Fittingly, Tulane University is apparently getting a new Orleans.

Ensworth High star tailback and Div. II Mr. Football finalist Orleans Darkwa has committed to play football at Tulane, according to his prep coach.

“It’s a great fit for him,’’ Coach Ricky Bowers said Tuesday. “He had a very good visit down there. He’s strong in academics where he’ll do well at Tulane and he’ll have a chance to play early on. I’m really excited for him.’’

Darkwa rushed for more than 2,200 yards and 24 touchdowns in leading Tigers to the state football semis his junior year and quarterfinals his senior year. He was also highly recruited by the U.S. Military Academy (Army), Furman, Tennessee State and UT-Chattanooga.

Instead this Orleans in headed to New Orleans to continue his football career.
