Quarterback Keenan Reynolds threw for one touchdown and ran for another but Goodpasture’s offense was unable to keep pace with Alcoa’s in the TSSAA Class 3A title game.

Alcoa scored three touchdowns in just over three minutes in the first quarter and ran off to a 56-14 victory over Goodpasture and its seventh straight title. Four of those championships include victories over Goodpasture in the final contest.

Reynolds broke a streak of 28 straight Alcoa points at the start of the contest with his touchdown run. He scored from three yards and capped a 10-play, 82-yard drive, which used 4:27 of the second quarter.

The Cougars’ next scoring drive took far less time as Reynolds hooked up with John Thomas Lynn for an 84-yard touchdown pass with 4:40 to play in the third quarter. That made the score 42-14.

The teams finished with an identical number of first downs (17) and Alcoa only outgained Goodpasture 442-350. Alcoa averaged 10 yards per play, however, and forced the game’s only two turnovers – one interception and one fumble recovery.

Reynolds completed 12 of 23 passes for 212 yards and rushed for a team-high 118 yards on 18 carries. Thomas caught three passes for 116 yards and the touchdown.

I have watched MBA,Ensworth,Brentwood Academy,Hendersonville,Columbia,Goodpasture and Alcoa play football this year.

Goodpasture is a good 3A football team. Alcoa can beat Hendersonville and Columbia which are 5A teams.
