Sylvan Park to get bar called Neighbors

Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 5:01pm

The bustling curve at Murphy Road and 46th Avenue is about to get busier, with a new restaurant and bar called Neighbors of Sylvan Park opening as early as May.

Billed as a neighborhood spot serving gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, beer and wine, “Neighbors” will join McCabe Pub, The Local Taco, Park Café and Café Nonna as evening drink and dining options on the same stretch in Sylvan Park.

“It’s a neighborhood place,” said Jody Myers, the establishment’s owner, who is also a nearby resident. “We’re going to have signs and old maps of the area hanging on the walls. It’s going to feel neighborly. That’s what it’s really all about.”

“Neighbors” will take the place of property formerly housing boutique dog store at 4425-A Murphy Road. A covered deck has been installed at the new establishment’s rear.

Myers, who has a background at the old Blue Moon Lagoon off Robertson Road, said he hasn’t finalized the restaurant’s hours, but said from Monday through Wednesday it would be open only during the evening. Smoking won’t be permitted inside.

Myers is to go before the Metro beer board later this week to receive a beer license for “Neighbors.”

Let's see, a beauty parlour on one side, a pet adoption storefront on the other.

Mmmmm, smells like good eating to me!

Kinda a weird location in a crampt strip line of shops.
I'd wish someone would buy that white hull of a bld. across the street next to Sylvan Diner. It used to be what looks like a gas station in the 50's and 60's.

I think that's where McCabé's stores its drunks before they wander down to disrupt the next SPNA meeting.

HP: I'm fluent in gang grafitti. All the symbols on that white building are gang related.
Again, something should be done with it. McCabes II or something.

Parking will be an issue at that location, but since I live within walking distance, it won't be an issue for me. I'll definitely check the place out.

"pain" And think about all the monetary savings from not getting those DUI's.

Yeah, I agree with the other posted; that old white gas station bldg is an eyesore and has been for years! And parking is tough over there. But the area could use an alternative to McCabe's (their food is "so so" and pricey) so if the food wow's at Neighbor's, they should do okay as denizens of the area won't have to drive too far to have a "meal moment" that won't stress their budgets or their gas tanks.

hooray for neighbors!!! agree something is needed to offset mccabe"s exorbitantly high prices, the crappy staff attitudes, and the obnoxious, loud-mouthed pub owner who has quite a knack for running-off customers on a daily basis.

They plan to be open until 2:00 a.m. Since I live in a direct line with the deck, i am not thrilled. I went over there to talk with the manager and he was somewhat of a condescending jerk. He said most of his "regulars" came from our complex. How can he have regulars when they have only been open a week? And since there is not even enough parking for Local Taco, I do not see it ending well. The winner in all of this is probably going to be the towing company that hauls cars fro our complex.
