Opinion: Green recovery program helps Nashvillians too

Nashvillians need to be aware of the “Green-Collar Jobs Training Program” that has been presented to us as a Green Recovery plan for everyone in Tennessee. As you probably know, Tennessee can use a certain fraction of the $4.5 billion in Federal Stimulus Funds allocated to the state.

This provides a unique opportunity to assist Tennessee's unemployed citizens, who now make up 9.6 percent of the state's population. I believe every Tennessean should be letting Governor Bredesen know that this is what we want to better the economic situation in Tennessee.

I agree with President Obama's motto because ‘We do need a change’ in Tennessee. We need a change in our economical structure. We need a change in the homelessness situation. We need a change in the unemployment rate for men and women alike. We need a change in our society that would give the physically handicapped a chance to work as proud citizens of these United States.

Yes, we do need a change! We need a change for the nearly forgotten military veteran. We need a change for the disconnected youths of Tennessee, whose only mistake was to be misguided. We need a change for the formerly incarcerated individuals who have changed their ways yet can't find a way back into a supposedly forgiving society.

Yes, we need a change! We need a change about the condition of our environment. We need better insulation for our homes and apartments. We need better anti-air pollution devices. Better sanitation services.

Yes, we all need these changes. How are we going to do it?

We solve the problems. We do this by letting Gov. Bredesen know that we support the Green Collar Jobs program 100 percent, and ask that he approve the "Green Recovery" plan for Tennessee.

This, I feel, may be our last great hope.

Enough already with "we need, we need". Tell me, what are "green jobs", what would I be trained to do, and where does the job exist?

Your job would be to provide organic fertilizer since you are already full of it. :)

But you're right about one thing. What are "green collar" jobs. The writer does not say. Here is one answer: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1809506,00.html

I've heard that a major job opportunity in the coming years is in the production, installation and upkeep of wind machines.

Dragon fertilizer is something to think about. Yes that would be a good job for Dragon. lol

I'd like to see those wind turbines "combined" w/cell phone towers.... multitasking on a whole different level, right? LOL

I'll supply the raw material but it takes the Federal and State governments to use taxpayer dollars to train the homeless and handicapped on composting methods.

The future is green because the old way is not working for the state of Tennessee.
But, Tennessee is in the hands of the GOP and they are against anything that does not deal with guns, oil, abortion and gays.

"The future is green because the old way is not working for the state of Tennessee."

If it weren't for the TVA, those folks in Picayune would be saying "thank God for Tennessee".

Future green jobs could be new laws for your car and passengers new motor with new adapted seats and harness to collect methane gas from driver and passengers to fuel the auto. now that would be real gas millage ."Id"if we added gas mask to the driver and passengers then we could collect all the bull from the rightie you would not have got 45 mpg but at least 100 mpg from your loose lips alone

By: pswindle on 5/6/09 at 7:31

But, we have TVA. Enough said.
