A pair of former Tennessee Titans wide receivers have been in the news for very different reasons.
Ex-Titan Roydell Williams has signed with the Washington Redskins, according to the team’s official Web site.
Meanwhile, New Orleans wide receiver Biren Ealy, who spent most of his two years in Tennessee on the Titans practice squad, was arrested over the weekend along with a Saints teammate.
Williams, a fourth-round pick of the Titans in 2005, tied for the team lead in receptions with 55 catches in 2007, but suffered a broken ankle in preparation for the team’s playoff game at San Diego that year. The injury required screws and a plate to be inserted into the ankle and Williams played with a noticeable limp during training camp and preseason of 2008.
The Titans released him during final cuts, and Williams subsequently filed a grievance against the club on the pretense that he had been improperly released because of the injury.
Williams, according to the site, was on hand for the opening of the Redskins’ organized team activities on Monday.
The former Tulane star is now reunited with Sherman Smith, who was running backs coach in Tennessee during Williams stay in Nashville. Smith became the Redskins offensive coordinator last year under new head coach Jim Zorn.
Ealy, who had one reception for the Titans in 2007, and teammate Kolomona Kapanui were arrested on charges of obscenity, disturbing the peace and lewd conduct for allegedly urinating in a parking lot of an apartment complex.
