Another Vanderbilt football player could join the Chicago Bears.
Wide receiver George Smith was offered a tryout opportunity with Chicago on Monday. A day earlier, Chicago chose cornerback D.J. Moore in the fourth round (119th overall) of the NFL Draft.
The Bears already had four former Commodores – quarterback Jay Cutler, linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer, tackle Chris Williams and wide receiver Earl Bennett.
Smith was a team captain last fall, his sixth season with the team. He was sidelined for 18 months of his college career by an illness, which caused temporary paralysis, and finished with 89 receptions for 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns.
He remains in discussions with several teams regarding the possibility of a free agent contract.
