Letters to the Editor

To the Editor ;

I came up in a time of of true American patriotism and honesty that was noted to be a characteristic of all Americans in the world's eyes .

We were known to be the conscience of the world and the staunch defenders of freedom and justice, and were very proud to be Americans .

We have now hit an all-time low in dealing with other nations honestly. Our leaders have in the recent past violated domestic and international laws and treaties to try to achieve their goals. What is more deplorable is that our elected representatives, almost all of our politicians, have degenerated to a level where they will not even deal with our own citizens honestly and morally, and they now play the "ME' game, forsaking right and all else.

We hear on a daily basis on the airwaves outright lies and misdirections by partisan pundits on every subject they touch, from death panels to pulling the plug on Grandma. They then resort to racial bias as the biggest factor when they can't come up with real facts. They then hurl threats and spread fear in attempts at coercion to make their point,  which many people unfortunately fall for through ignorance or just plain apathy.

It has gotten to the point that the U.S. is nothing more than a daily soap opera for the rest of the world to watch in awe with the advent of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Keith Olbermanm, and not in the least Rush Limbaugh and, oh yes, let's not forget Mitch McConnell, the organizer of the "NO" movement, and Mitt Romney, who thinks that the violence of the tea party is the good right fringe arm of the Republican party.

If for some reason I had to go abroad today I don't think that I could hold my head up and publicize the fact that I am an American. I would be too ashamed because I can't be the proud American that I was in my youth, when truth and honor reigned supreme and not a bunch of disingenuous clowns as we now seem to be.

We voted for change. Now let's do it and regain our dignity.

I was too young to remember the Joe McCarthy days of horror, but I had read about it. It seems that we are going through the same dark times now. Except now it is a Fox terror.

America went thru a dark period starting with the assassination of JKF, then the Watergate troubles and Nixon's resignation, Clinton's sex trial and impeachment, then the pathetic national election in 2000 whereby GW Bush and the Republican party stole it. Then 9/11.
Bush & Co. decided to invade Iraq as retaliation saying it wasn't the oil fields they wanted. Complete lies and all the world (except England), knew it.
Now, 8 years of a useless war.
Obama represented a fresh start, renewed American values, and repair what the LTE is talking about.
But 50% don't like Obama or his policies, actually call him a Communist set out to destroy America.
The rise of a Sarah Palin captures the imagination?
What is it America wants?

By: dooley on 4/29/10 at 5:33

Nemo is correct it all started with McCarthy and gradually morphed into the situation we now have. I remember it well , the lies and the witch hunts and the blackballing of innocent people as communist's such as idgaf still likes to do likes to do . Limbaugh models his persona on Joe McCarthy with his screaming lying hysterical rhetoric. It's useless to tell id to read up on it because like most of the teabaggers he would have to be able to read.

Dooley - Good letter! Too bad a "just plain common sense" course isn't taught, so a "FEW" grumblers here could enroll. Never mind, they wouldn't have enough logic to take advantage of learning "FACTS".

I had rather draw idgaf. and I would encourage everyone to participate.

Mr. Clouse, you need to get some help. How about we hook you up with Ray Stevens, Hank, Jr., Toby Keith, the boys and girls in the U.S. Military, and some of our wounded warriors? Maybe they can show you that America is still a country to be proud of.

Obama is not the Change people thought they were getting. Oh yeah, he says ban National Prayer Day. Now that should you make you proud.

AND house: I say "Moo Ham Dad"? Let's be careful in this post not to offend radical Is-lam-ac factions.

The FACTS are colored by left wing media bias, or else why do over 50% of Americans disapprove of Obama and 80% disapprove of the Health go to Hell Care?

Good morning, Nashville!

Great LTE, Dooley, lot's of truth in there.

I think that America's moral leadership took its first hit when Harry Truman ordered the atomic bombings of two defenseless japanese cities, he had plans to keep on nukin' the "Japs" until they surrendered or were annihilated.

Korea and Vietnam further eroded our position as the "conscience" of the world.

Bankrolling militant, apartheid Zionism in Palestine and the ethnic cleansing of the Arabs from modern-day Israel is the primary reason that we lost the respect and admiration of the world's Arabs and Muslims.

Invading and occupying Iraq and Afghanistan has reinforced the image of the American bully, working for the special interests and multi-national robber barons.

Turning a blind eye to Israel's nuclear arsenal (since LBJ) while threatening to "obliterate" Iran (Hillary Clinton April, 2008) may make the US popular in the Jewish state, but the rest of the world is not amused or encouraged by such actions and jingoistic bluster.

Refusal to sign the Kyoto Accords and a general contempt for international environmentalism has also had an effect on America's image as a moral and just nation.

Our federal government is on the take and the world knows it. We are spendthrifts and the world knows that too. Consumed by growing religious passion and egged on by unrestrained demagogues, America is on the road to perdition, pedal to the metal.....Yee, Haw!

By: bfra on 4/29/10 at 6:32

Nemo - Captured image, down to thebull frog eyes!

By: dargent7 on 4/29/10 at 6:33

K-3: The one big one I missed was "Vietnam", during the Johnson/ Nixon years.
When you really think about it, it's a miracle America still exists in any recognizable form.

By: govskeptic on 4/29/10 at 6:40

New American values, eh? Plant your apples trees now.
Get the fast growing type as you may need to be on
roadside selling them much sooner than expected!

By: budlight on 4/29/10 at 6:41

Yeah, with patriots like you, D7. You hate the country you live in. Can I help you pack?

The people on this site hate America. Give me a list of what ya'll are singularly or collectively doing to create a world of change.

Oh, besides voting for OGOTMINE! He's increased his net worth by about 5 million or more since he was a lowly community organ-izer! So how does that fit into your master plan of "change for America".

I say "the rich are getting richer" and the rest of us are getting the chump change.

By: Loner on 4/29/10 at 6:42

For the record, President Onama doubled the budget for the Faith Based Initiative and is going ahead with the National Day of Prayer, in spite of the fact that a federal judge has ruled that the law which authorizes the event is unconstitutional....Obama vowed to appeal the decision. Those who claim that Obama is against the event are incorrect.....as usual.

Obama is a politician who knows that, in a country in which 60% of the population believes that the Noah's Ark story is literal and true, you have to amuse the masses with stunts that highlight your "faith".

By: Kosh III on 4/29/10 at 6:42

Of course we can go further back:
Andrew Jackson and his genocide of the Cherokees, Wounded Knee, Japanese internment camps....God how "Christian" we are!

By: Loner on 4/29/10 at 6:54

America's treatment of the native populations was shameful by any standard, Kosh, I agree. Our history of black slavery and white supremacy are lasting legacies from our glorious past. Ask the Mexicans about being forced at gunpoint to cede huge tracts of land to the gringos. Ask the Polynesian remnant about how Hawaii became Americanized. What happened to the enormous herds of Bison? Oh yeah, we are a moral people.....in our own delusional dreamworld.

By: Dragon on 4/29/10 at 6:54

For the first few paragraphs, Dooley was describing the current Democratic administration. The financial CRISIS used to spend $1 trillion to "stimulate" Obama agenda projects, the healthcare CRISIS excused a takeover of the healthcare. The energy CRISIS is the excuse for cap-and-trade and now the immigration CRISIS will demand action before the November elections.

Anyone standing in the way of the Democratic juggernaut is a racist, bigot, fringe, etc, etc.

By: Dragon on 4/29/10 at 6:56

s/h/b takeover of the healthcare insurance industry.

Germany will either be a world power or will not be at all.
Adolf Hitler

By: dargent7 on 4/29/10 at 7:04

Sidiot: Oh, never mind.

By: Loner on 4/29/10 at 7:06

Dragon, you missed another "crisis", the falling out between Netanyahu and Obama.

Eric Cantor (Republican whip and de facto Israeli agent) is trying to paint the Republicans as more pro-Israel than the Democrats. Cantor is calling the US-Israel flapdoodle a "crisis"; every loyal Republican should now fall in line, right?

Who has more allegiance to the Jewish state concept, the GOP or the Dems? That will become a major theme for the upcoming elections, especially in 2012. The Israel-loving US media will certainly cooperate in the purge.

I really can't comment on the Jewish crisis, Loner. It did seem that Bibi, as well as the Dali Lama, were treated as back-door dignitaries.

By: Loner on 4/29/10 at 7:21

Why can't you comment on the "Jewish crisis"? Afraid to grab the third rail of American politics? Who could blame you for being reticent to comment.....any and all critics of the apartheid jewish state concept and the "special relationship" are labelled as "anti-Semites", "Holocaust deniers", "terrorist sympathizers", "Arab-lovers" etc.etc.

You may have forgotten or have not heard, but Bibi insulted Joe Biden and the Administration by announcing 1,600 Jews Only housing units in occupied East Jerusalem on the very first day of the VP's hi-profile visit. If Bibi was treated less than royally, that is the reason for the downgrade. Eric Cantor, an unabashed Zionist zealot, blames the Obama team for the falling out....and apparently you have bought that idea.

By: Dragon on 4/29/10 at 7:23

I can't comment because I'm not familiar enough to comment intelligently. I know, silly reason.

By: Captain Nemo on 4/29/10 at 7:30

That has not stoped you before Dragon. Why now?

By: Loner on 4/29/10 at 7:33

I'll accept that excuse, Dragon. I do hope that you will take the time to inform yourself on this critical issue and then offer your input for discussion.

The best place for information is the Jewish media itself; the Israeli bewspapers are all online and in English these days. The Forward, the Jewish Telegraph Agency and the Jewish World Review are also excellent sources for viewing the "special relationship" as the Israelis and the Diaspora see it. Unlike the US media, the Jewish media is honest about the fact that what is good for Israel may not be good for the USA and vice versa.

Check it out for yourself, Dragon, these race-based folks are exploiting America's generosity and good intentions and they tend to brag about it in their own media, as if those stupid Gentiles do not read their stuff.
