving would be a mistake.

By: idgaf on 10/13/09 at 4:39

7 I don't know (and neither does barry) at this point what he is going to decide but he should make a decision quicker then in a few weeks.

I am of the opinion that he either goes all out to win or put his/our tail between our legs and pull out and stop wasting American lives.

You know he is in trouble when Fienstein says send in the troops and the far left wants him to pull out.

Time to make an executive decision.

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 4:47

Good morning, Nashville!

The LTE's are back...I thought that maybe Sid's tantrum would result in their cancellation. Once again, Paul D'Argent scores.

Obama is not going to change his behavior, just because he won this silly prize. The War Lobby, not the Nobel Committee, calls the tune and our President, like all presidents before him, dances to that tune...or else.

Now that the UN's Goldstone Report is back on the agenda, Obama will get an early opportunity to disappoint the remaining hopeful voters and to reassure the War Lobby that he has mind right. By letting Israel off the hook for its war crimes in Gaza, Obama reveals his true nature - he is a hopeless lackey and a phony baloney.

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 5:12

NATO is getting cold feet in Afghanistan, our allies are calling it quits, eight years is enough. It's a long way from the North Atlantic to Kabul.

The sympathy and good will that the US enjoyed after 9-11 was squandered by the neocons and the backlash has taken its toll. One by one, the US has managed to piss off our friends in the region and slowly, but surely, the Taliban has reconstituted itself. I blame Junior Bush, Cheney and Rummy for the debacle, git a rope!

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 5:22

Looks likw we're back in busineess, boys & girls.
Whether you view the Nobel "Peace" Prize as "silly" or worhtless, they also reward Literature, Chemistry, Physics, Education.
I just can't see Obama agreeing with McKrystol and give him the 40,000 troops before the ink has dried on the award and he's made his acceptance speech.
The entire world exhaled and sighed with relief when that cowboy & Co. vacated the White House.
Obama can wear that medal around town and look like rapper "Flavor Flav".

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 5:28

Loner & Gd: I found this clip on You Tube that will blow your minds. It's John Lennon interviewed by Mick Jagger before he, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchel play Lennon's "Yer Blues". The quality is A-1. Keith actually looks to be alive! Just enter "YerBlues" in the You Tube box and it'll drop down several choices.....hit the "John Lennon" line. Let me know.

If the Prize were awarded for fear, racism and hate, Republicans would have won hands down. But it wasn't. Instead, they blame Obama for what the committee choose to do. Why can't they be happy for our country for winning this honor? Would they rather continue to be hated by the rest of the world? Looks that way to me.

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 5:59

Fund-O: I agree. "Turn it down" is the Repubs chant. That's how much hatred they have for this president. It transcends the hatred I had for Bush, this is more visceral.
Politics is all about appearances, and Obama snubbing the Nobel commitee's decision is demonstrating just how crazy they are.

By: Kosh III on 10/13/09 at 6:00

"Would they rather continue to be hated by the rest of the world? "
-----------------
They don't care about being hated, just feared. The Imperialists think everyone else is inferior to them(including most Americans) and should bow to their will.

I compose a post, submit it, then I go from logged in to logged out and the post goes, Poof! What's up? Is there a purge looming?

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 6:10

D, my old system won't handle the U-tube...C drive needs an E-nema.

Lone: With all your successful albums and royalities pouring in? Get a new computer...WalMart...$395.

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 6:22

Lawyers plucked my plumage, D7. Talk about yer blues...baby, I done paid my dues. Buddy, can you spare $2.50 for a cappuccino?

By: Schuss on 10/13/09 at 6:23

The Nobel people ought to be ashamed of themselves. BO was nominated after only 2 WEEKS in office. So the Peace Prize was presented on mere speculation.

This just in!!! Obama wins the Heisman Trophy after watching a college football game!!

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 6:28

Loner said: The LTE's are back...I thought that maybe Sid's tantrum would result in their cancellation. Once again, Paul D'Argent scores.

Here is my ORIGINAL letter on the matter: sidneyames on 10/8/09 at 6:01
Steve McNair did not respect his marriage; did not respect his children. If he did, he would not have been trolling for little girl trophies. He made his bed; he laid in it and he died in it. His wife is lucky that the trollup didn't track her down and kill both her and the kids. I wish the murderer had lived. She would be eventually on DEATH row for premeditated murder and she would have to think about it in an 8'x6' box daily with 23 hours in and 1 hour out. I may sound cruel, but she took the life of a father. Regardless of how bad he was, his kids still needed him to stick around and be there (even if it was on and off). Kids need their mom and dad. And he did do a lot of benevolent things for society. Maybe it balances out. Who's to say? Parents need to wake up and be more considerate of their kids' lives.

Here is the "cut and pasted" letter to editor that I DID NOT SEND:
Letters to the Editor Friday, October 9, 2009 at 1:31am
McNair let his kids down

AND I'm going to re-post this EVERY day until the CP clears up why it got "edited" and posted as Letter to Editor.

And if you people can't figure out by the dates, that I did not submit it, you can't read.

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 6:29

My guess is that D7 sent it in. He's slick enough to pull that stunt, I hear!

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 6:30

The Norwegians claim it was a joint decision...they smoked a joint and made their decision.

By: Funditto on 10/13/09 at 6:32

If you bothered to read the fine print, Syd you'd see that all publications reserve the right to edit submissions.

By: Kosh III on 10/13/09 at 6:33

That does seem a breach of journalism ethics to do that.

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 6:33

Sid, give it a rest. If the NCP drops this feature, due to your belly-aching, we'll all have to get a life....nobody wants that, right?

By: Schuss on 10/13/09 at 6:35

Paul, that's a fantastic video!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjrbbRm5W8g

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 6:42

Sid, the edit was not severe, the NCP cut out your fantasy - McNair's killer in a tiny jail cell for life. Accusing D7 of chicanery here is goofy. You got an LTE published, be satisfied with that and own up to it, like a woman.

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 6:42

So Loner until D7 apologizes to me, I'm going to re-print this every day. No I did not know they had the RIGHT TO Submit under my name and zip code. So when have they done it in the past? Give me some examples. And I don't care if CP drops this feature.

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 6:47

Sid sez, "I don't care if CP drops this feature."

Sid, you are an ingrate and you are violating the spirit of the TOS...if you spam this site, as you promised to do, the NCP will have the right to ban you, IMO.

We love you, Sid....don't rock the boat.

By: Kosh III on 10/13/09 at 6:48

I DO care if they drop this feature.

What you should do is write a Letter to the Editor about it.

Now let's talk about something important: what is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 6:50

I only want letters to the editor that I ACTUALLY WROTE being published. I'm not like D7 - wanting my name at the top of the page every day. I only want serious letters to the editor posted under my name. AND me wanting that woman to be alive is not a fantasy. If she had lived, then she could pay for what she did to a family. That was my point. She got off easy.

By: slacker on 10/13/09 at 6:54

Kosh, that depends upon the beverage. Remember: Liquor before beer... your in the clear.

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 6:59

And I am looking for the disclaimer that states in "fine print" that someone can re-write my posts on this paper. Where is it? You said it was in the "fine print" so where is it?

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 7:00

Is it in the Sudoku puzzle?

By: Loner on 10/13/09 at 7:01

Sid, D7 doesn't owe you an apology, IMO. Go and enjoy some herb tea...you are beating a dead horse. Nobody likes horse beaters.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/13/09 at 7:13

-----------------------------------------------------------------

There will be another letter for me to flush down the toilet every day.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/13/09 at 7:20

It does not matter which version was printed, sid you are still a DOSAB.

By: rldavenport@com... on 10/13/09 at 7:25

Grow up, Funditto. It's liberal Democrats like you who are guilty of hasty generalizations and other lies. It's liberals who spread fear and hatred ALL the time with their lies and manufactured crises. It's liberals who play the race card and divide this country racially. Republicans don't hate anyone...we just vigorously disagree with many policies and political tactics of liberal Democrats. Liberal Democrats, especially politicians in that category, have a hard time telling the truth, especially when they disagree with someone. They twist people's comments and they even accuse other people of behavior of which they, in reality, are guilty in order to deflect criticism away from themselves. It's undeniable, Funditto.

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 7:25

Where's Rod Serling?
Sid"Vicious": You have demonstated many times you are "nuts". Floating upstream, without a rudder.
We all got the "message". TCP "lifted" your Editorial/comment and put it in the "Letters" section, all by design and mistake.
Oh, buy the way, my LTE today was printed in The Tennessean Sat. Obviously, TCP hijacked it, cut 'n paste the sucker, and spliced it here. I have several calls into upper mgt. Those TCP executives don't know who they're messin' with!

By: sidneyames on 10/13/09 at 7:26

Don't know what DOSAB is and don't care. D7 does owe me an apology Loner. Don't care if you don't like horse beaters. I don't like horse crap and re-making my letter was horse crap.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/13/09 at 7:36

sid, no on else gives a big damn, okay? let it go.

By: house_of_pain on 10/13/09 at 7:40

Since I'm the one with an animal husbandry certification, any horse beating should be handled by me, thank you.

"Grow up, Funditto. It's liberal Democrats like you who are guilty of hasty generalizations and other lies. It's liberals who spread fear and hatred ALL the time with their lies and manufactured crises."----This is from Hand Book on how to be a Neo Con Dummy.

It's liberals who play the race card and divide this country racially. Republicans don't hate anyone...we just vigorously disagree with many policies and political tactics of liberal Democrats.----The Limbaugh mantra.

Liberal Democrats, especially politicians in that category, have a hard time telling the truth, especially when they disagree with someone. They twist people's comments and they even accuse other people of behavior of which they, in reality, are guilty in order to deflect criticism away from themselves.---The enemy of of the USA has been useing the tactic for as long as I can remeber. It is how they took over the GOP and turned it into the RAT party.

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 7:49

Ames: When you're in a hole, stop digging. The CPT DOES have the right to edit "Letters". They edit mine all the time. So what?
What in God's name am I'm going to "apologize" to you for?
The only person on this silly board I owe any type of apology to is "House". I said once he's in charge of "Animal Husbandry". He liked the title and it stuck.

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 7:52

Schuss: I know. It's amazing. Mick Jagger looks kinda handsome, lips and all.

sid, no on else gives a big damn, okay? let it go.

Just like the little man, sid's physic is in another demension. Maybe the two have become intertwined in their passage from one demension to the other.

By: MamaG on 10/13/09 at 7:55

Life is too short to waste time being angry.

Funditto on 10/13/09 at 7:32
If you bothered to read the fine print, Syd you'd see that all publications reserve the right to edit submissions.

OK fun-ditto, WHERE is the fine print? You are so quick to quote, so back up your statement. WHERE is the fine print located? After I read it, I'll stop squeeking about it. BUT you know it all's keep saying things without backing them up. WHERE is the fine print?

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 8:10

This is getting out of hand. Could somebody put a muzzel on this bit*ch?
She's going to have TCP pull the "Letters" section with all her accusations and pending lawsuits.
Anybody know her, personally?
Talk some sense into her brain-dead cranium, and I mean fast.
Like K-3, I enjoy this "chat room". It would be a shame to loose it due to some nit-wit, fly off the handle, lifeless freak.
Somebody, please get on it.

Nobel Prize for Obama Backfires

http://www.newsmax.com/kessler/obama_nobel_peace_prize/2009/10/10/270826.html

By: girliegirl on 10/13/09 at 8:45

All things considered here... folks, it's just ... creepy...... no, really...think about it. If journalism has sunk to the level that "it" can freely "edit" a letter written/submitted by another individual.... Whoa~ This paper could interject all sorts of nasty things, and no one would be the wiser. Darjent7 could suddenly be credited with submitting glowing reviews and loving thoughts of the Republican Party. :-)

By: Blanketnazi2 on 10/13/09 at 8:46

this is nothing new. LTE have been edited as far back as i can ever recall.

By: dargent7 on 10/13/09 at 8:57

Can we get off of this? Ames is "nuts". She needs an intervention. This rag ain't the Wall Street Journal or New York Times. It's a chat room.
Threats of lawsuits, complaints, phone calls, accusations, malefesence. It's down to one LTE a day now. Want none?
Any wonder why the majority of Americans refer to "the south" as a bunch of red-neck hillbillies? I wonder why.

By: Funditto on 10/13/09 at 8:58

Syd, I've been in the newspaper for 20 years. You wouldn't believe some of the poorly written trash that comes through. Editing is necessary. NCP does it much less than others, but they do. Mostly to fit (when it's printed).
