Five players cut as Titans reduce roster to 75

The Tennessee Titans reached the NFL-mandated 75-man roster limit on Tuesday when they waived five players.

Wide receiver Bobby Sewall, cornerback Pete Ittersagen, punter Ricky Schmitt, defensive tackle Kareem Brown and linebacker Mike Rivera all were released. Brown and Rivera were waived-injured.

Of that group, Rivera was the most productive in the preseason. He appeared in each of the three contests thus far and had eight tackles, which was the fourth-highest total on the team and second among linebackers.

Brown made three stops and had half a sack in his only preseason appearance, the victory over Arizona. Sewall played in all three games but did not have a pass reception, and Ittersagen made four tackles in the opener against Seattle but sustained a concussion early in the game against Arizona and sat out Saturday’s contest at Carolina.

“It’s always a difficult time,” coach Jeff Fisher said.

Rosters must be reduced to the regular-season limit on 53 on Saturday.

The Titans conclude the preseason Thursday against the New Orleans Saints at LP Field.

Saturdays cuts will be the toughest.
