Buoyed by a YouTube video and budding media coverage, an 18-year-old California native is taking his celebrity crush to the next level.
Luke Walton, who graduated high school just last month, produced a YouTube video where he asked country music superstar Taylor Swift out on a date. Walton figured the video gimmick would be something he and his friend laughed about and that was it.
Something surprising happened, however. The video picked up popularity on YouTube and has even garnered media coverage from the local NBC affiliate in San Diego.
“I did a video because I was talking with my friend Jonathan and he suggested I turn my little dream into reality,” Walton said.
Now Walton is taking his friendly courtship of Swift to the next level. He’s coming to Nashville on July 1 and hoping to catch her attention. Already the YouTube video has received 60,000 YouTube views and he’s hoping to garner more coverage when he visits Music City.
Walton will be enrolling at the University of Southern California in the fall and majoring in popular music. His YouTube video features a date offer for Swift and a rendition of her hit song “Love Story.”
Despite his media campaign picking up steam, Walton’s overture has not received an acknowledgment just yet from its intended audience.
“I have not gotten a response, so that’s one of the reasons for the visit,” Walton said. “I hope she notices.”
