Michael Jackson, a pop music icon who transformed himself from a child star at Motown to a 1980s music video innovator, has died in Los Angeles, several news agencies have reported.
He was 50.
According to reports, paramedics who were dispatched Thursday afternoon to Jackson’s Holmby Hills home found the entertainer in cardiac arrest and worked to revive him.
Conflicting news reports make it difficult to know whether died at the home or at UCLA Medical Center, where he was rushed. Hospital staff apparently did, however, attempt to resuscitate him unsuccessfully.
Jackson’s death follows on the heels of two other celebrity passings — actress and model Farrah Fawcett, and television icon Ed McMahon.
