Commentary: Now it’s Young’s turn to ‘make it rain?’

Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 8:40pm

Just when you thought it was safe to been seen in the company of Nelly again, the ghost of Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones’ past has become part of Vince Young’s ‘present.’

A new video, courtesy of, surfaced this week showing Titans quarterback Young “making it rain” at one of the rapper’s shows.

Relegated to a backup role and still smarting from several highly publicized events last year, Young had pledged to keep a low profile and to work hard to try and dislodge the starting job back from Kerry Collins.

But he probably should have exercised better judgment than that, given that his own former teammate Jones brought the term “making it rain” into the American vernacular with the infamous Las Vegas Minxx Gentleman’s Club incident that ultimately cost him his Titans career and a lot of cash.

While throwing the dollar bills into the air at the charity event obviously cannot be compared on the same level as Pacman’s stupidity that led to the Minxx melee and shooting, it still isn’t something you want to see from your once and supposed future quarterback.

I’ll give Young this much: He’s now saying the right things at least as he tries to salvage his career, but still he should exercise extreme caution in both the locker room and his private life.

Somehow, I can’t imagine Peyton Manning or Donovan McNabb “making it rain” during their off time.

Terry, let their private lives be private unless they are breaking the law.

I am not a big Vince Young fan but this article is a low blow and a I wish that it had not been written.

Thanks, Frank!

Way to go, Terry, you've reached a new low.
Comparing VY to Punkman? Seriously.

This was a waste of time reading this article. What are you going to report next? Maybe VY will roll thru a stop sign?

what seems to be the problem? is the city paper jealous that he does have a life or could it be you need something to help save your job? this is totally no news.

By: Nashvols111 on 5/28/09 at 6:44

This is news. This proves VY is that STUPID where he would do something that our city has a horrible experience with. It just shows he does not think before he acts, but I guess we could figure that out because of his TD/INT ratio.

with that arm ! wonder where all them bills flew , guess they hit the floor , MAYBE !

SMH. This explicitly shows the bias that this paper has against Vince Young. This is a joke of an article and should not have been published. By the way, I watched the video; he was not "making it rain". Simply throwing a couple of dollars to some people is not making it rain, but I guess if you don't know and you think your readers don't know either, you can just say anything and we'll believe it.

All this commentary does is show those who still have their heads in the sand that Young has yet to mature or learn from his mistakes. And that is time in the NFL is quickly coming to an end.

Folks, this is NOT a news article. It clearly says "COMMENTARY" at the top. That means this is just one person's opinion and he is sharing some information on a very high profile athlete in this city.

It's clear that most comments that follow do not agree with Mr. McCormick and neither do I. If it happened, it happened! What the media or the rest of the NFL world wants to make of it is out of your control.

Young's problem is not the video. His main problem is that he is stupid - hasn't the general public figured that out yet? His athletic ability allowed him to excel in college as an ad lib player. He still mistakenly believes he can sit on the bench, staring into space while the defense is on the field, then come on and wing it and succeed. Maybe someone will mercifully deliver a really crushing hit on him in the near-term and get him the hell off the field, because the idiotic coaching staff hasn't yet figured out that he can't compete at this level, or maybe we'll be lucky and Collins can hold up for the season without getting knocked out of too many games.... VY = DUMMY!

Who cares. They are all a bunch of over paid jackasses.

By: TITAN1 on 5/28/09 at 12:52

tim, are you an underpaid jackass?

By: house_of_pain on 5/28/09 at 1:52

TITAN1, many here today are just jealous because they can only 'make it rain'
in their pants.

By: TITAN1 on 5/28/09 at 5:43

h_o_p, it amazes me how the few fans that live here are not Titan fans want to trash the home town team. Then you have the non NFL fans who get off by cutting them down. What a pitiful life they have.
