Dan Hamhuis became the second Nashville Predators’ defenseman in as many days to have two points and help lead his team to the semifinals at the 2009 World Championships.

Hamhuis had a goal and an assist Thursday as Canada defeated Latvia 4-2 in the quarterfinal matchup in Berne, Switzerland. That equaled his offensive output in the six games of the preliminary and qualifying rounds.

Hamhuis’ power-play goal with 5:57 to play in the second period gave the Canadians a 2-0 lead. Later, Steve Stamkos converted the rebound of a Hamhuis shot for a 3-1 advantage.

On Wednesday, Ryan Suter had a goal and an assist in the United States’ quarterfinal victory over Finland.

Another Nashville defenseman playing for Canada, Shea Weber, was the tournament’s third-leading scorer with 11 points (four goals, seven assists) following the qualifying round.
