Nashville’s Brian Baker inched closer Tuesday to qualifying for the main draw at Wimbledon.
Down 0-3 in the second set, Baker rallied to score a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Denis Gremelmayr of Germany in the second round of the Wimbledon men’s qualifying tournament, located just outside London.
Baker, who is No. 124 in ITP world rankings, can land a berth in the main draw with a victory Wednesday. Baker, the No. 11 seed, plays Maxime Teixeira of France, who is ranked No. 216.
Wednesday’s qualifying winners will claim the final 16 spots in the 128-player tournament, which opens Monday. The Wimbledon draw will be made Friday.
Baker has won 10 of his last 12 matches, a stretch that includes two victories this week and a successful run into the French Open field. He has overcome numerous physical ailments and operations over the years.
