Clarke kept under wraps in Vanderbilt women's regular season finale

After Tiffany Clarke scored eight of her team’s first 10 points, Georgia bottled up Vanderbilt’s leading scorer.

Clarke finished with 13 points and the Commodores came up short in the regular-season finale. They lost 55-50 at No. 11 Georgia.

Vanderbilt (19-10, 9-7 Southeastern Conference) earned the No. 7 seed in the SEC Tournament, which begins Wednesday in Duluth, Ga. It will play Missouri, the No. 10 seed, 5 p.m. Thursday.

Clarke made her first three shots, including a layup for a 10-7 lead with 15:58 left in the first half. Georgia (24-5, 12-4) finished the half on a 14-4 run and was up 27-17 at  halftime.

The Bulldogs led by 12 in the second half and maintained an advantage throughout. Twice  in the last 22 seconds  Commodores pulled within four but Georgia answered.

Vanderbilt outshot and outrebounded the Bulldogs but committed 21 turnovers to snap a three-game winning streak.

Vanderbilt point guard Jasmine Lister led all scorers with 17 points. Clarke, who had scored at least 20 points in three straight games, missed nine of 14 shots and finished with nine rebounds.

Jasmine Hassell led Georgia with 16 points.
