Analysis: Cutler likely not coming to Titans

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 12:00am

Much like the Terrell Owens rumor a week or so ago, the Jay Cutler scuttlebutt regarding the Titans has seemingly taken on a life of its own.

A report in the Denver Post indicated that Cutler’s preference as far as a trade destination was to come to Tennessee, where he has a home in Nashville and still has many of his old college running buddies around town as well.

That is probably accurate, but it doesn’t enhance the chances of Cutler coming here one bit.

Yes, the Titans need to add another quarterback to go with Kerry Collins and Vince Young, it won’t be Cutler. When they re-signed Collins for two years at $15 million, the Titans committed themselves to the 36-year-old veteran for the foreseeable future.

Had the whole Cutler saga in Denver unfolded before they re-signed Collins, then perhaps it could have been a long shot option. But even then, it would have been a long shot at best. The Titans didn’t see fit to take Cutler in 2006 when they had the chance, opting instead for Young.

The next quarterback to join the Titans will probably be either a backup along the lines of Patrick Ramsey who visited here last week or a prospect in the draft to groom once Collins is gone and if Young hasn’t righted his situation by then.

Does anyone really believe this has a shot of happening?

slight chance, but the titans are better off trading both Collins and Young for Cutler

This is an issue the media is stirring up.Football fans know it ain't gonna happen.Cutler absolutely would NOT be a good fit here.

I would LOVE to see Cutler here, and he would make a good fit (lest we forget he and 'Dinger worked together in Denver). The city would embrace him, too. I like Collins a lot and am extremely happy about what he did last year, but the Titans should move Vince one way or another and bring in Cutler. I know he wants to be a starter, but KC just might take $3.5M a year to be a backup

It hacks me off because I know they won't do it but I sure wish the Titans would trade for Cutler. I guess we'll limp along with what we have. If they got Cutler he would be our quarterback for at least 7 or 8 more years. It's kind of like a poor kid at Christmas knowing that you aren't going to get what you really want!

I'm not convinced that he's really that good of a QB.

4,500 yards passing and pro-bowl...what more can one man do?...especially when he had no one to protect him and no RB's...geezVanDSIRROM VandySportsNews.com

i always love it when people say stuff like maybe it would've happened before Collins was signed but not now... b/c it shows that the guy saying it has no idea what he's talking about. It couldn't have happened before he signed b/c Collins would been a huge part of the deal. Denver wants a good consistent vet QB in the deal that would limit mistake while anothe guy learns. Collins would be perfect and if they Titans didn't have him then they'd be in the same shape as NY, Tampa and probably even Washington. They'd want him but wouldn't have what it would take to get him. There's a reason trade rumors sending him to NY are part of a 3team trade that includes Cleveland's Quinn.

He's not that good because he hasn't won a playoff game, right ycartrob and Equiasdnas?Because as we all know, football is a one man game.
