CB Miller visits Titans; Carr off to visit Patriots

The Tennessee Titans hosted cornerback Justin Miller on Wednesday at Baptist Sports Park.

Miller, formerly of the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders, would be an option as a backup cornerback and kick returner, especially if the Titans are unable to re-sign free agent Chris Carr. Tennessee has depth concerns in the secondary, as the Titans have lost Eric King to Detroit and are not expected to re-sign free agents Reynaldo Hill and Tyrone Poole.

However, the Titans are believed to have fairly serious interest in the 25-year-old Owensboro, Ky., native regardless of what happens with Carr, who has taken free agent visits to Detroit and Cleveland.

Miller has been a standout kickoff return man in his career with five career touchdowns in that capacity.

He was released by the Jets in the middle of last season, and the Titans entertained making a run at Miller then. However, he elected to sign with the Raiders and finished the 2008 season there.

Miller was a Jets’ second-round pick in 2005 and made the Pro Bowl in 2006 as a kickoff returner.

CARR STILL TRAVELING: Meanwhile, Carr is on his way to his third stop in free agency, this time to the New England Patriots.

Carr was en route to Foxboro, Mass., on Wednesday, according to a league source after finishing visits with Detroit and Cleveland earlier this week.

The Titans still have interest in keeping Carr and have been kept in the loop regarding retaining him.

“He enjoyed his visit in Cleveland and we’ll just have to see how everything sorts out. We are still in touch with the Titans, and we’ll see if they’re still competitive after tomorrow,” Carr’s agent Buddy Baker said.

Carr, who helped Tennessee rank No. 1 in kickoff returns in 2008, would like to find a situation where he could possibly play himself into more defensive snaps. Currently with the Titans, he would figure as the dimeback behind starters Nick Harper and Cortland Finnegan and nickelback Vincent Fuller.
