CITY PAPER CAMP CONFIDENTIAL
Monday, Aug. 18, 2008
PLAY OF THE DAY: It doesn’t happen often, but a hit by linebacker David Thornton actually knocked the football out of Alge Crumpler’s hands for a fumble in Monday’s practice. Crumpler soon redeemed himself in goal-line offense drill catching a tipped pass from Vince Young for a nice play.
TOPIC OF CONVERSATION: What else, but the fight between center Kevin Mawae and defensive tackle Tony Brown. The Titans were in a blitz period and Brown became entangled with Mawae, who was pass protecting in the pocket. After a bit of jousting, Brown shoved Mawae, and the melee was on with a host of players involved, including Enoka Lucas pinning Jacob Ford to the ground.
WORTH NOTING: With LenDale White sitting out nursing some sore ribs, first-round pick Chris Johnson took all the first-team reps during Monday’s practice.
INJURIES: Titans coach Jeff Fisher said it is unlikely that linebacker Keith Bulluck (calf) and receiver Lavelle Hawkins (ankle) would play Friday night. Kicker Rob Bironas (groin) rode the stationary bike, while White (ribs), David Stewart (knee), Chris Carr (shoulder), Cary Williams (quad) and Colin Allred (calf). Albert Haynesworth was backed down after individual work because of soreness, while Vincent Fuller was excused from practice.
KEEP AN EYE ON: Marquice Cole, fresh off chasing down Oakland running back Adimchhinobi Echemandu and preventing a game-clinching touchdown, made a nice play one-on-one against Chris Davis (Florida State) by running stride for stride with him and picking off a Kerry Collins pass.
