Chilly reception for first lady

In the interview of first lady Michelle Obama on NBC's Today Show Wednesday morning, it was stated that she has a 70 percent approval rating, which is good.

However, her bare arms and shoulders were not in the least an approved manner of attire for a winter time of sub-freezing weather.

Mr. Walker: You failed to explain what motive compelled you to write this letter. Is your observation a critique on seasonal attire? Since the First Lady has recently been praised in various media for her attractive arms and shoulders, your comment would not be a thinly veiled sarcasm, would it?

Apparently none of the letters submitted by board members made the cut, so we have this one. Hm, perhaps this jewel was plucked from the "mine" of a member. However, that is unlikely, since it is out of character for any of our illustrious group.

My first thought - Is this a cross dresser that doesn't have the arms & shoulders for that style and is jealous?

So far in all of her appearances, IMO she has been very appropriately dressed for the occasion.

By: eastnashville37207 on 2/4/10 at 4:09

Dress for success is certainly not Ms Obama. We are talking about the First Lady of the United States who from what I have noticed dresses more like she is the wife of an athelete.

Arms and pits from the First Lady is not appropriate attire. Never was and never will be.

What's more important is the woman has no substance and hasn't really accomplished anything todate. She is now wanting to fight the fatty kids and why hasn't she showed up in Haiti to do something positive for those kids?
Ms Obama would have been a great photo opt for you but just didn't feel the kids suffering from the earthquake where worthy enough.
I believe I read that Ms Obama is unable to practice law anymore so I would have been more interested in why than her fashion or lack of fashion.

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 4:22

Haiti has nothing to do with her clothing styles! Are you just upset that neither of the Bush women had any style?

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 4:31

At least she hasn't worn any of those silly hats favored by Elenore Roosevelt.
And could someone help "eastnashville" down from his neighbor's roof? He's receiving those alien transmissions again.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 4:33

bfra: "neither Bush woman"? Babs made my grandmother look good.

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 4:37

d7 - Thus far I think Michelle Obama has been an asset as First Lady. And for their age, the little Obamas, also. Whew! Remember the Bush twins?

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 4:48

Saw an article where the repubs are still yelling about Obama's birth certificate! Why couldn't they have exited the spas, got into their limos (all at taxpayers expense), spent some time in their offices to investigate this before the election? They have the FBI, CIA and others means available to do so.

Good morning.

We have been asking for letters and Jack D. Walker letter is a disappointment. What is the point of the letter? Perhaps it is an attempt at a backhanded slap at the Obama’s?

Then we have eastnasty come in from its East Nashville prison claming to be a fashion created. What is there to say about this fringe poster.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 5:32

The Bush Twins? When they weren't under age drinking, getting into car accidents, and giving free lap dances, they were Daddy's little girls. Like father, like son...I mean, daughter?

bfra: Obama's Birth Cert. or "Live Birth" is all over the internet. You can view it microscopically, from 15 different angles, upside down, right side up. It's been analyized more than The Shroud of Turin. If it's a forgery, must of cost his grandmother $10 million. Of course, she just knew "Barry" would one day become President of the USA!
The "birthers" who question it are the new fangled and greatly improved, but always, the KKK.

George W. Bush is not a real Texan.

Nemo: Bush presided over more executions of the retarded than any other Texas Governor. He owned the Texas Rangers, who were the worst baseball team in America. He wears a Stetson, a big ass belt buckle, Wranglers, and cowboy boots.
He cannot speak above an 8th grade educational level. He has 2 DUI's, a prior cocaine habit, and his daddy called in so many favors and pulled strings to help him along. He's qualified to call himself a real Texan.

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 6:25

D7 - You left out Bush's smirky grin!

By: house_of_pain on 2/4/10 at 6:26

Why would she have an approval rating from anyone but her family?
She is not an elected official.

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 6:37

The letterwriter must have thought, since it was cold "outside, she should have had on a parka & snow boots for an "inside" interview.

By: Funditto on 2/4/10 at 6:46

I'll be the letter writer is fine with whatever Palin chooses to wear and sees nothing wrong with paying $550 to get a glimpse of her and protest frivolous spending.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 6:47

And isn't Obama known for keeping the Oval Office warm enough to "grow orchids"?
Reminiscent of his childhood in Hawai'i. Or was it Kenya? Or Indonesia?

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 6:49

Good morning, Nashville!

Jack Walker might have been into the Johnny Walker, when he scribbled this note. The two sentence, two paragraph missive is mercifully short. I don't think that American women need to cover themselves, so that men are not tempted into sin. Our letter writer might feel more at home in a Muslim country, where women bag their faces - or else.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 6:50

And Palin cashes a $100 grand check for a 60-90 minute revival speech on Saturday. I guess Trig has grown out of his booties and needs a pair of Nikes.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 6:52

Loner: I once dated a "two-bagger". She was a Methodist, I believe.

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 7:00

I don't know about you other guys, but the sight of a woman's bare arms or shoulders is not a sexual turn-on...am I just jaded?

I read where the thong is dead, according to Cosmopolitan Magazine. Now, a high waisted thong, peeking out from under a low-waisted jean, can be quite a sight for sore eyes....but bare arms and shoulders? No way.

I wonder how Mr. Walker felt about that photo of Sarah Palin in nylons and clinging, short, running shorts. Exposing hammy gams is OK, but bare arms is verboten?

By: house_of_pain on 2/4/10 at 7:03

I think we can file this one under "who gives a s**t?".

By: Funditto on 2/4/10 at 7:07

All I know is that if my arms still looked like Michelle's (and that's no small feat for women our age, guys) - I'd wear nothing but tanks and tees. Fur ones in the winter if necessary!

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 7:08

Loner - With the thong showing strap style, most don't seem to mind the rolls of fat they are showing either. Like the low slung jeans with their belly hanging over. Not many have the figure for those styles but wear them, just to be in style, they think!

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 7:09

Amen, House. This letter is beyond vacuous, it is vapid.

By: Kosh III on 2/4/10 at 7:12

Subject change time!

Sarah Palin walks into a gay piano bar........

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 7:15

Kosh - And there was Jack D. Walker in a strapless top & mini skirt.

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 7:15

Bfra, I agree; a little "muffin top" overspill can be quite alluring. I do not mind it when a women with a nice round bottom fills out a pair of designer jeans that are one size too small. That, and too much make-up, is fine with old Loner.

By: house_of_pain on 2/4/10 at 7:17

Definitely, Loner. We've got bigger issues around here...Krystal is taking reservations for Valentine's Day. That's gonna help our image for sure...

By: gdiafante on 2/4/10 at 7:19

Wow, that's the letter they print?

If that's the quality if LTE's being submitted, I guess I'll try and write one...jeez.

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 7:19

Krystal? Please explain.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 7:20

Geez! I wish I had Michelle Obama's arms and shoulders. I'd even take either Serena or Venus Williams bicepts too.

By: house_of_pain on 2/4/10 at 7:21

The little square burgers, like White Castle.

By: gdiafante on 2/4/10 at 7:23

There's nothing like sitting in one of Krystal's booths, eating some of their world famous gut-bombs and then taking your special someone home for that romantic night of nights...

By: Kosh III on 2/4/10 at 7:23

"The little square burgers, like White Castle."

Only better.

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 7:24

pain - Loner might think you are talking about a woman. Do they have Krystals in NY?

By: Kosh III on 2/4/10 at 7:24

"There's nothing like sitting in one of Krystal's booths, eating some of their world famous gut-bombs and then taking your special someone home for that romantic night of nights..."

And spending the rest of the night belching and farting.....

By: house_of_pain on 2/4/10 at 7:24

...followed by a rousing game of "Honey, pull my finger".

By: bfra on 2/4/10 at 7:27

With the quality of the lte today, might as well talk about Krystals!

By: house_of_pain on 2/4/10 at 7:29

My bad, guys, it's White Castle that's taking VD reservations.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 7:31

"White Castle" is the chain taking rsvp for Valentine's Day. And Baptist Hospital is taking rsvp for the morning after.

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 7:47

No, no Krystals in NY. That may be a good thing.

By: dargent7 on 2/4/10 at 7:49

How about Bob's "Big Boy"? Or did all the frats steal the statues?

By: Kosh III on 2/4/10 at 7:53

Yeah, Shoney's biggest mistake was changing it's image by dropping the Big Boy. I always like the Slim Jim.

By: Dragon on 2/4/10 at 7:56

With all the serious issues facing us today, THIS is what concerns Mr. Walker?

By: Loner on 2/4/10 at 7:57

We still have Denny's...isn't that the home of the big boy?

By: govskeptic on 2/4/10 at 7:58

Speaking of fashion, anyone out there with a good
washer and dryer for sale.? Still wearing summer
clothes myself since 3 winter outfits a little dirty.
