To the Editor ;
I came up in a time of of true American patriotism and honesty that was noted to be a characteristic of all Americans in the world's eyes .
We were known to be the conscience of the world and the staunch defenders of freedom and justice, and were very proud to be Americans .
We have now hit an all-time low in dealing with other nations honestly. Our leaders have in the recent past violated domestic and international laws and treaties to try to achieve their goals. What is more deplorable is that our elected representatives, almost all of our politicians, have degenerated to a level where they will not even deal with our own citizens honestly and morally, and they now play the "ME' game, forsaking right and all else.
We hear on a daily basis on the airwaves outright lies and misdirections by partisan pundits on every subject they touch, from death panels to pulling the plug on Grandma. They then resort to racial bias as the biggest factor when they can't come up with real facts. They then hurl threats and spread fear in attempts at coercion to make their point, which many people unfortunately fall for through ignorance or just plain apathy.
It has gotten to the point that the U.S. is nothing more than a daily soap opera for the rest of the world to watch in awe with the advent of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Keith Olbermanm, and not in the least Rush Limbaugh and, oh yes, let's not forget Mitch McConnell, the organizer of the "NO" movement, and Mitt Romney, who thinks that the violence of the tea party is the good right fringe arm of the Republican party.
If for some reason I had to go abroad today I don't think that I could hold my head up and publicize the fact that I am an American. I would be too ashamed because I can't be the proud American that I was in my youth, when truth and honor reigned supreme and not a bunch of disingenuous clowns as we now seem to be.
We voted for change. Now let's do it and regain our dignity.
