Keeping an eye out

On Jan. 11, the story I have been waiting for finally broke on the CBS Evening News! It detailed how several members of the U.S. Congress went to the Climate Summit in Copenhagen in 2009. None of them had any impact whatsoever, and they should have known ahead of time that they would have no impact.

But here is what is really funny to me. The radio talk-show hosts made a big deal out of the Climate Summit and, as always, lambasted Al Gore, Jr. for his views. While doing this, talk show hosts such as Michael DelGiorno profusely praised Rep. Marsha Blackburn for attending the summit, stating that she was there to "keep an eye on Al Gore."

Never mind the fact that she, like all of the others, wasted an enormous amount of taxpayer money attending said summit. By the way, who were all the others there to keep an eye on?

And this week all one could hear on talk radio was the same stupidity out of them, especially Phil Valentine. Every single time it gets cold, [we] will hear him howl that it is some kind of proof that global warming, or climate change, isn't real.

You know, it's wonderful how intelligent he and others like him are. He is able to grasp the concept that the little warming spell that occured during the Middle Ages might be the result of a volcanic eruption. But he can't fathom the concept that humans are regularly putting almost exactly that kind of stuff up into the atmosphere on a continuous basis and that, because of this, humans really are causing a negative impact upon our climate.

No, for him, nothing humans do has any impact whatsoever so we should all just keep on doing exactly what we are already doing — polluting as much as we want to.

Sorry Nemo. When I first landed in Nashville I went to the DMV and wanted a personalized license plate, "Big D*ck on Board". They said "it's taken". Your name came up in the conversation.

Let's tally it up...the French colonial experiment left the world with the French-Indochina mess (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia). They also gave us the mess in Algeria. France exploited then split in the the region now known as Lebanon and Syria. Other examples abound, but the hell hole that is Haiti may be France's ultimate "gift" to humankind.

It seems that wherever there is hoplessness and despair, France was there.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:05

Loner: I think I can trump your ante. Truman dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Pearl Harbor lost 2,200. Can you say, 500,000 and "Nuclear Winter"?
Looking at Haiti now reminds me of Iraq after Bush I with his "Desert Storm", "Highway of Death" in 1991, and Junior's "Shock & Awe" of 2003.
What is your point, again?

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 9:06

Haiti's been independent from France since 1804...so we're still blaming France, are we?

d7 you and I can push her button so easy.

Now she will think--------that -----this----post-----is some ----sexual----------remark.

I will say to all......yuck!!!

Not really Capt. I have my buttons on auto pilot. And sexual post. Yuck! No, I picture you guys as old, wearing your bathrobes that smell like cigar smoke, what's left of your hair in a little tuft on top of your head, earrings, tattos that droop and hairy backs. No sexual thoughts here. Thanks anyway.

By: Captain Nemo on 1/14/10 at 9:07

lol d7.

It must have been a computter error.

Now stop or the headstone will be needed.

D7 I'm gonna go with Loner on this. Your post which followed wasn't even what he was talking about. So get on topic. Haiti; France, etc. Yeah Loner, D7 said France and China were first responders. Maybe France feels guilty or wants another take over.

It just wasn't the French. All of the European that colonized the rest of the world. They knew what was best for everyone eles.

Sid: I do believe you said about 6 months ago that you were 46 years old...yesterday you said you're turning 64. I'm 48. I don't have hair on my back, it's still all on my head. I have NO tatoos. I sleep in the nude. Never had an ear lobe pierced. But, I'll sleep with anyone willing, so you got me there.

By: house_of_pain on 1/14/10 at 9:14

I take exception to that, sid...I'm a sexual tyrannosaurus...

By: Captain Nemo on 1/14/10 at 9:15

She just proved my point d7.

Her button are ready at the touch.

I still think she is chief in drag.

Think fast sid.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:17

"hopeless and despair, France was there"....kinda like what the USA did in Vietnam?

By: Captain Nemo on 1/14/10 at 9:19

Now reading d7's post, I will be afraid to go to sleep.

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 9:20

Hey, the Jews still blame the Romans for their expulsion from the "Holy Land" in 66 AD. By comparison, 1804 is current events.

My point is that France screwed half the planet, left a debris field in their wake and now pontificate about humanitarianism and social responsibility.

The flawed Treaty of Versailles actually set the stage for WW2. The French brought out their Jewish citizens faster than the Germans could haul them off to the death camps. The French Resistance is largely mythical. No, the image of France, as a civilized and humane society, is highly over-rated.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:22

I was going to vote for "Loner"as "Cerebral Poster of the Year".
But, that last post about the "mess" France left the world is too much.
My vote goes to "gdia" for his knowledge of what The Beatles were saying when you play the "White Album" backwards.

By: Blanketnazi2 on 1/14/10 at 9:28

Nemo, glad to see that you're back to your old self!

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:28

"Jews, Holy Land, France"...where have you been? The USA has single-handily ruined this planet since 1965. Atomic bombs, Vietnam, Kent State, Civil Rights, Assassinations, Iraq, Afghanistan...and you're older than me! You lived thru this shi**t. I have to READ about it.

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 9:28

Which Year, D7? This one is hardly two weeks old. I am now depressed and crestfallen. Congrats, Gdiafante, you deserve this award, you are so witty. I'm just an old mailman without a clue.

I'll just sit back now and try to keep up with you smart guys.

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 9:30

Loner, they've been independent for two hundred years, eventually they are responsible for their own poverty, right?

I don't give a rat's ass why France or Israel is helping or what happened in 1637 and neither should you. You should care that they're helping, period.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:31

Loner: Don't get pissy. But when you start throwing stones at France...
Look at the blood on the hands of America. Start about 1776.

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 9:37

Thank you for clarifying my values and priorities for me, Gdiafante. Gosh, you really are a "cerebral poster"....we are not worthy. A man with your intellectual abilities should be working for the State Department, instead of wasting your time preaching to idiots and A-holes on an obscure newspaper forum. Again, I'll just sit back and attempt to keep up with the furious pace of enlightenment. Please continue...

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 9:38

Jeez Loner, you're a spaz like Chief. Lighten up, or light up, either one.

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 9:39

France makes the finest saxophones in the world - the incomparable Selmer brand. Other than that, the French tend to suck.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:40

gdia: Yes! That's the point.
While the USA is "accessing" the problem, these Socialistic/ Communistic countries had planes on the ground. None of the patented 'board rooms" and discussions the USA is famous for. Just GET THE HELL OVER THERE!
Maybe send FEMA. They did so well in LA with Katrina.

By: house_of_pain on 1/14/10 at 9:41

I've been to France...the food was mighty fine, the people...not so much.

By: Loner on 1/14/10 at 9:41

I just had to let the world know about the Selmer saxophones. Back to you smart guys....

By: gdiafante on 1/14/10 at 9:42

I have to say, if my house is burning, I don't ask the background of the guy throwing water on it, I help him.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 9:44

Then I guess you don't drink their wines and champagnes? Never been to "The City of Lights"? Kissed a French woman? On a 1 to 10 in culture, beauty, sophistication, fashion, intelligence, and sexuality, America is a 3, on a good year (tire).

By: slacker on 1/14/10 at 9:47

Loner, I can't believe you take this nonsense so seriously.
Put Boot's Yakety Sax on.

Funditto said

"Pat Robertson said Haiti's pact with the Devil is the cause of their disaster. Idiots seem to get a lot of press these days."

The sad irony is that if someone from a Muslim country or background would have made that same statement about America, the right would be all over them like cold on ice, like spots on dice, like cats on mice.....

Loner said

Unfortunately, the attitude that we recognize as "French" in this country is primarily a Parisian attitude... the people outside of Paris are actually quite nice... just my two cents.

dargent, you left out bad teeth.

The Veg-a-matic would never have been invented if not for the French Guillotine.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 10:00

Is the USA over there yet? Or have all the lawyers not signed off on it?
And where are those pussies from England and Canada?
Bush's lap dogs for the past 8 years.
Obama is still holding press conferences, having meetings, photo-ops.
This demonstates to the world the true nature and character of the United States of America.

By: house_of_pain on 1/14/10 at 10:00

slacker, I haven't seen any Lane Kiffin voodoo dolls yet...you could corner the market.

By: Kosh III on 1/14/10 at 10:02

This will sound cynical, but I'd like for the President to ask Bush43 to go to Haiti and assess and coordinate assistance.
That's what happened when the tsunami hit, Bush41 and Clinton went there.

I would fully expect Bush43 to decline. He probably thinks Haiti is in the Mediterranean.

By: dargent7 on 1/14/10 at 10:03

Slacker: I'll take a French woman with bad teeth over an American with perfect bite-wing X-Rays. Ever had a French women talk "dirty" to you? In French, of course.
Gives new meaning to the term, "Eiffel Tower".

When bad or good things happen in life. God always get the blame. Why couldn't it be that God just sit things in motion and what happens is what happens.

Actually that is exactly right! except He set it in motion long ago.

Don't know about England, but Canada (as I heard it) was the second country on the ground there.

Darge, Obama promised $100 million in relief and "one of the largest relief efforts in recent hosory" is going to Haiti w/several elements of the U.S. military already there.

However, I've also read that the limited infrastructure in Haiti isn't accomodating the number of aircraft heading there.

I blame France.
