Sophisticated cars need smart legislation
The Tire Industry Association strongly urges Congress to pass the Motor
Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act (HR 2057) to ensure that car owners
and their trusted repair shops have the same access to safety alerts and
repair information as the franchised new car dealer network.
Vehicles are more sophisticated than ever before with virtually every
system either monitored or controlled by computers. In fact, most new
vehicles are equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) that
are controlled by computers.
TPMS systems do not replace regular maintenance on tires, but rather are
intended to protect motorists from the dangers of operating a vehicle
with underinflated tires. Without ready access to complete and accurate
information from the car companies regarding the vehicles they produce,
it is very difficult to keep TPMS systems activated and in safe working
condition.
Send a letter to each of your congressional representatives urging them
to support the Right to Repair Act (HR 2057) so that all American
motorists have full access to all the repair information for the vehicle
which they purchased, new or used, so that they can choose where, how
and by whom their vehicle is repaired.

Good morning.
As someone who does a drives a lot, I have to make sure that my car ins in the best shape it can be in. The proper tires inflation and depth of tire tread are keys to keeping and the car on the road.
As for this bill I have not heard anything about until now. I will have to read it before commenting.
From yesterday
slacker wants to know if I am a numbers runner. No I am not, but I do watch NUMBERS ever friday night at 9 o'clock on channel 5.
house thinks I am a cleaner. What is that?
I have a GM car. I wouldn't go to an American dealership for a candy bar much let them touch my car. I always go to independent repair shops. I never rely on TPMS or oil change lights, either.
MamaG hates the swing bridge.
So did my wife. We walked the trail from the big falls to the nature center. When we got to the swing bridge I discovered that she had a phobia of swing bridges.
I convinced her to close her eyes and hold on to my belt as I guided her across. We started across slowley at first but a man and his Gremany Shepard came up behind us. The dog kept trying to pushing pass us. The dog hated swing bridges too.
I hah tp walk back to the car alone and then drove back to the nature center to get her.
Cpt. "N": You're more like a "Cooler". Those guys who "chill" out winning players in Vegas playing at the Blackjack table.
I have got the same mechanic for the past 25yrs
dargent is that a good thing?
It's a movie, starring William H. Macy and Alec Baldwin (the only normal Baldwin bro.). Rent it, "The Cooler". I don't know what a cleaner is, either.
A cleaner is someone who rehabs people. There's a show starring Benjamin Bratt.
I think Nemo's a Closer.
OK, Cpt, which is it? You a "closer", "cleaner", or a "cooler"?
The last time I looked I was still me.
This letter is a form letter from Maryland (obviously a lobbyist). NCP shouldn't post these, IMO. It's unpaid advertising.
A "cleaner" is someone employed by mafia types to make problems "disappear".
According to A & E, it's an extreme interventionist.
Hey, that 6 year old kid who brought a Cub Scout "utensil" to school and was facing a 45 day "reform school" detention...has been allowed to come back. These "superintendents" of school systems, and Zero tolerance laws, are brain-dead.
TPMS Is a Gross waste of money considering how few tire failures happen today .
We need cheaper cars not more expensive ones filled with gizmos. Consumers shouldn't be forced to pay for something that has such infrequent benifit overall.
There are black boxes in cars (that we pay for) WHY? They never even made that public before they started doing it and many don't know they are there today.
This is what is so scary about the government taking over health care. Abortions are fine but cancer or other (expensive) medicine is not if you are beyond a certain age.
Government needs to get out of our lives and stop trying to micro manage us.
This must be a good thing then if id is against it.
Leave it to ID to politicize car tires.
A&E is either woefully out of touch, or they don't want to promote that image.
A character in "Pulp Fiction", Mr. Wolf, is a perfect example of a "cleaner".
d'pain: You're right. Harvey Kietel was right on. Tarrantino knows his stuff.
Zero tolerance laws have zero common sense.
That same school district (Delaware) expelled a 6 year old girl for bringing in a birthday cake and a knife to cut it. She also was reinstated.
Can you imagine getting expelled at age 6? I waited at least until I turned 12.
I have a tire pressure sensor in my vehicle, If the pressure drops over 6 psi it goes off, which it does every time there is a sudden drop in temperature like a cold night after a warm day.
Yes, the govt is so inefficient. Look at Iraq, a six month war that's lasted 6 years and still going. Close the Dept of Defense and save a bunch of money.
When the tribe of cave people brought fire into the cave, id the stone-head said, "Government needs to get out of our lives and stop trying to micro manage us".
The war in Iraq has nothing to do with "government inefficiencies", IMO.
I believe Cheney and Rumsfeld actually believed the war would be a "cake walk".
They grossly underestimated the "insurgents", and now we've got this mess.
But, 45% of Americans think this war is a good thing, so go figure.
A cleaner is someone who fixes botched assassinations

45% ? Where does that figure come from ?
No one I know of is for the war or illegal immigration.
It is zombie hour!
The Right To Repair Act is a cause I can really get behind. I'm also leaning favorably to bringing back white sidewall tires.

I hate to pick on you D7, but I have a Jeep and I always take it to an American dealership because I live in America. They take very good care of my car and it's mechanical issues IF there are any. But I always do my homework on what they say. I don't blindly let them take the lead. My worst car nightmares were with my Volkswagen; my mg Midgett and my Honda Prelude. Never got them fixed right. Especially the MG. Love my Jeep. Love my Jeep Dealer - Yellowstone Country Motors in Livingston MT. And my local Jeep Mechanic is in Lebanon, TN; honest and reliable. Leaves the car clean also.
I'm more concerned with the "Rumble Seat Reinstatement Act".
I think that d7 has a zombie lover.
Come on Panda....take a straw pole and see how many want Obama to send in the 40,000 vs. pulling out. It's 45% who wants us to "win", therefore, so send 'em in.
And 45% voted for Bush the second time around, who approved of the war in Iraq.
I like rideing in rumble seat, but it is the tailgaters in Nashville that scare me.
Cpt: That's getting a little personal. Just because they roll over and play dead is no reason for name calling.
D7, we know now that OBAMA is NOT Bush. What we don't know is: Exactly WHO is Obama? I bet you can tell us. Lt. Nemo, what is a zombie lover?
Paul, I am calling it as I see it.
However Paul after I posted that post, I could see where you would be offended. So I do apologies to you for being so insensitive to your feelings. wink wink
sid, i had a VW and i never could get it to run right either. too many electrical issues.
I've never known anyone to have luck with VWs.
Yeah Blanket, I love German cars ie, Mercedes but can't afford one. But the VW is on my "can't stand that" list. Lots of people swear by them and the gas mileage is great, but I couldn't keep my VW (bug) running. I also loved the Honda Prelude (1977 I think) but maintenance costs were high. Maybe it was a lemon. My 85 Caddie was the best and I sold it for more than I paid for it. (lucky)
Weren't VW's "air cooled", not liquid? It's global warming before Al Gore invented it.
Porsches are the way to go. That SUV "Cayenne" is beautiful.
i'm on my third Nissan and i swear by them. my last two ran to 250K miles each.
The Cayenne is my dream car!!
house, have you seen the Latin Music USA special on NPT?
1987 25th Anniversary Edition Lamborghini Countach LP5000S...
there is no substitute.
I'm with you nazi. I am on my third Nissan pickup. I've had Ford, Chevy and Toyota trucks. Can't hold a candle to the Nissan.
I had a 1986 Oldsmolemon. Worst car I ever had. Worse than my Pinto and Beetle.
No, I get most of my "culture" from Nick Jr. these days.
My Honda has 333,000 on it now and acts as if only had 10,000.
I had a Nissan pickup once. The bed rusted out within a year. Never went back.
