Shrek proves crowd-pleaser

Computer-generated, big-money films like the Toy Story tales, Antz and now Shrek, have displaced the days of simple cartoon characters and small-budget animation.

This story of an ogre, a wise-cracking donkey and assorted other weird and fictional creatures has already proven an enormous box office hit, earning more than $100 million over the last few weeks and generating a sequel. It has also garnered Dreamworks a short victory in their on-going war with Disney over who will rule the animation roost, although Disney will shortly weigh in with Atlantis.
