Belmont’s Mike Strickland was named 2008-09 Under Armour Division I Southeast Region Athletic Director of the Year on Tuesday.
Strickland was one of 29 honorees who were honored among the seven membership divisions of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Belmont won Atlantic Sun Conference championships in men’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s soccer and volleyball during the 2008-09 academic year. The university also won its seventh Atlantic Sun All-Academic Trophy in eight years.
Since 2001-02 when Belmont joined the Atlantic Sun, the university has won more championships (26) than any other conference member.
Strickland has been Belmont’s AD since 1996.
“I've known Mike for a long time, and this honor is richly deserved,” Belmont Associate Athletic Director Steve Barrick said in a release from the university. “Mike's leadership and vision for our program have been central to our successes. He creates an environment where coaches, staff, and most importantly, student-athletes, can thrive.”
The Southeast Region consists of colleges and universities in Alabama, Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
