No job shortage here
Last week, my friend who works for the state of Tennessee sent 50 state jobs openings to his mailing list. I looked over the list and found just five jobs [I think] are critical to providing services to people.
This got me thinking: Why is the state is hiring 50 people to do jobs like wildlife manager when the governor is cutting important services like limits on hospital visits for TennCare recipients, and deleting speech therapy and physical therapy for patients on TennCare. I am an animal lover but I think people are more important than animals.
The government thinks it is more important for the prisons to have staff for a store where prisoners shop instead of helping 50 disabled people on the family-support program or providing services for people with mental illnesses.
I think the state should spend the limited money in the budget more wisely for the people of Tennessee.

Judges across the country are condemning federal sentencing guidelines, 1980s-era anti-drug laws that force them to impose “irrational” sentences, the LA Times reports. “When I have to sentence a midlevel drug dealer to more time than a murderer, something is wrong,” said a judge forced to sentence a 24-year-old to 59 years for selling pot.
The laws have ballooned the federal prison population to 181,622, compared to 24,363 in 1980. Copy-cat state laws have had a similar effect.
