Time-savers for Metro

As vice mayor, Howard Gentry has an interesting dilemma on his hands. He is trying to figure out in as diplomatic a way possible how to streamline Metro Council meetings.

Last week, in an embarrassing episode, the Council meeting went on so long that many Council members had to leave. That caused the Council to lose its quorum. Members of the public who had waited hours and hours to speak left frustrated and angry.

Gentry has already said he will require Council members to check in with him if they need to leave a meeting so he can keep track of how many of the 40 Council members are left. It takes 27 to maintain a quorum.
