About the Mars One mission: I wanted to apply. Aside from the fact that my boyfriend wasn't too excited about it, the application costs $38 (with no refund if the project goes completely defunct) and right now there is little to no solid science behind what they are saying they would like to do. So it's basically a giant kickstarter that has raised almost $3 million by capitalizing on people's dreams of going into space.
If nothing else, maybe it will demonstrate to the powers that be that people are still passionate about space exploration, to the point that they will put their own money down if there is even the slimmest chance of an exciting project coming to fruition.
