Fallen from grace?

In spite of the glorious thanks we have in our hearts this time of the year when we celebrate the magnificent birth of Jesus, I’m personally saddened by the present Tiger Woods saga. Despite his incredible talent and meteoric elevation in our society as almost a god, these stories help us to realize that he is also simply a sinner in need of a Savior; just like the rest of us.

However, isn’t that what the Christmas story is really all about, or have we forgotten in our frantic world of materialism and earthly success?

As this drama unfolds, only time will tell how much of this young icon’s “standing” will recover in our status-obsessed society. It seems that human nature loves to build gigantic monuments to our heroes and then tear them down when they fail us.

Today, I heard a reporter say that Tiger Woods has “fallen from grace.” If one is talking about the grace one receives from this fallen world, this statement is sadly true. However, from Heaven’s perspective, this “fall” came as no surprise because falling is what sinners do naturally. That’s why the Savior was born — to catch and then restore the fallen which includes us all.

For this reason, even in the midst of all the human chatter, we can be assured that the Lord in His still small voice is whispering, “I love you Tiger. I forgive you Tiger. I’ll help you and your wife through this Tiger. I’ll even turn this tragedy into a triumph, because where sin abounds, my grace abounds much more.”

In the midst of all our wonderful celebration this Christmas season, I encourage you to please pray for Mr. Woods and his family because… “but for the grace of God go I.”

Pastor Bruce Vyverberg, 37862

Me, too, G. I love the 60's "classics." I also have to admit, I saw an infomercial the other night for Time-Life "Sweet Sounds of the 70's" and I almost called to order it! Great music! Cuba Gooding Sr was the host and also his band, The Main Ingredient, were among the artists on the cd's. Love me some Isley Brothers!

govskeptic said

"My concerns at this time of year are for the poor,
uneducated, and down trotten of this world than
for those members holding health, wealth, and
the attention of the World's media. Tiger has done less
for me to forgive than those who truly have abused
power over the lives of others!"

Good one gov. Reminds me of a conversation I had the other day with one of my coworkers. He's a real chief type. He was complaining the other day that people tend to act nice and kind over the holidays and that the world would be a better place if we all acted like every day was Christmas. Now remember, this is a guy who thinks that only people who are lazy don't have health care, that the poor should just pull themselves up by the bootstraps, that social security should go away because only people who are irresponsible have nothing in their old age..... When he said what he did about Christmas I was so astounded that I couldn't even say anything.

Ames: Check yourself into a clinic, PRONTO. Referencing The Beatles "White Album" is racist? And "going to the "dark side" is racist? I was self- deprecating. And STOP with the childish re-runs of cut and paste of what we said day's earlier. What's your point? You are a certifiable imbicile.

D7, you are a certifiable imbicile. And you're an idiot and flame thrower. Get off my case.

And you need to go to school and learn some manners or take the bus back north.

OK, I guess Sid "V" is correct...The Beatles 'White Album" is a racist slur. (didn't they do time for being more popular than Jesus Christ?)
Anyway: Caution: I also fancy Pink Floyd's, "Dark Side of the Moon", obviously another racist album and it's followers for the last 40 years.
Thank God the nut-job aka, "Sid" isn't into Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, and Eminem.

And D7, you scare me. YOu are obsessing on me. Should I Hire an armed guard out side my home. YOuu are scarey!

That sound a lot like my brother, gdia. He got so upset a couple of years back when the democrates won big in Washington, that he said that he did not care if they (who ever they are) would just blow up DC. We would all be the better.

Then I had to remind that dumb sob that my daughter, his niece was going to collage in DC. Then I told him it that the reason the US was in such bad shape, was because it was for stupid people like him shooting off their big mouths and not thinking of the consquences.

By: Captain Nemo on 12/11/09 at 12:49

I sure wish sid a dargent would get a room. This little love spats are getting embarrassing.

By: MamaG on 12/11/09 at 12:56

By sidneyames: "...and flame thrower..."

What kind of derogatory comment is that? I am sick and effin' tired of you so-called Christians using comments like that willy-nilly. You are a narrow-minded hypocrite.

Pastor there nothing simple about Tiger Woods. He is one hell of a sinner. he had it great at the top so lets, let the man stand up by himself. If he pull himself true it it OK.,if he fall out of grace it still OK. we give the man credit he has been there

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/11/09 at 1:10

Nemo, we learned the other day how the conservatives like to give a "hand up" - lol!

By: Blanketnazi2 on 12/11/09 at 1:11

yesterday's discussion concerning capital punishment was interesting. the agnostics/atheists were for preserving life while the "christians" were screaming for blood. ironic that.

Yes and they could not care if an innocent person died or not.

If we are to only look at the collective mind set of the fringe right wing. Then humankind is despicable.
