Viewpoints: Having Gordon for tea

Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 10:45pm

President Obama wants his health care plan to be passed before March 18. That means we must act now and "Blue Dog Democrat" Bart Gordon [District 6 Congressman] is our target. [Join the Tennessee Tea Party at noon Wednesday at his office, 305 W. Maple St., in Murfreesboro.]

Gordon voted for the bill in the Energy & Commerce Committee before opposing it on the floor. On Thursday Gordon released a statement suggesting the cost-containment measures that President Obama proposed earlier this week to appeal to Republicans had steered the bill into more favorable territory.

He said, "I voted against the House bill in November because it expanded coverage but did not do enough to bring down costs. I'm pleased to see the discussion moving into a more fiscally responsible direction now."

With Gordon retiring, many fear he'll feel he "has nothing to lose" by voting for this monstrosity of a bill. He must remind him that he does in fact have a lot to lose if this bill passes, indeed we all do.

Oh, sorry, thought you were looking for some. I would take them but I detest guns. Now if you had a guillotine or gas chamber we'd talk...

"I here that Alberta is a nice place to live."

Is there any coincidence that the rate of Canadians immigrating to America has declined significantly over the last few years?

By the way, moving out of this country to another is damned near impossible. The fact is, no one wants us. Moving to Canada is possible, but still a huge hassle.

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 12:31

Why would they want us?

The one thing I have going for myself is that I know hockey...they may let me in for that...lol

Gas chamber, the ever-lasting high!

G, it's too cold in Alberta!

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 1:52

I think it was Andy Brown, Darge.

By: dargent7 on 3/10/10 at 1:57

gd: Who's Andy Brown?
I believe it was New York Ranger's (Eddie) Giacomo. (it's from memory).

Who's the highest scoring NHL defenseman? (even House would get this one).

A Public Service Announcement:
If your Toyota Prius accelerates out of control, put it in neutral...dumb arse!

Slacker, it's just such a new concept - not one we're used to doing. You know, getting stuck in a car with it's own mind - doing 95. I guess a few more people will have to experience it. Then we'll have workshops set up around the country on how to stop a runaway Toyota (or other vehicle).

It sounds like one of those freaky circumstances where one would wish for the calm of Sully, the pilot, who landed safely in the Hudson. All of us are not equipped with that sound of a mind - speaking only for myself of course.

MamaG - That only hits a blank wall!

Couldn't resist coming on here at 12:38 a.m. Mama, point proven to whom? Youm?
Bfra, thank goodness I'm a blank wall. I get to have my life shaped by ya'll anonymous posters and that makes me a better person. Or does it?

All said in good fun after one/half beer went to my half lit, empty head.

Okay, guys...it's way too slow around here today. Any SEC tournament predictions?

By: Kosh III on 3/10/10 at 2:33

What the Frak??

i was digging unsuccessfully for the bill relating to mountaintop removal when I came across this

"HB 1746 Physicians and Surgeons - As introduced, revises regulation of billing for cytopathology services to refer instead to "anatomic pathology services.""

Don't they have anything better to do? How about go home!

By: house_of_pain on 3/10/10 at 2:35

Tomorrow:
S.C. over Bama
U.T. over LSU
FL over Aub.
Hogs over Dawgs

Is that this week, House? Not a big SEC fan, so I'll go with a safe pick...UK

Booo...hiss...unless Ashley Judd gets really excited, and removes her top...

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 2:49

Ok, they were having local yahoos debate KY over TN on 104.5...the KY guy says his state is superior because of caves and Billy Ray Cyrus...and that the "state of east TN should not be in the union"...the TN guy says that his state is better because we have the NFL and hills.

Conclusion: I'll never get that time I spent listening back.

Sidney, I can assure you that I was cutting some serious zzz-age at 12:38 AM. Are you really as dumb as you act on here? Or are you just a natural blond? My post from yesterday was probably at 12:38 PM. Sheesh!!!

By: MamaG on 3/10/10 at 2:52

G, too bad the TN guy didn't mention we have Elvis and that in northeastern KY they hang federal marshalls! LOL

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 2:55

I kinda went numb after the whole "state of east TN" remark...

Have a good evening everyone!

Mama, just in case you don't know (and why would you?), I had to go to WORK yesterday; then out on the town. So I missed all the fun and signed on at 12:338 a.m. It was lonely.
But nonetheless, it was satisfying. You know, like drinking a big gulp of real coca cola and then having a long belch!

Are you discriminating against blondes now? That is politically incorrect. What if Mrs. Obama dyes her hair blonde? Would you still use that joke? No, I'm a natural old, frizzy gray headed woman who spends $1200 a year on dye jobs that look like "dye jobs".

Sheesh! Glad you were asleep at 12:38 a.m. What color "was" your hair? And if I get a tattoo, do they let you get your whole body numbed? OR is it just cold turkey pain? (serious question)

By: BenDover on 3/10/10 at 3:21

Dooley... I'm not a buffoon and I DO understand politics , law, the Constitution arguably better than 95% of the population does. How is it I find the Tea Partiers agreeable and you and your ilk exude a frothing contempt for them? You label them with slurs like tea-baggers rather than address their points. I don’t disagree that there are some people in the movement who are dumber than stones but the liberals have their useful idiot followers too – in my mind in much greater number and fervor – and certainly more self-assured and haughty in their lack of understanding and the misinformation that drives them.

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 3:40

Ben, do you have any Grey Poupon?

By: bfra on 3/10/10 at 3:41

Sid - Bfra, thank goodness I'm a blank wall. I get to have my life shaped by ya'll anonymous posters and that makes me a better person. Or does it?

Yep! A blank wall!

By: Kosh III on 3/10/10 at 3:41

Address their points?

What I hear is no taxes---period. Well, sometimes taxes need to be raised.
for instance, even though it was stupid and wrong and I said so from the first, once Bush started his imperial expansion into Iraq, he should have paid for it rather than hiding it in budget gimmicks. Where were the Tea folks? O yeah, cheering him on.

I hear nothing about minding our own business, non-interference, not isolationism. Instead I hear jingoistic rants in favor of MORE imperialism---except from the Ron Paul faction.

Less government? That's the rhetoric, but I see conservatives and even Ron Paul trying to inpose their values (eg. sexuality) on others thru the coercive power of the state. Funny how the only businesses that needs more regulation is sex and liquor and drugs.
Do you support women having the freedom to sell sex? Why not? It's HER body and it's a physical service just like a Titan sells his body for physical service to a client (fan)

And how about the blatant racist comments of Tancredo & Co which were cheerfully embraced last month at Opryland?

By: bfra on 3/10/10 at 3:44

Kosh - What about the doctor that killed 2 people, caught several times selling dope and he wants his license back? WAAAAAAAAA

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 3:48

Like I said before, these tea baggers had no problem with government expanding under Bush. They're hypocrites. End of story.

By: bfra on 3/10/10 at 3:48

Sid - As to the tatoo, maybe they can put it on top on your head and the heat might stir something!

By: BenDover on 3/10/10 at 3:58

That crew was screaming equally as loud about budget expansion under Bush. I was one of the few people who supported Bush's Keynesian spending in the down-turn after 9/11.

Bush left office with approval ratings in the low 30s I think. All the liberals hated him and about half the conservatives.

By: brrrrk on 3/10/10 at 4:01

Kosh III,

It all goes back to Jude Wanniski and his "Two Santa Claus Theory ".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Wanniski

While Republicans are in office they cut taxes and spend like crazy. It happened during the Reagan administration, to some degree during that Bush I administration (even he had to eventually raise taxes), and then went on steroids during the Bush II administration. Remember, it was Dick Cheney who said, "Reagan taught us deficits don't matter."

But then, once out of power they start complaining about the deficit and spending. And what's the first thing on their list of things to cut? Any program that actually benefits the average American.

By: Kosh III on 3/10/10 at 4:04

Ben,

What has your view got to do with it? I was responding to the general points of the Tea folks. Do you consider yourself part?

And I NEVER heard screaming from the right aside from a few like Jim Cooper who is not a Tea person.
When did Palin complain?

By: gdiafante on 3/10/10 at 4:05

No they weren't, Ben. They were too busy labeling anyone who dissented against the war as a traitor.

You're right Brrrk. The only way to help the average American is corporate welfare. Anything else is Socialism/Communism...

The inmates are running the asylum...

What has as murdering doctor got to do with Tea Partiers?

Besides he just wants to sell more drugs to Limbaugh. :)

By: bfra on 3/10/10 at 4:20

Kosh - Doctors probably attend tea parties, too! lol As to relevance, none, just saw early where you mentions drs. and seeing this in the news, thought it worth mentioning.

By: house_of_pain on 3/10/10 at 4:27

Kosh, do you mean Rand Paul? He's a total looney.

By: house_of_pain on 3/10/10 at 4:28

How dare you stray off topic, bfra...

By: bfra on 3/10/10 at 4:29

I know house, I am really bad today!

By: house_of_pain on 3/10/10 at 4:45

Chuck Norris turns 70 today. Seven. Zero.

By: slacker on 3/10/10 at 4:48

Well... I had a little time on my hands, so I watched Harry Smiths colonoscopy. Katie Couric, the doc, and the camera crew, were cracking wise... and a fine time was had by all.

By: house_of_pain on 3/10/10 at 4:50

Did they find Harry's 1968 VW, slacker?

By: slacker on 3/10/10 at 5:02

pain, no vehicles were found. I think Harry is expecting tons of fan mail, he's rather proud of that colon of his.

By: BenDover on 3/10/10 at 5:06

Chuck Norris once hosted a youth drug abuse counseling session... there were no survivors.

By: MamaG on 3/10/10 at 5:14

sidney, most reputable tattoo places will not tattoo anyone intoxicated if they are aware of it. you bleed more if you have alcohol in your system anyway. you don't want that. and fyi, i'm a redhead.

By: MamaG on 3/10/10 at 5:14

WOW, the big 7-0, huh? I'm impressed he's still kicking!

By: slacker on 3/10/10 at 5:16

Chuck Norris ate an entire birthday cake, before someone could tell him there was a stripper inside.

By: MamaG on 3/10/10 at 5:17

You know, March is colon cancer awareness month...if you haven't had a colonoscopy and you're 50 or more or have a history of colon cancer in your immediate family, you need to get one! Or, if you have any 'problems,' you should get one.

By: house_of_pain on 3/10/10 at 5:20

I'd hate to be the one standing by the door at a surprise birthday party for Chuck.

By: MamaG on 3/10/10 at 5:21

house, it would be the last party you ever attended!
