The Tennessee Titans’ search for a third quarterback has taken them to Patrick Ramsey, who is visiting with the team today.
Ramsey, a former first-round pick of the Washington Redskins in 2002 and started 23 games over his first three seasons there.
For the past two seasons, Ramsey has been with the Denver Broncos, where he backed up Jay Cutler. Before that, he spent a season with the New York Jets in 2006 before joining Denver. With the Broncos, he worked in 2007 with Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger.
The Titans are in the market for another quarterback, thanks to the departure of Chris Simms to the Broncos for a two-year, $6 million deal.
Kerry Collins is entrenched as the Titans starter after re-signing for two years and $15 million, while Vince Young is the current No. 2 quarterback. The Titans would like to create competition at that spot in training camp.
Ramsey has completed 511 of 913 passes in his career with 35 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
Ramsey also drew interest this off-season from the New England Patriots and Houston Texans as a free agent.
EX-VU STAR IN FOR VISIT: Former Vanderbilt linebacker Jamie Winborn is in town visiting with the Tennessee Titans Tuesday.
Winborn has been in the NFL since being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2001. He played four-and-a-half seasons in San Francisco, and since that time has been with Jacksonville, Tampa Bay and Denver, where he has played the past two years.
Winborn, 29, started 11 games on the Broncos defense and had 99 total tackles and 11 passes defensed.
The Titans need depth at the linebacker position, as they are thin behind starters Keith Bulluck, David Thornton and Stephen Tulloch. Both Bulluck and Tulloch can be free agents after the 2009 season.
LINEMAN VISITS: Offensive guard Marcus Johnson of the Minnesota Vikings also visited with the Titans on Tuesday.
The Titans are potentially in the market to add another offensive lineman after the departure of backup tackle Daniel Loper to the Detroit Lions last week.
"He had a good visit there, and we're talking," Johnson's agent Richard Moran said.
Johnson played college football for Ole Miss and has started 18 games for the Vikings in his four seasons in Minnesota.
