Letters to the Editor

There was a crooked man

The serpent has reared its ugly head again in the person of Dick Cheney. He is back on the airwaves spouting his virtues and lack of the same for President Obama.

Doesn't this jerk know by now that the people are sick of him and just want him to go away? He had his chance and blew it and can't change his legacy no matter how he tries. He keeps trying to convince us that he was right and we were wrong in that he and his superior, W, kept us safe for seven and one half years and that Obama's policies are worse.

What he is not saying though is that 9/11 happened on their watch after they had prior warning of nine months. My question is in what way did they keep us safe and what did they keep us safe from?

They certainly did not keep us safe from the greedy corporations that stole our retirement funds and spiraled us into near depression from which we may never fully recover from nor the health insurance companies that ravaged our purses and denied us even the most meager health care.

They didn't keep us safe from a corrupt government that that played fast and loose with our personal freedoms and violated domestic and international law in just about every decision that they made. They were the ‘deciders’ whether we liked it or not.

Cheney needs to keep his crooked mouth shut and praise President Obama for the fact that he is not now in jail.

According to the "Polls" no one is buying Obama's b.s. Glad Cheney is stepping up to the plate and saying something.
This country is in the worst shape ever and Obama keeps blaming Bush when it's Obama's and his Chicago thugs causing the problem, the entire problem.

Verbal Cartoon

From his underground Oval Office Dick Cheney walks into the sun light and curses, "Damn Obama! The sun is too bright."

By: idgaf on 10/28/09 at 3:28

We would be in better hands with Cheney then either Bush or barry.

By: Captain Nemo on 10/28/09 at 3:39

From yesterday

chief-Actually, since Nemo hasn't been on for a while, it's been rather pleasent here....the insults have been to a minimum.

chief when I am not posting I am make money. You on the other hand are wasting Taxpayer Money when you are posting.

By: dargent7 on 10/28/09 at 4:50

What's the difference of what Cheney's doing and what Jane Fonda did? The fact she also ridiculed the war and Nixon's policies overseas? Cheney's constant attacks on Obama in the press and on the air cannot be construed to be constructive and patriotic...more like idiotic.

By: Funditto on 10/28/09 at 5:45

I'd like to know specifically what McCain would have done differently and how we would be better off. Not what Obama has done wrong, what they would have done right. Please share.

By: dargent7 on 10/28/09 at 6:08

Let's see, if McCain won last Nov., his ticker would of given out by now. Then we'd have that Babe-licous Palin running the show. McChrystal would of received his 40,000 troops, another 20,000 thrown in for luck. She would have to show everyone she has the cahones of a man, so the US would of bombed Iran and N. Korea, and parts of Russia. WW III would be in the making, if not already underway. The Cold War would be thawing, and the countries nukes would be dusted off.
Moral of the story; thank God Obama got the job.

By: Funditto on 10/28/09 at 6:10

Nailed it.

By: Kosh III on 10/28/09 at 6:18

"Obama's and his Chicago thugs causing the problem, the entire problem."

Delusional. Obviously parroting Drugbaugh and Beck.

How exactly did Obama cause Paulson and Bush to rush through the bailout(payoff) to the Wall Street plutocrats? How did Obama crash the market?

By: 2476 on 10/28/09 at 6:40

This has to be the worst slanted left wing article to appear in the NCP since I have been reading. The left wingers are getting afraid, very afraid as the tide is turning on slick tongue Obama. His popularity is sinking fast and it is going to continue to fall, as he is not keeping campaign promises and screwing up everything he says and does. I think it is hilarious to just sit back and watch as he and Peeloser and Harry "Dimwit" Reid, plus Barney Frank keep trolling along screwing up every day.

By: Dragon on 10/28/09 at 6:53

Cheney HAD to respond when Rahm lied. Obama did not "start from scratch" like Rahm told the world. Obama needs a different excuse for screwing up Afghanistan last spring.

It's been more than two months. When will Obama make a command dicision?

By: dargent7 on 10/28/09 at 6:58

2476: Was it also "hilarious" to sit back while GW Bush invaded the wrong country, Iraq?
And now, Obama has two wars to figure out? I bet that was a hoot for ya'.

By: pandabear on 10/28/09 at 7:00

Anyone who can't see Cheney for what he is, after all he's done
to sabotage this country in the name of oil and another buck,
is sadly either blind and/or permanently ignorant, and Bush was his leader
(or the other way around...).

"Even the rats survive when the boat is rescued"

By: rldavenport@com... on 10/28/09 at 7:03

These old, worn-out charges about Bush and Cheney violating our personal freedoms and international law are absolute lies. Everything done with FISA was absolutely within the law. Clinton used FISA in the same way as Bush, but you hypocrites said nothing about him doing it. You guys have NEVER produced any proof of anybody's personal freedoms being violated as a result of this "domestic surveillance." Some of you libs act like we should have just left the terrorists and their friends alone.

Also, you continue to protect Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Franklin Raines and the others who perpetrated the fraud and screw-ups that happened with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Yes, Bush and Cheney made some big mistakes; but we need to rebuke the real parties responsible for that abuse and other fraud and abuse as well.

By: dargent7 on 10/28/09 at 7:04

Giving money to Wall Street, banks, and General Motors pales in comparison to a "command decision" sending an additional 40,000 troops into a nighmarish hell on earth that has no end game. And as sure as the sun rises, McChrystal will be back for MORE troops in 6-8 months. He and McCain will need another "surge".
It will never end, and Obama knows it. Look at this "win" some say we got in Iraq. Sunday, 145 people were killed in Baghdad, our "Green Zone". Can't wait for McCain to tour there again saying, "See, it's perfectly safe". "Vacation here with the wife and kids".

By: Captain Nemo on 10/28/09 at 7:08

panda is correct in saying..."Even the rats survive when the boat is rescued"

The RAT party of the GOP fringes wing is still complaining. How many years did they say it was Clintons fault? How many years that it was Carters fault? They even went back as far as FDR.

The Nashville City Paper prints this kind of crap, yet they block my editorial and commentary e-mails from being read, and or published by their readers.

Dick Cheney is one of the most effective Vice Presidents of all time, in working with the American military and all area departments covered with our National Security. Yes, G.W. Bush and Dick Cheney made sure America never faced another belligerent attack of terrorism as we faced on 9-11.

Will Mr. C.W. Clouse ever admit that Sen. Chris Dodd and/or Rep. Barney Frank were ever responsible for their instructions to the AIG’s, Countryside Financial, etc. had anything to the financial failures; changing folks who ordinarily would not qualify for excessive home loans, all of a sudden became qualified, and did not have the income to make adequate monthly payments. This type of rule changes by Liberal Democrats are directly responsible for the bank and other financial institutional failures which also destroyed the retirements programs of today.

Please, Mr. C.W. Clouse, take your head out of the sand, where ever you are, as Nashville has rock only, not sand.

While I love Nashville, have met, and still communicate with several in Nashville and others, around the area connected to Nashville, the City Paper blocks my e-mail publicly messages. I still read the City Paper each day The only way allowed for me to communicate through the City Paper is through responding to this type of radical left-wing rants.

Oh, Harward...which Carolina do you reside? South, the one with Mark Sanford who exemplifies your "Conservative Christian Values" by having an adulterous affair?
Or a Dick Cheney who involved the USA in a war spanning 7 years, costing a cool trillion, thousands killed, and has no end?
I think the reson TCP doesn't print your stuff is because they have a moral code and don't want to contribute to the deliquency of a minor.

Help the war effort and the economy and don't post on Taxpayers money.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/28/09 at 7:40

It's irrelevant what Cheney says...he's no longer in power.

HOWEVER that being said, I hold Obama accountable for what happens NOW in Afghanistan, the economy, and everything else that goes with being President.

So far, I'm not impressed. But we'll see what happens next year...and the year after.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/28/09 at 7:41

Barry destroyed the economy with his promises of wealth redistribution and sticking it to the 'rich'. Now he lets the hope in Afghanistan for a repeat of the Iraq success die on the vine.

By: chiefpayne568 on 10/28/09 at 8:00

Hummm...I wonder if Gov. Paterson is still happy about Rush leaving because of the ridiculous taxes and that he still believes “If I knew that would be the result,” he said of Rush’s leaving, “I would’ve thought about the taxes earlier.”

Looks like others are following Rush. How's that driving Rush and other rich people away from NY working for you? LMAO

To - Dargent7:

I live in the Southeastern NC, just east of Charlotte.

Yes, I support, and attempt to practice Judeo-Christian values. I write on the subject, among others, almost daily http://conservativechristianvoice.blogspot.com. If you will see on The City Paper, http://nashvillecitypaper.com/content/city-voices/letters-editor-1563, on June 26, 2009, I said then that Gov. Sanford had self-imploded. It was so sad to see a man who had such great promise, destroy himself.

That posting:

By: oyharward on 6/26/09 at 6:53
You don’t get much more Conservative or Republican than I. What destroys SC Gov. Mark Sanford is the fact that he used taxpayers’ money to visit his sweetie. He never thought that action would ever come back to bite him in the a_ _. That is a “no no”. It is sad that Sanford has imploded on his own political life.

The first post was mentioning 9/11 and it having occurred on the Bush-Cheney watch....Actually the first Twin Tower bombing where 6 were killed and thousands injured was a tip off to the Clinton Administration but who chose to ignore rather to charge it as if it were a crime! You cannot judge the present or the future without looking closely at the past. Sure, Bush made mistakes and the media made sure everyone saw the issue(s) multiplied and for the lack of responsible media reporting, the several dozen of mistakes that have been made since Jan 09 continues unchallenged. Watch for the chickens folks, they are coming home to roost!
