Full house awaits Vanderbilt, UT women in matchup of SEC's top two teams

The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team hosts No. 4 Tennessee at 5 p.m. on Sunday. All tickets for the game, which can be seen on ESPNU, have been allocated and there will not be tickets available to purchase on Sunday.

The sold out Memorial Gymnasium should make for a neat atmosphere for a special night at Vanderbilt.

In addition to the game, former Vanderbilt standout Chantelle Anderson will have her jersey retired. Plus, as a part of the first women’s basketball reunion, more than 30 former Commodores will be on hand and will be recognized at halftime.

The game pits the two top teams in the SEC.

Tennessee (23-2, 11-0) has won 14 straight and have won its last five meetings against Vanderbilt. The Commodores (17-7, 8-3) have won four in a row and are 5-1 since losing to the Lady Vols on Jan. 15 in Knoxville.

“It is going to take a lot of mental and physical toughness” to win, Vanderbilt coach Melanie Balcomb said. “We know each other very well. We play each other usually three times a season. We know what they do. They know what we do. They are very familiar but it is a mental toughness game and a physical toughness game. We are going to have to step up.”
