Rethink Parks’ cuts
As a member of the East Park Community Center, I felt compelled to voice my opinion on the proposed budget cuts by Parks Director Roy Wilson. The very affordable and free classes provided by the center make it possible for people of all ages to stay physically fit and healthy. At a time, when obesity and diabetes in our children is on the rise – giving them healthy and wholesome after-school options which help to keep them active should be on the top of Nashville’s priorities!
It is unacceptable that Mr. Wilson was not responsible enough to recognize the budget overage and correct it before it reached over $1 million, but trimming it by cutting out valuable staff positions — at East Park and across Nashville is not the answer.
I beg you, Mayor [Karl] Dean and the Metro Council, to find another option to cutting back a staff, hours, and resources at our community centers in Nashville.

Get rid of the golf cources.
Good morning.

Get rid of the golf cources.(sic)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I think the golf courses play there way memberships fees.
During budget short falls cuts to the parks and libraries are first to go.
"Cut some one else's...."? Police, Fire, EMT?
dargent
If we were to do that then id would post "get of the poless(sic). We can protic(sic) oursevles(sic)better."
Cpt."N": It's a good thing I have your "Captain Nemo's Spell Check for Complete Idiots" running in backround, otherwise I wouldn't know what the hell you just said.
dargent I don't have the complete book of spell checks. If I did I might understand what idgaf was complaining about all of the time. lol
"N": Try using "Loner & Co." Guy's got a vocabulary rivaling Evelyn Wood.
I think the golf courses play there [SIC] way memberships fees.
Sheesh. Nemotard correcting another's grammar and spelling? That's stones.
You are correct about that d7. Loner is much better with words than a butter knife. lol
dargent, a funny thing happen yesterday. My butt started to itch and what do you know serr shows up today.
If the butter knife would take the time and not try to show me up, it would see that there are fees at Parks Golf.
Nemotard, your butt itching is prolly because you've spent too much time in public bath houses. With floating duckies, of course.
Getting rid of golf courses? Let me guess, ID doesn't play so why should anyone else?
Membership is $500+. A round of golf is $20. They are run by skeleton crews but give back to the community ten-fold.
IMO, parks should increase the fees they charge for event usage. They're extremely low.
Serr, I see you're out of jail. How nice.
So that explains why my butt itch. You were the one with it's nose stuck up my butt?
I should have know that, that duck was serr. It was waving a floppy knife.
It's only 7:00am and the insults are flying. You guys ever heard of Dale Carniege classes? Charm school?
You guys?
Are you are inculding the butter knife as part of the human race? lol
If golf courses pay their own way, why were they almost 200K in the hole from being open last winter?
----------------
It is not just the community centers that will suffer.
** The Nature Center at Beaman will be cut back on hours it is open. It is only open 8 hours per week now, how much more cutback can there be?
** Stones River Greenway has a section that collapsed over a month ago making it impassable. No repairs are in sight.
** There is supposed to be a connector from Stones River to Heartland Park Greenway; it was due for COMPLETION this summer. Work has not even begun.
** Peeler Greenway was officially opened 2 1/2 years ago, yet there is one section not yet completed and no plans for completion.
These and probably other projects that are provided to all citizens go lacking and this budget fiasco will delay them even further. Maybe we can walk on the golf courses instead?
---------
I agree with Funditto. Event useage fees are too low. How much do taxpayers get stuck with paying for the Steeplechase each year? Are the attendees too poor to afford more?
D'arge. You obviously don't know Serr.
With the exception of one part-time person, Greenways are run and partially funded by private donors. Donations have been way down of late.
Funditto! Didn't you used to be ISIT2008YET? Why no ISIT2010YET?, yet?
And didn't you have some goofy website selling ObamaLove posters or something? How's that working out for you now?
Glad you lost all that weight, though. 300 lbs. just didn't look right with your face.
The parks suffered when Fulton cut back years ago. The homeless ran the park back then, because there was not enough money to patrol all of the parks.
I suppose Charley Tygard who is a stronge supporter of tax cuts is now wishing that he had not been so enthusiastic about tax cuts now. After all it was he that pushed for the Greenways in Nashville.
Fund-O: You're right. The ONLY one I've met is "Dooley". Nice man. I prefer NOT to meet anyone and stay anonomous. Too many unsolved crimes on Tenn. ledgers now, anyway.
dargent7, you've no worries from bloggers. It's these newspaper forum dawgs that are questionable. Bloggers can't stand 'em, really.
I'm here because there's reports that the Nashville City Paper is 'laundering' news. Something about Kleinheider's column, and the lack of links; the City Paper supposedly 'lifted' the story via Kleinheider's Post Politics thinger from The Tennessean. Any thing to that? If, of course, you girls can stop pulling each other's pigtails long enough to answer?
Must be that serr is trying to draw people to his blog. I bet that he pissed off too many on his and is now searching for new people. LOL
See the column in Pith in the Wind for more information...
http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/2009/11/news_laundering.php
And please, break the newspaper forum addiction! Get HELP!
It must be lonely in that hold you call a blog.
Nemotard, there's so much you don't know that it's frightening.
You're like a little mushroom, growing in the dark, feeding on feces.
A tiny, small, diminutive little thang you are.
You have got that all wronge butterknife. I do not visit your feces of a blog.
Nemo, do this: sign up for Twitter. That's the fastest-growing social networking site out there right now (ready to eclipse even Facebook).
You could be @Nemoshroom. You'd have followers, I'm sure of it!
The Parks department overran their budget by over $1 million over the past year. Why does Roy Wilson still have a job?
Any follower that I might get would be scared off by you sniffing my butt.
I sure that your face book is that of you mooning the world.
That is a good question d7. What was his expplanation or was there any.
Serr8d: TCP has gone from 5 hard copies to 2, to 1, Monday's only now. They print 1 LTE, usually from out of state from a lobbyist or the usual gang of idiots (4) around these Tenn. parts.
I doubt anyone at TCP "lifted" anything from The Tennessean. That would be like Jeff Fisher "lifting" game plays and strategy from the Detroit Lions or St. Louis Rams. Possible, but improbable.
These "girls" are harmless. The daily LTE is totally irrelevant to the discussion after the 1st page.
I only post here as a requirement for my release from the "half- way house".
Change of Subject - please excuse.
NOW I can scream because they are making a federal case of it. Did anyone see this on the Tennessean Website?
Stimulus could help Nashville save on convention hall
Nashville could save $5 million a year in debt payments on a proposed convention center by issuing taxable bonds that would be partly subsidized by the federal government, a top aide to Mayor Karl Dean said Monday.
http://www.tennessean.com/article/20091103/NEWS0202/911030319/1001/NEWS
No Convention Center.
dargent, you jest. You act as if the butter knife is of the human race.
Gotta love these private coffee chats?
d'argent7, you say that the CP can scarcely make payroll, then you infer that the CP has no need to lift The Tennessean's stories. Seems a bit of a contradiction.
From the Pith in the Wind article...
In this case, what Underwood means is that he thinks that The City Paper is using Kleinheider's blog as a way to bring in a story that is not theirs, attach a veneer of SouthCommie goodness to the story, and then move it back out to consumers as something The City Paper is bringing you, when it's a story from The Tennessean.
In this case, that seems to be a fair accusation.
If what you say firstly, that CP is barely surviving, then it's possible they need whatever they can get.
The CP's owners (SouthComm) also own Kleinheider's Post Politics. Now Kleinheider is sort of a butthead (back, Nemrod!) but seems to me he's being used unfairly.
Oh, well. Nothing to see here. As usual.
Eavesdropping again are you govskeptic?
Good morning, Nashville!
Donica Christensen's LTE is well-written and refreshingly brief. Her ox was gored, she's upset about it and urges the mayor to go out and gore somebody else's ox, or oxen. Same old Gee and Haw?
Thanks for the kind words, Darge and Nemo.
Serr8d is back? He's slumming it, I reckon. Serr's OK; misinformed and misled? Perhaps. We usually disagree. Still, he's articulate and passionate; we need more of that here; the righties have dwindled in strength, Serr8d's cutting edge commentary is just what we need here, IMO.
I like the pejorative term, " newspaper forum dawg", might look good on a T-shirt. Woof! Woof! Thanks, Serr!
Hitler was articulate and passionate too.
Surely we're not going back to the Hitler comparisons again?
Was he not? And don't call me Shirley.
And Charles Manson was a gifted speaker and musician.
Yes, but his artistic interpretation of The White Album was a little off...
lol!
serr would love a follower like chief.
