Letters to the Editor

Imagine the possibilities

Imagine if you were homeless and you were able to be picked up on a free shuttle to go to one place and have access to all of the services that you needed. With the help of a volunteer to guide you through the day, you could see a judge if you had some minor outstanding issues that needed to be
resolved.

Then you could walk across the room and get a copy of your Social Security card which you lost some time ago. You could get your driver’s license reinstated so that you could possibly interview for a job driving a truck or just to use for identification.

You could apply for food stamps. You could get a much needed hair cut that just makes you feel good. You could get fitted for a new pair of glasses so that you could finally see to read and fill out a job application. You could get a pair of shoes or a warm winter coat. You could place a free call to a friend or family to tell them that you are OK. You could sit down to a hot meal.

Imagine the relief of knowing that you could do all of these things at Project Homeless Connect on Dec. 9 in the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. And if anyone wants to help out, sign up as a volunteer at www.thekeyalliance.org.

Good morning, Nashville!

Finally, an LTE that isn't about God, Guns, Gays and Guvmint or written by Paul D'Argent. I like Paul, and the 4G's, but variety and diversity are good.

I admire people who work with the least fortunate in our society; I support the charitable work of volunteer organizations such as the Key Alliance.
Too bad that this Homeless Connect project is just a one-day outreach effort.

As for the Letter itself, the author used the term "you could" twelve times in the text, that's overexposure, IMO. The tone is a bit warm and fuzzy, but I prefer that approach as opposed to laying a guilt trip on the reader.

Good luck, Holly McIndoe and may God bless you and your group.

Sign me up! I don't enjoy half of those services.

Loner: Paleface speak with forked tongue. I got a doozie in the hooper about Obama's "bowing" to heads of state. Should hit monyana.

By: house_of_pain on 11/17/09 at 6:20

Sounds like a worthwhile project. Why only once per year?

Great letter! Here to hoping one day none of it will be necessary because everyone will have a home and job.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/17/09 at 6:40

So far I am fortunate enough that I don't need any of this services, but that could change in a heart beat. I am glad to know that there are people and organizations like this.

By: dargent7 on 11/17/09 at 6:47

I don't know Nemo: You need a hair cut and by the looks of your 1st post, glasses too.

By: CAH on 11/17/09 at 6:51

Hey D'Argent, hold off on doing the "Bow" letter and try to do an unbiased one on how Obama's tax credit is coming back to bite us.

By: gdiafante on 11/17/09 at 6:56

Yeah, here's one for you CAH, the IRS sent out letters and created a calculator in order for people to calculate what they were refunded. So they should have known if they were having more taken out. Ever hear of personal responsibility?

By: Captain Nemo on 11/17/09 at 6:56

I am reading yesterdays post, that some of you were having fun at chief's perverted views of Christianity. He does have an distorted picture of the Bible. His very narrow minded look at the world has given him to think that if he believes it is true, then it is Gods will.

By: Captain Nemo on 11/17/09 at 7:02

Sorry dargent. I had not had all of my coffee yet. ;-)

By: CAH on 11/17/09 at 7:06

The problem, GD, is that so many of you people, yes you people, believed Bobo when he said he was giving everybody a break so they didn't double check. Just like when they believed him when he said rushing through the stimulus would hold down unemployment below 8%.

Luckily, I didn't believe him so I doubled my "Credit" and stuck it in a separate account as a "just in case".

Now, though, millions of people will be stuck at tax time and Congress, in their infinite wisdom, will probably send out more checks to make up for it thereby putting our country in even more debt.

Be proud, liberals, your government is at work saving you from yourself.

By: gdiafante on 11/17/09 at 7:08

Pardon me, CAH, do you have any Grey Poupon?

By: Captain Nemo on 11/17/09 at 7:11

chief do you think the Bible was writen first in English or did that come later?

I have talked with people that think the Bible was first writen in English.

CAH so you have an offshore banking account?

By: dargent7 on 11/17/09 at 7:15

CAH: Too late. Obama's progressively bending over at increasingly greater angles. The King of Saudi Arabia was 35 degrees, but the Emperor of Japan was clearly 45 degrees. Soon he'll be just grabbing his ankles.

Obama's people screwed it up but, of course, it's our fault for not correcting it. My withholding was just fine until Obama decided to stimulate me.

Oh well, I guess the government can just wait a few months for may taxes.

Capt. as I read through the comments, I was thinking the same thing.

G, when? Where? I am very responsible and read all my mail, but didn't receive an IRS "calculator" letter.

Captain said: I have talked with people that think the Bible was first writen in English.
Capt. maybe they mean "first" as in first language AFTER it was written in it's original language. (I'm being sarcastic). Of course English was not the first language it was written in. Who would think that? A non-bible scholar?

By: CAH on 11/17/09 at 7:44

To compound matters, he's been touting how he has reduced our taxes. All that really happened is that he reduced our withholding but kept the tax tables the same. That means reduced refunds or increased payments come April 15th.

By: CAH on 11/17/09 at 7:46

No Nemo. No offshore bank. It is really easy to open a second account or a savings account at any bank or credit union. You could also stuff it under your mattress.

By: gdiafante on 11/17/09 at 7:48

They sent them Sid, I remember my wife and I going over it for a few days, mainly because she's an accountant and worries about such things.

I'm sorry but if you're constantly yapping about how you don't trust the government but then readily accept an adjustment in your taxes without personal review, you certainly deserve what you get.

By: Dragon on 11/17/09 at 7:51

So, it took you and an accountant a few days to figure it out? Must be impossible for the non-accountants in the country. They just trusted Obama's "tax cut".

By: gdiafante on 11/17/09 at 7:51

Or bury it in your back yard.

G, I have a tax person who does my taxes and when I receive anything, I call her. I nor my husband received it.

We got the annual social security statement dated April 22, 2009. But that's all. So where can I call to get this document? Seriously I didn't get it.

And I trust "some" of the gov'ment. I'm a gov-ment contractor. I trust me.

Actually Dragon, we took our time to decide what we wanted to do. You know, not make a knee jerk reaction...you know all about that, don't you?

In a larger context, I should say that we were in the process of selling our house, so we had a little more to consider.

But yes, I can see where it might take someone like Dragon maybe a week or two to understand.

No sid sad to say these people think that Adam and Eve actutely spoke English. That the Bible was first writen in Ehglish.

On first meeting my neighbor in Montana, she said "hi, I'm Sue. I"m a lesbian, I'm an athiest and I believe in evolution". I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or bolt, so I said: Hi'm I"m Sidney. My sexual preference is private; I'm a christian although not a perfect one and since I've never seen a photo of Adam and Eve, you never know. They might have been hairy apes to start with.

Has anyone actually taken a phot of God himself? My image of him is The Universe.

So, it is sad to think that anyone even thinks they know all the answers. I sure don't. But I agree that God has a sense of humor: Remember he made man first. Got a good laugh and then created us girls!

You know men are precious. Just last night, my "nearly perfect" husband came home at 5 with a document explaining his company's new insurance plan. He's known about it for 4 weeks. So he dropped it on my desk, 60 minutes before I had 20 people coming in for my mini-fundraiser.

He said "oh just do it when they leave". Go on line, spend a couple of hours reading and then select an insurance plan AFTER you spent a week cleaning house getting ready for 20 guests. Sure, HON, I"ll do that.

Of course I forgot. Ya thank he got his nice hot breakfast before work today? He?? no! I'm stitl mad.

But God made him, so I gotta love him!

And that was my personal commentary today. Any therapy welcome!

By: Captain Nemo on 11/17/09 at 8:32

The reason God created Eve was that he was so afraid Adam would get lost in The garden and not ask for directions.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 11/17/09 at 8:39

so the people who tout "personal responsibility" didn't put two and two together to consider their withholding? wow.....and they don't want the "govment" making any decisions for people.

By: chiefpayne568 on 11/17/09 at 8:40
