Boulevard teams going in opposite directions

The Battle of the Boulevard game between Belmont and Lipscomb often features two of the best teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

This time, it features teams going in opposite directions.

Belmont (8-6, 4-1 A-Sun) has won three consecutive games. Lipscomb, meanwhile, has dropped two in a row.

But nothing could get the Bisons going in the right direction again better than a road victory tonight over the rival Bruins.

Belmont’s dynamic duo of forward Matthew Dotson and guard Alex Renfroe have been leading the way in the Bruins’ winning streak.

Both are averaging 15.3 points per game in the last three games. Renfroe, who transferred to Belmont after starring at Trevecca, has been an all-around stat stuffer as well. He’s averaging eight rebounds per game in the last three. Renfroe is Belmont’s leading scorer (13.4) and rebounder (6.2) this season.

Sophomore center Adnan Hodzic has been the leader for Lipscomb this season, averaging 15.7 points per game and 7.2 rebounds.

But Michael Teller and Josh Slater have come of late as well. Slater, a sophomore guard who starred at David Lipscomb High, is averaging 9.6 points and 3.8 rebounds. Teller is putting up averages of 10.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Meanwhile, the Belmont and Lipscomb women also battle at 5 p.m. The Lady Bruins are 5-0 in the Atlantic Sun. Junior guard Amber Rockwell is averaging 16.2 points per game in conference contests for the Bruins.

The Lady Bisons are 1-4 in league play and are led by Jenna Bartsokas, who is averaging 12.1 points.
