U.S. Senator Bob Corker ( R-Tenn.) is cosponsoring bipartisan legislation to prevent the use of Justice Department funds to prosecute Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and the 9/11 conspirators in federal court. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) currently has 18 co-sponsors. Here are Sen. Corker's comments:
“Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other al-Qaida terrorists should not be given the same rights as American citizens, and they should not be tried in a federal court.
“Congress responded to the 9/11 attacks by authorizing the use of military force and by developing a military commission system to detain enemy combatants and try those who violate the laws of war.
"Military commissions provide a fair standard of justice, reflect the true status of these terrorists according to U.S. and international law, and are the proper venue for the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks.”
Nice speech "Vinnie T." Where's the "Letters to the Editor"?
I don't want to read "lifted" (out of context) excerpts from the Mayor or Governor's speeches. What's your point?
Full of pi$$ & vinegar this morning, d7?
He's probably trying to make sure opinions are about current topics. If you wrote a letter more than a week ago, it's probably irrelevant.
Good morning, Nashville!
This is a "bipartisan" effort to prevent the Justice Dept. from trying the waterboarded Sheikh? With baby-faced Graham and Corker behind it, this sure smells like another Republican effort to obstruct Obama's agenda.
What's going on here is a subtle effort to keep Gitmo open, indefinitely. If painting President Obama as a naive and back-pedalling buffoon is the goal, the longer that Gitmo remains operational the better,
Americans should never forget that Cuba owns the land on which the Guantanamo Naval Base is located. The Cubans have never cashed a single US rent check for that base, since the 1959 revolution. We are illegally occupying a base on foreign soil and we are doing so in order to circumvent the US Constitution and the Geneva Conventions.
In spite of our larcenous ways and war criminal intent, we still think of ourselves as occupying the moral high ground. When it comes to self-delusion, we Americans are the world champions.
Confessions obtained under duress, such as repeated waterboarding, would be inadmissable as evidence in a bona fide US Court of Law.. This is the real reason why many politicians want the trials to be handled by the military, where coercion is a more acceptable tool for gathering evidenciary material.
Loner: Your post is right on. TCP should run that as a LTE, not re-packaged mayoral speeches.
Notice how Corker's talking point commentary includes words like "terrorists", "perpetrators" and "enemy combatants" to describe those who have yet to face trial or get their day in court. Nowhere will you find any Republican politician refering to these men as "suspects". Oh no, these guys are already guilty as sin... the evidence = waterboarded confessions.
Let's face the facts, both Corker and Lindsay would admit to being responsible for the 9-11 attacks, if waterboarded sufficiently. If these suspects are tried in a US Court, they could beat the rap, simply because their confessions were coerced. This would be an enormous embarassment for Junior Bush and Dick Cheney. Protecting their legacy is part of the dynamic in play here.
Another reason is that the trials will happen during this election year and will be prominent in the news. The GOP does not want our President to appear strong.
They waterboarded this "KSM" a-hole 187 times....2 years ago. Did we get bin Laden's home address or e-mail screen name? No. We had a 21 year old punk with explosives sewn to his testicles.
al-Qaeda spends $5.00 and change to bring the USA to it's collective knees.
Thank you, D7. Vinnie T. has my OK to cut and paste my comments. I don't think that it's wise to alienate our host.
I put up a journal entry over the weekend, so far, only Serr8d has commented; again, here's the URL:

Loner: "Serr8d got out? When?
Washington (CNN) -- President Obama is asking for more than $230 million in the 2011 budget to buy and prepare an idle Illinois prison to house terrorism suspects now detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Justice Department budget for 2011 unveiled Monday calls for about $172 million for the federal government to acquire and renovate the state-owned prison in Thomson, Illinois, and another $66 million to eventually staff and equip it.
Can someone tell me why we should make special arrangements for war criminals such as the Sheikh? He admitted he was guilty. He is guilty and would kill everyone on CP postings if he could.
So, logically speaking, why does he deserve the rights of a U.S. citizen? After all he committed the crime as a war crime. So why not a war time military commission?
War crime? When did Congress declare war as the constitution requires?
The only person I communicate outside this board (except telepathically w/ "eastnashville") is Clouse.
He and I have over 10 LTE's in the pipeline waiting for distribution.
Topics range from politics, environment, religion, and the female sexual response.
I thought Vinnie would publish the "Female Orgasm" LTE, by now, for sure.
Ms. Ames: When the USA isn't bombing and occupying weaker countries, the rest of it's activities are for "show".
Mirandizing, providing lawyers, holding the trial in front of a jury, is the American way.
We simply cannot execute them in front of a firing squad without due process.
That would be barbaric.
So, at a cost of $1 billion, we'll provide a circus atmosphere pretending the whole world is watching us be really civil, evolved, and men of God.
"KSM" will probably get a hung jury, mistrial, and be playing golf with O.J. within a year.
We are giving this criminal during war time a red carpet celebrity treatment. HE is not an American and therefore not entitled to be treated as one.
Obama started this mess in his campaign speeches. "I'm gonna close gitmo". I have read reports that Gitmo is an O.K. prison. After all, why do they deserve to have a palace.
Now Obama has proposed to renovate some prison in Illinois to house them. WE can't afford to renovate anything.
And by the way, Nevada now hates him cause he's opened his piehole and run down the LasVegas scene 2 times now. Gov. of LV says no apology will be accepted this second time. Guess he's put his big foot in his mouth this time.

D7 I don't think the American people would appreciate you saying that after they showed up in Haiti (as third according to you), but now they are running front and center with contributions and aid and people going to help.
We'll be helping Haiti for years. How long will China be there? Oh yeah, China can sent those poison laden toys and jewelry that they tried to sell to our children. That will help! (sarcastic comment)
America and Americans are generous and loving. There are a few hate-filled mongrels l ike you. Always spewing hate towards this country and it's people.
"We simply cannot execute them in front of a firing squad without due process.

The use of Predators to strike enclaves amounts to execution without trial. Plus the added collateral deaths. "War is hell".
We could do as the Israelis appear to have done last week. A top Hamas military leader, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, was assassinated in a Dubai hotel room. According to reports, he was electrocuted with some kind of device applied to his head, he was injected with a heart-stopping drug, suffocated with a pillow and was also beaten before he died. His documents were photo'd and a "Do Not Disturb" sign was hung on the door.

What does that mean? A typo is not a slur! Or don't you know the difference? There are a lot of typos on this post. Why are you off subject?
Can't you focus this early?
According to David Poile, no hockey players have been used in any military operation to date.
More of Dragon's hysteria...
sid - maybe you just to know how to construct a comment. You addressed D7 and what I responded to was the last sentence in that comment. If not a slur, what was it? Surely you aren't naive enough to think I was referring the your l ike!
sid - OOPS That should be that maybe you "don't" know how!
An Iranian physicist Massoud Ali-Mohammadi, was assasssinated last month in Tehran. Again, the prime suspect is the state of Israel. Here's a link:

Hey, the Israelis have used assassination as a tactic since the earliest days, they killed the UN's first peace envoy, Count Bernadotte, in 1948.
Mordechai Vanunu and others claim that the Mossad had a hand in the JFK assassination, as JFK did not want Israel to get nukes.
With Obama's popularity, in Israel, in the single digits, anything can happen. Stay tuned.

k3 - Bush did last week in a gay piano bar in dallas texas :)
Morning everybody - blood sugar was 74 this morning so I had to grab something to eat before I joined you - Loner in a cheerleader outfit waving pompoms - had trouble keeping the food down :)
Morning morning

Mine was 123 today Dusty. It is slowly coming down. Maybe I can have a coke some day. lol
sid, on one hand you seem to be bragging about our generocity toward Haiti then bemoaning it in the next sentence!
Hi DustyU, hope you are all good now and your blood sugar is good.

sid - OOPS That should be that maybe you "don't" know how!
And so you made an error and caught it. Good for you. You are now nominated to the CP sainthood, hall of flame!
Capt. I know the Ku-Klux is alive, but they are such a small minut part of the process of life. They are iddy biddy dinky winky peons in the big picture. They sort of fit in with the hate-filled black panthers and the hate filled people like them. They are not the Majority of people.
Most people can "live and let live". So let's focus on the good today.
One of my neighbors is in the hospital at age 58 with 3 heart attacks and 2 strokes in 3 weeks; the other neighbor's husband has just been given a parkinson's diagnosis and losing eye sight; as well her young son has dibilitating muscle disease and is in wheel chair; and now on Feb. 2, her oldest son (around 40) died from liver cancer. There is so much suffering in the world. Just for today, let's be peaceful.
Let's leave the hate groups under the rug today and just be nice.
Thanks DustyU for always bringing sunshine to this board. You are a hero.
Capt - hint for you -it's not the sugar that keeps it high - watch the carbs - not more than 1 carb item per meal :)
123 is still pretty good :)

sid, on one hand you seem to be bragging about our generocity toward Haiti then bemoaning it in the next sentence!
No, I was making reference (rather vaguely) to the fact that when the quake hit, D7 proudly announced that Italy and China were FIRST into Haiti; U.S. was lagging he said.
So I"m being sarcastic by saying that China will re-route the toxic toys. After all, we caught them in the act. China cares about who? China.
I did not bemoan OUR (U.S.) generosity. You are misreading the post.
check out Southern Poverty Law Center to see how many dangerous home grown terrorists are out there - and they're not "iddy biddy dinky winky peons." just ask the people the terrorize.
k3 - actually I believe congress did right after 911 - declared a state of war against terror - somebody correct me if I'm wrong about that :)
so China didn't help at all and whatever help they did provide was disingenuous? that's a very judgemental and unfair evaluation.
"home grown"...like in a garden?
Dusty, declaring a state of war against "terror" is vague at best. that's the problem i had with it. who defines "terror"? in my opinion, Israel terrorizes the Palestinians.
By: house_of_pain on 2/3/10 at 8:58
"home grown"...like in a garden?
Exactly!
blanket - true - while hiding behind the facade of being persecuted themselves :(
And being vague about it was on purpose - gave juniorcheney a blank check :(
Ames: You need to "Keep Up With the Kardashians". They are like totally, your speed.
Vacant, vacous, hollow, superficial, yet act like they're in command and have insight.
You asked why the USA wants to "try" the terrorists in court. I said it's "all for show".
Then, you itemize your neighbor's cancers, deaths, and health problems.
I'd love to be a cop who asks you to, "walk a straight line". You couldn't, sober.
Good morning all. Just FYI, my sugar was 135 this morning...not too good! I'm working on it though. Damnit! I love my carbs! LOL
As for the commentary, I have no opinion. On with produce prices!
Morning house - you seem to have a real fixation about sid's garden :)
RAH - RAH - SISS - BOOM - BAH
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA
too many carbs are bad. my favorite foods are all high in carbs. i'd be in sorry shape if i were diabetic.
I'm already in therapy for that, Dusty. Doc says I'm making progress.
house - psychiatrist for the carb addiction? :)
House sorry - I lost track - for the garden fixation :)
D7 - Wasting you time! Either that went over her head, thinking up "another excuse" to ignore it or just plane doesn't comprehend.
By: Blanketnazi2 on 2/3/10 at 8:58

I don't drink and drive D7; not like you do. And I do not watch the Kardashians like you do. How would you know how they "act" unless you are glued to the BOOB toob when they are on? So now we know what you do when you're alone. Get your hands out of your pockets, you creep!
And you skipped the segway: "So let's focus on the good today."
Pray for those in the world who need prayer.
Yep sid, I caught another mistake (plane should be plain). Can I qualify for president of the club now? I know from your comments, I would need your support. NOT!
