With the recent elections, it was common to see George Bush, Al Gore and Joe Lieberman on TV and in the news regularly. Bush was in a fund-raising frenzy for the elections, while Gore and Lieberman were jockeying for position on down the road. I recently had this dream about a presidential campaign.
You know why elections get so much news coverage? Reporters are lazy, that's why. For them, an election is like a vacation. Their work is handed to them by publicity machines feeding them party-line press releases, video clips, sound bites and photo-ops.
Media sloths recycle this debris for audiences who don't care who gets nominated. People would rather watch naked savages on an island eating disgusting things like bugs, rats and broccoli.
Newspersons pretend party conventions are important when everybody already knows who the nominee is. Delegates behave like English soccer hooligans in a stadium brawl.
When the election news glut begins, I try to avoid all news sources by driving around outside radio range on scenic back roads all day
