Nashville’s rock station WRQQ-97.1-FM is now the flagship station for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the station announced Thursday.
The new affiliate partnership gets the green flag on Saturday when it broadcasts lap-by-lap coverage of the Daytona 500 (the first official points race of 2010). Now in its 62nd season, NASCAR ranks among the most popular sports and has been deemed the No. 1 spectator sport in the United States.
“We are absolutely ecstatic to be partnering with such a recognizable and respectable brand as NASCAR,” said Mark Sullivan, senior vice president and general manager of Cumulus Nashville, 97.1's parent company. “Racing has always been part of the fabric of middle-Tennessee and we are happy to make it part of the tapestry of Nashville’s rock station, 97.1 RQQ.”
The Daytona coverage will start at 11 a.m. Saturday.
