PLAY OF THE DAY: It isn’t often Jeff Fisher stops practice over a play that is made, but he took issues during the first practice in full pads when linebacker Stephen Tulloch launched himself toward fullback Casey Cramer, knocking him to the ground and raising Fisher’s ire. The coach stopped practice and, in so many words, warned players that they needed to learn how to practice without risking their teammates to injury. Before and after the Tulloch play, Eugene Amano and Kyle Vanden Bosch got into scraps at the end of plays.
The runner-up came from the morning practice when Brandon Jones made a grab between Eric King and Donnie Nickey on a downfield throw from Vince Young.
TOPIC OF CONVERSATION: The heat was the major topic making the rounds as the first full day of pads arrived. In the afternoon, the heat index was said to be 99 degrees, but the morning practice was also performed under steamy conditions. After the morning practice was over, quarterback Vince Young and receiver Biren Ealy were both lying prone on the floor of the locker room trying to cool off and relax for a few moments.
WORTH NOTING: With Rob Bironas out with a groin strain, the Titans did not have a field goal period in the afternoon practice, but will do so on Wednesday with third-string quarterback Ingle Martin doing the place kicks. Martin stayed out after practice working on his field goal kicking.
KEEP AN EYE ON: David Stewart has a reputation for playing to the end of the whistle, and practice is no exception. During a goal-line period. Stewart kept going at the end of the play and knocked the helmet of Jacob Ford off his head.
